Fort of Fortune is nice but...

  • I really like that they added Fort of Fortune, don't get me wrong, but honestly there are quite a few problems I see with it...

Patch-work: Instead of creating a new unique boss or bosses for the fort, they just crammed everything in. It feels very lazy and uninspired. Makes me feel like I'm playing Garry's Mod where they just took a bunch of random assets and put them together. I don't really care about it spawning on random islands, but they could have at least tried to make some new mobs for this "prestigious" fort with some juicy lore behind it.

Idea: They could have add a fancy fort that spawns on the shores of gold, and you have to get the shroudbreaker to go there.

Kills FoTD: FoTD is actually a really nice fort, with getting the lights and using them on the mobs, everything FoTD is - is what FoF should be. Though, for awhile now FoTD loot has been kind of sad, so it's never really been worth the effort of doing. On top of that it draws in other players, all that work for some chump change.

Now, there's this great new world event up and the loot is much better than FoTD... So what's the point of ever doing FoTD? Not like anyone really did it anyways.

FoTD needs to be updated, when it comes to loot. There needs to be a reason to actually do FoTD and make it worth the effort of trying to get the white light. FoTD should be more prestigious than FoF.

Easy "Legendary Thief" title: Now that FoF is out all the Pace22 wannabes are server hopping because now is their chance to finally get that juicy title. Except, the title has lost its value because now it's so easy to get. Some noobs will just go do FoF, and let's be real... Majority of players we find sailing are noobs because Rare has been catering to them for so long. Then these low-skilled tuckers will get an easy Athenas steal.

Honestly in this case, we just need a harder to get title to separate the actual skilled players from the riffraff. I'm going to start wearing "Raging Hot Goods" instead because it's a rarer title than "Legendary Thief"... Too bad, because Legendary Thief is the only title I actually think sounds good.

Fort of Fortune - a great idea, I like having a new challenge, the way the fort spawns into the server is really cool... But that's really the only cool and "new" thing about it.

  • Legendary thief never had a standard thanks to alliance servers

    It's never mattered

    Touche lol

  • I became a legendary Thief after a very juicy FotD steal.
Does this mean I am also "a filthy noob"? Where do we cut the line?
Or do we have to cut it at all?

This is exactly what has poisoned games.
You all think you are queens & kings and that you are somewhat special for having something.
When nobody even knows your real face or name or whatever.

Get down to earth right now - its disgusting.
    Play to have fun.
    Not to compensate!

  • As long as people hop Servers and cheese the randomness and grind the worldevents they wont be contested long, no matter what you do to them.

Rare could have done a Sandbox, but allows players to play it like a themenpark.
    FoF will be orphaned soon.
Like most worldevents are already orphaned mostly.

Also because they are severely repetitive.
I did not played the FoF for one reason and I do not think I will.

Too many waves... to many bosses... too much time investment.
I really am sick and tired of this oviously stretched out effort=fun ratio.
Had an idea to fix that, of course mostly ignored as usual. ;)

  • @odyssee-mit-tee this is exactly what happened to fortnite. Just add an insane amount of sweats and cringy 10 year olds

Yeah it's already orphaned honestly. The noobs leave after they get sunk by a meteor, and the vets are either not playing SoT or they're PvErs who don't want to deal with tuckers/server hoppers.

  • @raengo And with this view from people is why I gained 4 FoF for just myself and sometimes one other alliance ship. PvPers dont like waiting the time so they end up getting nothing they want either since they need to work on it themselves to get it done as soon as they want.

  • @odyssee-mit-tee

I agree with you on it not being fun at all and stretched out.

A quick look at your post though, you were complaining about "loot stealers" in a pirate game. Tuckers are usually bad and easily counterable. Plus it's a valid playstyle. Need a tip? Look for mermaids around the island, make sure to occasionally check tuck spots on your ship, FoF the best places to tuck are in towers so if you see a merm check towers. Blow up the kegs once you open the fort. Bam easy tuck counter.

Though, I can agree that since FoTD and FoF are broadcasted - it makes it too easy for server hoppers. I don't think they should change the skull cloud though... On FoF they should just make it, I don't want to say easier but easier. They should add some new mobs or something and make a unique way of doing the fort - but not make it too time consuming. Why? Because of the fact that it gets attention from everyone. 8/10 times you'll end up PvPing someone, so you shouldn't have to worry about spending 2 hours on a fort and another 2 PvPing. PvP for these big forts should be the main challenge, but the PvE shouldn't be boring either (I already find PvE obnoxiously easy - but like you said they're just putting too many waves making it time consuming.)

FoTD in this regard is fine as is, but yeah no one finds FoF worth doing because of the hassle.

