More engaging and interesting naval combat.

  • Here’s some additions to naval combat I would like to see.

    1. More consequence for ramming, as it stands the ship doing the ramming generally does not take any damage, but I think both ships should take damage instead of usually just one, making the ram more useful in certain scenarios rather than. Oh ship let’s go ram them and cannon.
    2. Friendly fire with cannons. This would make boarding a bit more interest and keep players from aiming at the players when their crew age is onboard. This’ll lead to more engaging and difficult fights while boarding.
    3. A better chainshot animation. I would like to see the chainshot wrap around the mast and crush it rather than hit it and disappear.
    4. The ability to fire healing shots on canons. You could be able to fire out a piece of food to your friend boarding, and if it hit him directly it would heal him. And it would be funny to watch someone I’m fighting get it in the face by a banana that was shot out of a canon.
    5. Player ships should drop 30-70% of their supplies so the ship that won can restock and prepare for another fight.
Let me know what y’all think about these

As it stands now, if someone goes for a classic T-BONE ram, they are at a HUGE disadvantage because the other crew can easily chainshot their masts and prevent them from ramming. They also have a much easier time shooting someone with a cannonball because it is easier to see the deck of a ship when the wave goes down. Whole point being that if you go for a ram on another ship, not only are you in THEIR broadside, but you also can't cannon them. So for a full 15 seconds the other ship can lay into you with 4 people on cannons, while you just have to sit there and take it. You'll get killed, take damage, get knocked off the ship, etc. So there's no reason to add more consequences for a ram, because it's not a viable strategy in the first place.

This was a thing back in 2018 actually. You could literally kill your crewmate when firing at another ship, and the community HATED IT. That's why Rare changed it to what it is now, where your crewmates don't take damage from cannonballs shot by crewmates. So I guess they COULD add it back in, but the majority of the playerbase would need to be onboard with it. As it stands right now, I don't think that there are enough people FOR this idea, so it won't be added back into the game.

A better chainshot animation. I would like to see the chainshot wrap around the mast and crush it rather than hit it and disappear.

    Good idea, I support it.

The ability to fire healing shots on canons. You could be able to fire out a piece of food to your friend boarding, and if it hit him directly it would heal him. And it would be funny to watch someone I’m fighting get it in the face by a banana that was shot out of a canon.

It would be pretty funny to watch that unfold, but I don't think people would even use the ability in the first place. It's kinda like cursed cannonballs where if you shoot it then EVERYONE, regardless of crew gets affected. I would assume that this heal potion would be just like a CC, meaning that people wouldn't use it since it would heal the opposing team as well. So while it would be a cool idea, no one would ever use it.

Player ships should drop 30-70% of their supplies so the ship that won can restock and prepare for another fight.

Agreed. This would also fix a lot of the problems that people have with a crew constantly coming back for a fight.

  • Some cool ideas, especially firing fruit to heal a team mate (would it also heal non cremate though, to make it a double edged sword?).

I do know for sure that both ships will take damage from ramming. Many is the time I've patched up after a collision.

  • @luciansanchez82 yeah if u accidentally hit an enemy it would heal them and I’d imagine it could do splash heal. But if it hits you directly then it’d do the most healing, kinda behaving like a blunderbomb.

  • @kaijoi I completely forgot about friendly fire back then and that cannons exist lol

If I remember correctly, that was just a bug. It was only a direct hit that would kill, any splash damage was non-existent. Otherwise I don't remember a time where players were taking cannon-splash damage.

  • @nabberwar

It very well might of been a bug. All I remember is that you would take damage from your friend's cannonballs.

  • HAHA FUNI LEN WOULD LIKE U TO RAP UR BADONKA DONK OF A CHAINSHOT AROUND HER AND CRUSH HER.

  • the ship in the game is a consumable item. The player has five slots for a wide variety of food, this is quite enough.
And the animation of the chain shot is what the player thinks about the least during the battle, or rather he doesn't think about it at all

  • I know for sure my ship takes damage when ramming as I have always patched one hole after doing so. friendly fire would be nice but if people hated it in the past, im sure most still will hate it.

Usually when im on the wrong end of a chainshot, I dont think I would care about the animation and would still be upset with it hitting me, pretty animation or not lol. A healing banana would be funny, but for it to not be an AOE potion thingy that would heal the enemy, you would have to be accurate, so people still would barely use it cuz its AOE or just impossible to make it hit the intended target.

Players dropping supplies would be nice or atleast have them act like the random shipwrecks and linger for a while under the surface so I can go hunt for the supplies myself.

uuuh...Idk about you, but when I ram my ship, it always takes damage.

haha, what? Why? If that were the case, let it heal anyone instead of crewmate.

Player ships should drop 30-70% of their supplies so the ship that won can restock and prepare for another fight.

Just allow random barrels to spawn up, maybe 3-4 when a player ship sinks. But make sure it isn't anything good. few food items, cannon balls and planks. Nothing from the actual ship.

  • Friendly players are knocked back by your cannons, which is potentially more dangerous than it doing damage.

would also solve the need to spawn kill to get supplies which is very annoying

  • @itaiz1 yeah it’s a pain for boten the camper and the one being camped.
