I had loot off the side of my boat I was grabbing it while in a fight. I had put two powder barrels under the cabin in front of the grog barrel. The whole time I was in the fight I was constantly fixing the boat all over. I used nothing but regular cannon balls, To kill the shark upon death the kill of the shark which I had shot in the same place multiple times before suddenly It ignited my barrels and my ship blew up. The way it happened to me is completely wrong and shows programming on the game is 100% wrong also. The killing of the shark should not of ignited my powder barrels
When he had bit that same spot so many times. Then when he died up against my boat my powder barrels blew. Complete Trash.

A meg has a considerablely large hitbox, so if it's killed near your boat, it can make traversing across your ship somewhat momentarily impossible until it despawns. I have had this phenomenon happen on numerous occasions. I imagine the collision of this hitbox and your barrels are what caused them to explode - it's like watching an orange (your barrels) being squeezed between 2 opposing, and closing, stone walls (the meg and your ship) - the walls won't give, so the orange pops.
To avoid this, simply kill the meg far from your ship. I have deduced that it takes exactly 10 cannonballs for a sloop and ~13 for a brig. Not sure about the galleon though. Do, if you keep track, you can save the last shot for when the enormous shark is a at a safe distance.
@s934c37 This is not meant to be a troll comment... why were you carrying GP barrels in your hold? That’s a fairly dangerous place to carry explosives and will almost always lead to a bad time.
Carry them up in your crows nest and it decreases the amount of damage to your ship and only players can target them. Skelly ships, Megs, Fort canons, etc won’t target the crows nest.
@s934c37 you had to put gunpowder barrels under deck? You know, that was yout fault, right? Gunpowder, if you need to carry it, put it up into the crows nest...I love those people, who put it under deck...one firebomb...bye, bye ship
@s934c37 Pro tip: Place one gunpowder barrel in the hold of your sloop and one near your map table so that if one gets harmed, both explode and punch holes in every possible location of the hull. Very effective if you're fed up of people not sinking you fast enough.
@schwammlgott If you "need" to carry it? Never leave a GPB behind is my motto.

Although you are correct that it's a noob spot the deathbox of a meg shouldn't have blown it up anyway xD
@s934c37 never put explosive barrels in your hull. Thats just asking for trouble. Crows nest or on the bowsprit. And be extra vigilant. My crew loves sniping boom kegs.🔥🔥🔥
@galactic-geek 10 for a sloop meg? You must be getting some malnourished megalodons, my friend. Had a meg spawn on me and it took 26 cannons to kill (I wasted an extra 4) along with numerous EOR and pistol shots.
