When playing as a Reaper emissary ship this is what i dislike most.

  • Let me first say yes i know i cant tell someone how to play but still we can dislike some certain play styles of some players.

So yeah recently i decided to rank up my Reapers emissary and now i can say that one is the most annoying one to rank up. And firstly i and if i play with a friend of mine we don't run off when seeing another ship coming our way, except when we are out of supplies. But having experienced now most of the game by starting doing Reapers as well I can say these types of players i dislike the most.

The ones who don't raise a Reapers emissary or mark and purely hunt Reapers. And someway Athena emissary seems to always looking for a fight too in my experience. Now i am not saying its is bad to look for a fight but atleast grow a pair and raise that reaper mark or emissary.

And before someone says im whining cuz of having to PvP as a reaper i say no. Their are just some type of players play style i just dislike when they want to search a fight purely with reapers by hiding that they want to PvP. I personally don't like players with Reaper emissary who always run off if they have to PvP so don't get me wrong.

And its specifically brig and galleon crews being cowards while i am alone on a sloop. Or with a friend who is really bad at PvP (which he knows from himself) which doesnt help that he plays on console.

  • People get so hung up on what others do out there

all that matters is are you having fun and/or are you incrementally progressing towards your goals?

If you're not having fun then adapt your session and if that doesn't improve the situation change factions and play styles

They have zero obligations other than to not cheat and to not break behavior rules other than that they can do whatever whenever so there isn't any real reason to stay focused on it just adapt to it

  • As i said

"Let me first say yes i know i cant tell someone how to play but still we can dislike some certain play styles of some players"

Implying i don't tell them what to do but we are allowed to dislike some way of play styles some people do. And being someone who likes to get max rank on Emissaries ( if its fun that is so boo at the fishing and arena one )

So with Reaper you don't have a choice then to be seen by everyone who knows how the map works. Which again is not a problem for me but i just dislike how some people who only hide their ship when they purely are after reapers for an easy chase. This btw i meant is with us winning fights vs those and losing vs those who do that.

And i think its not a sin in this game to talk about things we accept in the game but still are allowed to dislike some of the "play styles".

reaper strategies for people in your situation

quick reaper hauls. Fleets are good for this. Fleets are only in two spots and one is right next to reapers and the other isn't too far either. You can do a quick fleet and sell quickly, good money and quick way to level the flag so you aren't floating around slowly leveling reapers

flag leveling. You can shoot off to other ships and just touch their loot it'll count as stolen and level your flag quicker if you don't want to sink them or risk combat

gather a bunch of loot without an emissary and either sell it to reapers, put on the emissary there and get emissary credit for it or after getting a bunch of loot and putting on the emissary you can take out a skelly ship or hit a shipwreck and pop it to grade 2 and sell it that way

people leave flags all over the place so check outposts for shiny stuff it's often a flag you can use it for an easy sell and a good grade boost

something you never wanna do unless you are entirely looking to fight is do a slow reaper haul session

reaper is in and out, quick kills and quick sells

I'm not big on sitting still in general especially with reapers, skelly ships and megs and fleets and flameheart, anything that keeps the ship moving helps prevent tuckers and sneak attacks

  • I’ve read everything above so far and i can’t figure out what the problem is.

    Upset because how people play?
Mad that reaper don’t act like reapers?
    Athena are more blood thirsty??

But your first line of text said no. So idk what your complaining about.

  • First thing I do when logging in is go after the reaper ships.

    Kill or be killed.

Many times I'll log in to relax with plans to do merchants and oh wait there is a reaper 5 they must DIE.

Once I sink them (if I sink them) I then go play as merchants in peace.

    Has to be done

  • @paparug420 That's the spirit! As a reaper enthusiast I wish more folks like you would 'come get some', makes it way more fun!

Not a complain if its was a complain i would be one of those who demand change. Think it aint a problem to make a topic what kind of players "style"you might dislike and see more people have the same opinion ?

In short i dislike the coward way of not revealing yourself on the map and only chase reapers because its easy to go after. Do i demand they should not do that ? no ofc not but i am allowed to dislike the play style.

Have to say the well was poisoned long before you hoisted the Reaper flag, mate.

