Just a few thoughts and suggestions for consideration. This game does tend to get very aggrivating at times due to the way somethings function within the game. For instance on a gold vault run today could not finish the run because the mob spawn rate is still way to high. got the the island fought some mobs, found the chest with the key, fought those mobs, then got ambushed by phantom mob outside the door and killed because of another thing I'll mention shortly. You guys should really consider making the spawn rate VERY long in between all the mobs spawning. I'm playing a pirate trying to dig up treasure not Arnie in terminator I shouldnt have to juggle looking at a map, digging and fighting off a ton of mobs at once. Now onto the second suggestion, take away the npc's god teir aim seriously guys even the blunderbuss guys can hit me at rediculous ranges, with the damage those shots do and the fact that they never miss a shot fighting them is an irritating grind of kill one die respawn, or kill one eat two of 5 heal things I have on me then run out of food die and respawn again. it makes the combat in game not fun just something you dread. and its not a matter of positioning either not with the sheer numbers that spawn to attack even a solo player no matter how you move your gonna get shot by that one skeleton or phantom that popped up behind you. the change is simple reduce their accuracy and make it so the mobs that do spawn scale to how many players are in the crew so one pirate isnt fighting 4 players worth of mobs. 3rdly the boarding system really needs a major change, yes the system can be cool and fun to pull off on occasion, and I'm not saying boarding shouldnt be apart of the combat it should it just needs to take on a different form. for instance Pirates of the Carribbean online and Assassins creed black flag had a boarding system which you had to damage the enemy ship so much before you could start a boarding action they didnt just shoot themselves out of a cannon or jump off the ship and one guy board the ship and drop the anchor for the lols the present system is irritating. it leads to braindead kind of thinking instead of being smart, learning how to position your ship and aim your shots in naval combat they just get close jump aboard anchor you and chuck fire or blunder bombs at one to cheese a win instead of earning one. now its a game about being a pirate and I get that. but being denied a gold vault cause the mobs spawn to quick to deal with and constantly dieing because they have god teir aim which takes half your hp or the swung and hit you despite clearly being out of range to do so. while simultaneously lossing all the loot me and my friends have gathered when a sloop of two people decides to attack our gally because they yeeted into us fire bombed and anchored us is just not a good way to say to your players "have fun and enjoy the experience"
A few game changes to make Sea of Thieves less teeth grindingly irritating
@oddball7115411 I did 3 vaults yesterday and had no issues with mobs whatsoever, perhaps just a bad day?
@drizkillz that would suggest the spawn rate changes from day to day which would still be a problem, and even so no started playing the game again two weeks ago and its a problem every time I log in esp when I'm soloing
@oddball7115411 I was alone, usually had 4 skellies and 4 phantoms spawn when digging, but didn't really have any trouble other than a pair of pistol phantoms that lasered me at the same time. It was nothing horrendous and seemed normal to me?
@oddball7115411 well they did adjust the spawn rate on the 16th in the small update.
If they have been too much since then, it's a matter of adjusting your style and being prepared.
@captain-coel I always have high teir heal item on me I rabbit hop around to keep them from being able to aim properly and I kill in one shot with whatever gun I have on me they heck more am I supposed to do? plus you guys are just adressing the spawn rate not their god teir accuracy or the fact the hit when they clearly missed (that ones mostly directed at the skeletons that smack you with their hands game seems to treat it like a sword swing)
@drizkillz so the spawn rate has a random aspect to it then cause its always a problem with me I get down with one group and 10 seconds later another pops up every day I'm on and I'm soloing it happens how about we just have like one group per island landing and thats it? not like they give you combat xp or anything
@oddball7115411 enemy accuracy has been nerfed so many times, its honestly laughable and no where near God tier.
@captain-coel you say that and yet I can count on one hand the number of times they've missed when fighting me in the last two weeks hint it doesnt go higher then three and due to spawn rates and world events I've fought a lot of mobs. Also judging by what I'm seeing the term nerfed doesnt mean a thing in this game yeah they've claimed to nerf the spawn time yet very little changes they've claimed to nerf the accuracy yet they still hit targets FAR more than they missed again 3 times I've seen one miss in TWO WEEKS of day after day hours on end gameplay nerf it, and nerf it into the ground not by .005%
@oddball7115411 I'm not sure if you just have the worst luck or are exaggerating. They miss their shots all the time and I haven't felt the spawn rate sof this past weekend to be overwhelming at all. Was easy solo and I was delivery fragile cargo.
@captain-coel I can tell you I'm not exaggerating at all and spawn rates should be a set thing not randomized based on luck if thats whats happening then it needs changing, that being said there are a few trick I have learned over the past few days that make it easier to beat them but there is still far too much bs happening to not go back and rethink a bunch of this stuff its not unreasonable to me to want to esp after sailing accross the map visist said island pick up my loot or my quest item fight very little mobs and then go instead I find myself running around most islands cause my gun ran out of shots and there's still 4 or so left one of which is a keg carrier

