Hit Registration - Where are the fixes?

  • I've been fairly vocal over this for some time now but seriously bored of constantly seeing this down as a 'known issue' yet we haven't had a 'fix' since September 2020 and it's currently in the worse state it's ever been in.

We get bombarded with content yet you never make attempts at fixing detrimental bugs that have existed in the game for years, especially with regards to PvP. Here is a list of bugs I have seen first hand and have reported multiple times to support yet no fix:

    • Weapon hit registration (issue with every weapon in the game inc. sword for a long as I remember. Shots will often just not register despite a hit marker and conversely you can completely miss someone, get no hit marker and the shot will register. Sword dashes suffer as well, they will often provide stun to you and no damage despite a clear hit to a player and the accompanying audio cue)

    • Cannon hit registration (become far more prevalent in recent times with cannons not registering in a variety of situations. Chain-shots can hit masts and not register, cursed cannonballs can hit and not register, and the most common one for me is cannons directly hitting a player in my crew or the opposing crew and providing 0 damage. Backtracking also occurs in all these scenarios whereby they miss but still register on masts, hull players etc.

    • Environmental hit registration (less common than the previous 2 however still happens frequently. Ranges from shark bites not registering on players to skeleton attacks not registering. Experienced this from multiple different PvE encounters)

    • Animation issues (mainly to do with the sword. Sword dashes can sometimes be cancelled via taking minimal damage yet still do the animation and stun but providing no damage. Yourself and other players can be blocking however the sword remains in the neutral stance making it unclear as to whether the block is working)

    • Broken mast bug (one that has seriously annoyed me in recent times whereby the mast gets broken however upon catching it before it falls, will be unable to be repaired and consistently fall until you let it fall completely and re-raise it. This bug essentially is a death sentence on sloop as you have no other means of escaping and the delay of letting it fully fall after catching it results in a sink against a competent crew. If you are quick and aware enough to catch a mast right after it is broken you are actually punished because the game will not let you repair it until you let it fully drop)

There are so many more bug and problems in the game however these are the ones I encounter on a daily basis and most of these (especially hit detection) have been in the game for years and have received little to no fixes. We had a few updates of 'fixes' to hit registration last year yet it continues to get worse and worse. Why list it as a 'known issue' yet provide no sort of evidence you're actually putting any effort towards fixing it? Problems such as these would not go a day without getting worked on in any other well known title so why have we received so little in years? Tired of hearing 'it's a complex issue' when it's been literal years where it's only gotten worse yet you have enough time to ship content update after update, fixing meaningless clipping bugs with no perceived effort towards these serious issues.

I've been at the point for a long time where I rely solely on the gameplay itself for my enjoyment in this game as after years of PvP the loot simply doesn't matter anymore. I just want a PvP experience where I can hit someone and know for sure it registered and get rewarded for once for playing well rather than having to pray to the RNG gods that my shot actually registered. The games in a fantastic place for content, slow it down and give us some meaningful QOL improvements via fixing these detrimental issues. I would quite happily forgo 3 months of content for an even semi-working hit registration fix as that's all I really care about at this point. I know the PvP community is very small compared to the general playerbase but I have witnessed so many players I've known just stop playing because the PvP isn't a rewarding experience because it's a lottery most the time and they have no hope of a fix.

I don't know how much longer I can personally go without a fix to hit registration, love this game but the lack of fixes toward this issue is ridiculous.

  • It's probably not going to be fixed

    Arrr !

The broken mast bug to me is known to fix if you let go of the mast, let it drop a bit and to catch it up again.
It bugs because the sail is down while the mast is all the way up. You have to raise the sail first. Which is pressing the opposite button as a manual raise if it isn't broken. (W to raise or forward on the analog stick, while its broken u press S or backwards on the analog stick), which can also be confusing.

I hope this may help on your adventures, arrr !

  • I just want to point out, while I do agree they are a serious problem, im sure they either are trying to fix all or most of these or have tried and its much deeper of an issue than it may seem. Like hit reg they have been trying for so long now its obviously being held up by some sort od limitations.

Personally I would be happy if they fixed the mast bug and (I'm not sure on how broken the sword is) the sword combat.
