Add Split-Screen Support for Xbox Series X/S and PC

  • Hi Everyone,

Not sure if this has been posted recently but wanted to spotlight this. Recently Borderlands 3 added couch co-op with their new Series X/S optimisation patch and instantly thought this would be a fantastic addition to Sea of Thieves. It would be great for families who share consoles, as an example.

I assume the additional power from new consoles gives ‘computational room’ to facilitate this.

So excited for the new Pirates Life update.

    See you all out there,

    A

  • @honest-banter Borderlands is quite a bit different...there isn't so much stuff going on server-side, so especially XBox couldn't handle this...

  • @honest-banter I think that @schwammlgott raises a key point here. The servers do a lot - like the calculations of the weather and the waves etc.

That being said there is a lot that the actual console has to do.

  • It's not exactly the same but I would look into cloud streaming.

Technically it is possible to stream with the game another Game Pass Ultimate account from a phone/tablet.

  • @schwammlgott thanks for the reply. I wasn’t aware how much was calculated server side. Maybe something long-term they can over come technologically if the demand is there.

    Thanks again,

  • @sshteeve thanks for the reply and sharing your knowledge on this ☺️👍🏽

    Cheers,

  • @unfadingshimmy thanks for the reply. Yeah that is a good shout. I’ll give it a go, like you say, it’s not a perfect experience. Looking forward to the Xcloud server blades being updated to Series X architecture.

    Thanks,

  • @honest-banter It is good with a 5ghz WiFi connection and Razer Kishi controller (which is currently on sale right now).

  • @honest-banter
I've actually played quite a bit of games with streaming, it's the perfect way to play games that don't offer any couch co-op. I would even say I prefer it over split screen as with splitscreen you lose half your screen which always gives you a weird rectangle vision, the quality is lowered due to having to render 2 separate images and you constantly see what the other does.

With streaming having browser support too it even makes it easier to just have a decent screen for the second player too. Although for most games my phone was perfectly fine as well.
