I've Always Liked The Idea Of Cosmetics You Have to Find In The World - Here's How I Think It Could Work

  • So Mike Chapman once discussed the ability for Pirate Legends to go on voyages that lead them to ancient chests that contain legendary cosmetics. I was disappointed that this idea of finding cosmetics in the world never happened. But I have an idea for something that works for Legends and non-Legends alike:

Regional Cosmetic Sets - Find By Exploring

There could be 3 full cosmetic sets: Captain of the Shores O' Plenty Set, Captain of The Wilds Set, and Captain of The Ancient Isles set

How do you acquire them? Here are the bullet points:

    • No commendations, no reputation, no gold, no shopkeeper... pure exploration!

    • On any given island, it is possible to find a unique kind of collector's chest that is golden and bejeweled - you know this chest contains something rare

    • Inside the chest, there is a decent chance of finding a cosmetic - the art asset could just be a folded up jacket with a hat laid upon it. When interacted with, it behaves like a gold or doubloon pouch and adds a random cosmetic to every crew member's inventory

    • Here's the fun part - the cosmetics you get out of the chest are based on which region of the map you're in. While in The Wilds, you can find The Wilds set, In the Ancient Isles you find the Ancient Isles set... etc...

    • It is not possible to get a piece you already have. The cosmetic that gets added to your inventory may be different for each crew mate and will be given based on what you don't already own from the sets. If you own all pieces and a crew mate does not, you are simply given some gold while the crew mate gets another cosmetic piece.

Say what you will about RNG mechanics, but they are fun with the right balance. At least this is not an Ashen Tomes situation where you get the same tomes over and over. The only Rng is whether you find the chest and whether it contains a cosmetic. Balance!

I really hope Rare implement some kind of mechanic like this one day.

  • I like it.

add multiple colors so instead of gold for repeats you can get another color of that item. 3-4 colors per set

also have different styles (that everyone can find) of the same set for lady pirates, androgynous pirates, and pirates that just don't want to participate in the common leanings of current cosmetics

Would be a great tool to keep vets motivated

  • @chronodusk I want this into the game! I love the idea!
This idea would be amazing and it encourages people to explore islands again!
I've always wanted a similar feature into the game. It could be chests or perhaps a wandering vendor that also changes locations? So many possibilities.

  • I have felt the same way but my idea was all world events would have a chance of dropping a cosmetic ship part and maybe a very rare chance of dropping a ultra rare cosmetic not a whole set but a chance at 1 very rare ship cosmetic .

  • Seems reasonable and interesting to me, I am all for it as an option.

If they added rare and random cosmetics they could open up a marketplace to trade and sell/buy them for doubloons from each other

The items wouldn't be commendation related but random and there are no performance benefits so there isn't an issue with people trading them buying/selling with a currency that currently needs some love and use

  • As long it’s random chance. Instead there be guides on how to find those “secret” chests. With certain items

  • @burnbacon

Yes! The chests would be randomly spawning in the nooks and crannies of islands. In fact, I would say that these chests never spawn anywhere obvious like the shore line.