Last night, I was messing around and decided to take a trip over to a world event - skull fort - to see what was going on. Something told me to stop and weaponize my sloop. Just that little nagging voice. So, I stopped at a dormant fort and loaded the front of my boat with 5 or so kegs.

Sure enough, there was a Brig parked at the skull fort. I spied them flying a Reaper flag AND an alliance pennant.

Oh yeah? Reapers looking for an alliance? lel...

Circled, trying to decide if it was a fake alliance - something the type of people who fly Reaper flags are known to do - or if it was a legitimate alliance pennant. Doubt very bigly they were legit, but hey - weirder things have happened. Give them the chance, at least.

Nope - within 1 minute I was fired upon by the "fake alliance" ship. They were using the skull fort event and the alliance pennant to sucker in gullible players for the purpose of killing them and stealing any stuff they had. Or troll them. Likely both.

Thankfully, I had listened to that little voice. I drove straight into them and detonated the kegs - demasting their ship, wrecking the hull - blasting it into match sticks and killing the entire crew.

Instant kill and a toxic crew erased along with their ship.

They were not happy - they were completely unprepared for that and were caught flatfooted. Good. Burn that lesson in good and hard and I hope it stings.

They came looking for payback, as I expected. Results were the same, only it was 9 kegs detonated instead of 5.

The ones who don't raise a Reapers emissary or mark and purely hunt Reapers.

Yeah, how dare someone hunt the hunters. I mean, the nerve of some people, amirite?

You cannot play a faction known for using dirty or dishonorable tactics and no rules and expect your target to self-impose honorable rules on themselves.

That's like saying you'll get in the ring with a pro MMA guy but you want him to wear a blindfold and you get a ball bat while he gets tied to a chair.

  • @jack-hinson7536

Firstly well done i would laugh IF i would use cheap tactics like that and got served like that. But for me i don't trick people with alliances or standing still somewhere as an ambush. I personally hate alliances since its a cheap way to gain loot without learning anything ship combat wise. My way is always sailing around and use PvE and PvP to raise my rank, if we are reaper we don't run from a fight or use cheap tactics like you described.

But you taking this topic way out of proportions since i am not saying how everyone should play. But nothing hurts to to share some of the annoyances some people play.

Like today i tried to help my friend raising his gold hoarders emissary. We couldn't because he doesn't want to listen when doing stuff like flame heart etc you have a higher change to get attacked. And guess who attacks us, not reapers but other gold hoarders with rank 5 while we where just 2. Another time you guessed its another gold hoarder trying to ambush us on island digging treasure.

The whole frigging night we got chased by only 1 laggy reaper and since hit reg gods where not with us the chain shot did not count even though both of us saw it was a hit. Then 1 of their players was lagging like hell got us because i cant do much vs 2 players where one is teleporting around.

But yeah Reapers actually wanting to fight have the more interesting fights then the cheap ambushes with a crew yelling an language your not understand or they seem to be high on drugs.

  • @jeroenxp1

I'll fight anyone - alone or as part of a team. I am remarkably "meh" at PvP, but pretty good at ship combat. I've been a part of SoT since launch and I achieved PL as a solo - only time I have partnered up was with a crew of Germans doing the Hungering Deep update a long time ago. The meg was brutal tough back then. Other than that? Solo.

Which means by necessity you have to get fairly good just for survival's sake. Which means becoming really familiar with the tactics used by those who hunt solos and how to counter them. When and where to move, how to use force multipliers, etc.

Like last night - was doing a skull fort solo and saw this Brig coming my way. No flag. Suspicious, but I asked for help anyway. Of course, they fired on my ship and I, of course, used the island's guns to fire back. I was laying so much hate on that boat they had to fall back for repairs. When they circled around, I was waiting on the ocean floor with a pocket of fruit and a keg. Alakablam. Bye, have a wonderful time.

I don't always emerge victorious - for every boat I own, there's 5 that stomp me. And that is expected. I don't have to like it - I just have to adapt.

And I have ranked up Reapers to 25 so far... but I have yet to target a single player doing it. There's ways and then there's ways... be good and fair winds.