Idk I go and tuck everytime the fort spawns on my server. Last time some guy was soloing it, sank to the storm during the final boss wave, and never came back. So my bf and I finished it lol. I would never choose to do it without at least a brig crew though. Too time consuming duoing, plus added time of PvP.

I see too many "pvpers" sink people doing forts then never do the fort themself - actual cringe.

  • @raengo hey fair game is fair game, if you want to know I solo'd two of my FoF. A foolish choice but man was it a load of loot gained for just one man. Time consuming of course but I like doing the new stuff solo.

Surprised you didn't get any server hoppers on you, but ey nice loot gains lol.

  • @raengo call me lucky because a fool is still a fool even when he's rich but hey now he's rich xD

    .

    Ah~ I did? Really? =_=
Tbh I do not even wanna scroll back.
This topic can end up in some kind of dusty corner for all I care.
But I expect people took something out of context.

By no means I want the
generic, uncreative PvPers who all think they are Pace/Summit wannabe's
to disappear from the game! They are unironically part of what gives the game replayability.

What I criticize are the many ways Rare is wiping their "cracks" and give them one opportunity after the next to make it ooooooooooooh soooo easy for these people to find new targets.
You do not need me to say it you already know - as other people already mentioned:

    • Thanks to serverhopping, the particular worldevent in question is sooner or later singled out and approached.

And because of this, they are a chore for those who hope to make them in peace.
It should not be that those too lazy to do PvE can always find people who actually put work into the game and produce the loot so easily!

I always look for Mermaids, or rowboats.
I know about all these "go pro" tuccspots.
Nobody sneaks up on me at a fort, nobody!
Only once people managed to do so because I was very tired and
had an idiot in my crew who sabotaged me one could say!

But today? None would sneak up on me.

Not that we will ever find out since I will not even approach the FoF.
The sheer thought to be able to do them for around +20 minutes without PvP and have wannabe's approach me and drag the affair out even further, nah thanks man.

" High risk high reward. " - Rare dev

    Sorry - still a concentration disorder. =)
What others people can, I cannot do so long anymore.
Yeah sorry for being a cripple. ( Not really, this is not whining. Just fact mentioning. )

But even if I would still be as unaffected as I once was.
I wouldn't want to invest the time and have people think they could do something which not even Pace-level people could pull off without me noticing their presence.

But the very thought to invest the time just to

    • find a FoF after several serverhops ( around 2 to 10 minutes )
    • fill the ship up, make everything ready ( around 5 to 20 minutes )
    • make the godflame'd waves ( 20 more minutes or so )
and then have some videogame communist sneak up on me and demand wealth redistribution, naaaaaaaaaah man.

This is not adventurer mode currently.
    It is communist mode.
    Bah, p'ui, yuck.

Such a pity. The events look so cool.
But they are too much designed towards PvPers and too less towards PvEers.
And ultimately I am a PvEer.

    The arena is for PvPers.
Adventure mode should if all only reward PvP that aims around open battle, since events should only take about 10 minutes at best - which make people approach them quicker and more often in general.
Since they are most easily collected.

And I recognize "timesink" when I see it.
Have stopped playing WoW because of this shi...p.
In all of WoW's existence I played it for only around 2,5 full years probably.
Since there is just too much timesink in the game.

SoThugs is approaching a similar direction.
    Anyone remembering fun?
When people played games and did not worked them?
    Good times man, good times.

  • The New FoF is too long and time consuming the loot payout is decent but not enough to attract players who have max levels to do it, all it attracts are low to mid level players, sweaty server hoppers and streamers trying to get content for a steal and this is the new norm in the game I think it is a great add on but it is very unbalance for the pve side of the game play but hey the game itself has always been unbalance since it came it so nothing new here

  • I wear the raging fire starter title (i think from dark relic times) but you sir should wear this title too cos this post is fireee. Haha, I agree they need to balance the game out better and fix the horrible bugs which still linger.

  • I think fort of fortune is nice. I don't mind recycled content like they did with the bosses, although new unique new bosses would have been cooler, i understand it. We're still in a pandemic and rare does their very best. Since covid their updates have been top-notch compared to other games.
    However.

A month later after the update i think the hype died. We've been hopping for hours trying to find someone doing the fort so we could do a stealthy play and steal it from under their noses, with no success. And this is what i think should have been added.

Flame heart? Has rewards. 2 sails
    Ashen winds? 4 tattoo's and a sail.
Fort of fortune has a commendation that doesn't even give you a title, even if the commendation sounds epic.

You gotta give people a reason to do the fort of fortunes. Yes the good loot thats better than 2 average athena voyages and gives you grade 5 in a fort that can be knocked down in 30 minutes is very good. But people want rewards. First few weeks after release the fort of fortune gave good pvp but that has died down.
