These will function like a sword but deal 40 damage (three stabs to kill) but lack a blocking feature, instead you can throw your knives a short distance that drops rapidly. It will take you as long to pull out a new knife to use almost as long as it takes to reload a pistol. This can also be blocked by a sword. you carry 5 knives like any other weapon and when you run out, you run out. No stabbing without any knives. Models for a knife have existed for a little while now but only in cosmetic emotes.
Throwing Knives
1stly, those aren't knives in the emotes or on the tables; they're daggers. 2ndly, how would you work out the whole throwing your weapon away kind of thing? Or retrieving them for that matter? For example, what happens if I board an enemy vessel and accidentally throw them all into the ocean? How does that work? Am I just stuck with 1 weapon?
If you ask me, they should technically be a throwable - in other words, they would count along with other throwables, so you can't have more than a total of 5, or less, with a mixture of other throwables. Unlike other throwables, they can only be thrown in a straight line a short distance, and will have no splash damage, but will do 50% on hit, or instantly defeat an enemy if thrown at a pirate's back. The alternate function will be for aiming the dagger throw. They won't be retrievable.
Finally, I think a boarding, or throwing axe, would be better suited for this purpose. Perhaps both could be added, with the throwing knives being faster, but with less damage, while the throwing axe will do more damage, but is slower and doesn't travel as far. The latter can't be used to instantly defeat an enemy from behind either - but it can be used to deal 1/3 points of damage to a ship's wheel, capstan, or mast. It would otherwise be functionally similar to the throwing dagger.
@galactic-geek actually I like your idea of them being an item you can find and use. This could also present the problem of missed throws could give ammo to your opponent if they are fast enough to grab them from the ground.
