Framerate drops in menus or just PC issue

  • Lately whenever I boot up Sea of Thieves I get huge FPS drops anytime I open the pause menu or customization menu (barrel, shipwright, crates etc.). I usually sit at a smooth 100+ FPS anytime I play but as soon as I open those menus for too long I get an FPS drop to about 30-6 Frames and as soon as I leave the menu it stops and it's never consistent, sometimes it's really bad and sometimes it doesn't do it at all. Would this be a PC issue even tho I haven't had this problem until a few weeks ago? Or is anyone else having an issue similar to this one? I don't understand why it's started just now and I haven't changed anything on my PC that I think would be causing JUST the menus to FPS drop, no other game I play has issues like this so it's been boggling my mind for a while now.

I've tried dropping the graphics, updating my drivers and even reinstalling SoT as a whole which I thought helped but I soon found out today that it didn't.

If anyone has any insight or ideas that would be greatly appreciated, its kind of a hinderence to play now because of the drops anytime I wanna grab planks or cannonballs.

  • I've been having this exact same issue, so I guess its unlikely that its a pc issue. I've tried everything you have and the issue is still persisting. I did find that when I turned off game bar and recording it did seem to stop, but I'm not 100% sure this actually solved the issue seeming how unpredictable the fps drops actually are. I do record clips pretty often so this isn't really the best solution at all.

  • @lookingmint09 y'know that could be the reason it started for me as well, I usually had my gamebar turned off but recently reactivated it for easier access and cause I was having issues with the Xbox app and downloads. I'll try turning it back off and see if that does anything

  • @a-breadfish Well I think I managed to solve the issue, I found that on geforce experience it was trying to force high quality graphics when I had set low quality in game. I think this was causing a conflict and was crushing my fps. As soon as I set those to cursed in geforce, I didnt get any fps drops at all. I should also mention that I still turned off game bar background recording and use geforce overlay instead.

    Hope this helps :)
