The update has just dropped and it's pretty apparent that people are getting frustrated doing the new shrines, then coming back to their ship being sunk. This is even more of a thing for solo players.
At the same time, people are frustrated that crews can choose to leave items with the mermaid and have them protected indefinitely, just out of spite (kinda like red seaing loot I guess).
There have also been cases I've heard about of crews spawncamping other players until they agree to release their loot from a mermaid.
Imo there is an easy solution to all of these.
-
Make the statues emit a humming sound when another player/ship gets closer than one grid tile to the shrine. (Maybe increase the pitch with the number of players. Maybe just ships to preserve tuck plays idk.)
-
Allow any player to remove items from the mermaid at the top. This should be fine, because players down below will get plenty of warning to return to their ship and defend it (or pick up what they have and run).
-
Give the mermaid above the shrine a "resume shrine" option (at least I don't think that's a thing yet? but I could be wrong)
Thoughts on these ideas are appreciated, because I may not have played enough yet to see flaws in this myself.
