Tall Tale Difficulties

  • After playing A Pirates Life Tall Tales, there were quite a lot of moments that were too easy, and that is why I think the Tall Tales should have some difficulties, so here is how I think it should work.

After completing each of the five Tall Tales for the first time, you'll unlock two new difficulties. The difference between them is that the enemies would take a lot more hits. You'll get a higher reward for completing depending on if you're doing which are Original, Medium, or Hard. (The name of the difficulties are just examples)

    Original
Original is just the same difficulty as your first time doing the Tall Tale and the same amount of rewards.

    Medium
Medium adds more enemies, they'll take more damage from all weapons including the bosses. You'll earn double the amount of coins than the original one.

    Hard
Hard will add a be for those that want a challenge. It's highly recommended to have a few friends help you out if you prefer going solo, Enemies will have double the normal amount of health and this time they'll be able to take more health from your health bar per hit. As to make this even more interesting, only in certain areas enemies will be spawned out in the open for example in The Sunken Pearl there will be mermaids swimming around the black pearl, this will only trigger when the Crew that is doing the hard difficulty arrive at that area and once you're at a far distance from the Black Pearl they'll despawn so that other player won't have to deal with the harder enemies unless they wish to help.

While the bosses will have a massive amount of health and can cause more damage depending on which type of boss, the final Boss in Lords Of The Sea will be included which is everyone's favorite ship The Flying Dutchman, As I'm sure many of you would agree that The Flying Dutchman could have taken more hits since this is The Flying Dutchman we're talking about.

If you beat this difficulty, you'll earn triple and will receive a pirate title for that Tall Tale Episode

If on that certain Tall Tale episode where you've started and finished all of the difficulties, you'll be given a commendation that basically says you've done this Tall Tale episode on all difficulties. You'll also receive exclusive items, for example, The Captains Of The Damned, you'll receive the rest of the ghostly items whereas you got the instruments and a few other items such as the tankard for completing.

Now as for the final big one. If you complete all difficulties of A Pirates Life Tall Tales from 1 to 5, you'll get a big reward that is worth getting like for example maybe a Pirate curse that makes you a ghost which is the same effect that Jack Sparrow had on him.

Please share your thoughts and ideas, if you want this to become a reality. I recommend sharing this thread with others!

  • @cosmo31315 I don't want a reason to replay the tall tales again. This was the biggest complaint people had with the original 9 tall tales.

  • I think it's important we continue with the course we are slowly adjusting to.

We are getting more away from "do this thing a lot of you don't wanna do x many times for rewards" and getting into more of a "do what you wanna do and it'll lead to rewards"

I really don't have an issue with people chasing tall tales with your suggestion implemented just don't tie it to titles and cosmetics anymore. More gold? cool. lots more gold? cool

but I wanna continue heading out of that style and more into the seasons/renown style which I think is a lot of positive for the environment

I think how they did these tales really is the way to go. You could get the commendations mostly within a playthrough. No "do it this many times". Going forward I think tall tales should be more like the newest ones and less like the older ones as far as gameplay and design goes. It's more of a fun experience with friends or solo and less of a repetitive story grind in the midst of pve/pvp chaos.

  • @wolfmanbush +1. I have 4 more runs on Shores of Gold that has been sitting there for 18 months plus because it is just not enjoyable to me having to do it that many times.

  • I really like that they've moved away from getting us to repeat Tall Tales over and over and over again for rewards. If a Tall Tale is good, you'll want to replay it without incentive, it shouldn't be a requirement.

I did my last 4 Shores of Gold runs solo in a couple of days last year, after putting off 100%ing all those tales for ages.

I found turning it into a speed run challenge really helped with the monotony of it. My fastest time from voting to completion (door opening) was 57 mins (in hindsight, I should have started from landing at Tribute Peak, as there are variables before that - like wind direction). My biggest tip is to bring an empty treasure chest for the first part.

  • Increasing enemy health and numbers for an added challenge has always been, and will always be, a cheap game design choice.

Adding goals and making you complete the quest in different ways is a more interesting way to approach this—and kind of what the game already does.

Asking people to complete the original tales five times each was overkill. Even though they have variations, doing them so many times, you're bound to end up repeating yourself. Three times works better. Other players in the area already take care of things when it comes to making everything feel like a bigger challenge.

  • Only reason to repeat them is to collect the journals or complete objectives you missed

    As I play is followed:

    1. play and enjoy the story
    2. repeat and finish any objectives
    3. how fast can I complete it? (Maybe)
3.5) if any friends need help.
  • Tall Tales are developed in a way that it is playable for everyone , let us say from 4 to 99 years or something . And if i'm honest , i didn't found them that easy . In the first Tall Tale , i got lost so many times because of the Great Leveldesign that was there, but that's probably my shortcoming in orientationskills.

What i truely try to underline is that a Tall Tale needs to be an Enjoyment , truely these Tall Tales were not many people can get harassed by Tall Tale chasers... i also think that this is yet another Bridge to reach generations to play together ... How many parents played with their sons and daughters and not only enjoyed the fact that they could play together but also the fact that they enjoyed that the kids themselves were "into" the story and riddles .

Bringing more difficulties would maybe alter this atmosphere . And if it is becoming too hard for the younger ones ,then they might bail out and wouldn't it be a shame if they missed that spinechilling Music in the Final Tall Tale together with that Great Motivating Captain Jack Sparrow speech?

  • I enjoyed the original TT. I didn't mind playing them multiple times. Except that time I had a kidney stone during TT9 lol...(drink water kids)

If y'all wanna do a tale, I'm open for invites. Can't promise I'll join lol.

If you do want more of a challenge get a galleon crew together. The TT and world events are more difficult (damage sponge) for a full galleon crew.