Depends. On Athenas those skellies act like they were dang decorated scout snipers before becoming undead.
@danbeardluff nah, they are just a shadow of once they once were. even full waves of pistol skellies are a joke.

At least the cannon skellies aren't god tier anymore
@captain-coel I wouldn’t call a wave of 5 pistol skellies a “joke” (they’d still kill you real fast), but it’s definitely more manageable. I believe there’s been at least one accuracy nerf in the past year, and the update of the 16th has made the emergent enemies far better.
@arctroopachedda for me it's all skellies just don't mix with fire.
My benchmark is the old school EoR skellies. Never will I forget them.
@oddball7115411 you shouldn't kill them all...if you kill them, more will spawn...if you let them be and run a bit so they stop following you, less of them will spawn
It may be different for you but I have noticed a significant decrease in spawn rate for the enemies.
My advice for tackling large hoards of enemies would be:
-
Fire bombs are very effective against skeletons. Use these for large groups.
-
Sword lunging Skeletons is also very effective. Learn how to do a proper sword lunge by holding 'block' first. There are tutorials on YT.
-
Know how much damage each weapon type does to your character. A Pistol skeleton does about 40% damage. So it would take 3 pistol bullet shots to kill you. This should give you enough time to heal.
-
Always be aware of what food you have and how much each food type can heal you each time you eat. There are articles and videos explaining all this.
Sea of Thieves in general has properly the easiest PvE of any game I've played. It's just about improving the efficiency in which you deal with them.
It comes with practice. Good luck.

I think the miscommunication coming from you and him is that he is a new player.
All OG players remember how the game used to be. Skeletons spawning with sniper rifles or all pistols and that would just one shot you.
Even though the game reduced that horrible overpowered nonsense many times. For us the game has been "fixed" because we are used to having to deal with something much much worse.
New players don't have anything to compare the current situation. OG players learned during the hard days of the game and that skill carries over after the nerf. The new players however, didn't have that oppurtunity so what they are having to deal with can seem overwhelming.
One of the design points for this game is replayability through mandatory increase of quest/objective completion.
Meaning that this game has its difficulty directly related to how often you die and how long it takes to kill the enemy.
"Isn't that the same with every game??" - Negative. Critically acclaimed games that are believed to be heavily skilled based are designed with the potential to play the game without taking damage or even dying. As long as you dodge correctly, block correctly, use your abilities. You can mitigate any and all damage.
In this game you are guaranteed to take damage. Take the Ashen lords. If you are close enough to sword swipe the boss and you start to run away at the exact same time the boss charges its AoE attack, you will still get hit and take least 10 to 20 points of damage.
OG players and players who have played a very long time have learned how to deal with this. However, this doesn't make it a good game mechanic.
So from an OG standpoint, nothing to worry about it.
From a new player standpoint I can understand how crazy it could feel and seem.
