Open Crew sloop but nobody joining?

  • On repeated encounter, I've had some Open Crew sloop runs that went down rather weirdly...

Just about every time I either queue for - or open up after starting to host one - I almost instantly get a duo partner.

But in uncommon occasions, there's nobody joining. Either directly from the start, or after the last partner left. Sometimes for even up to 2 hours, nobody joins.

As a host, there's completely no way to tell if there's some error preventing people from joining you. And it is something that I would wish to be fixed, or at least been given some transparency/assistance on, to be able to know why nobody joins an open crew sloop that's been open for 2+ hours while under normal circumstances, they're filled near instantaneously.

I've had it happen before where nobody joined so there may be a bug occasionally or maybe there isn't a lot of people trying to join in your algorithmic region

all you can really do on your end is close your crew about 30 seconds then open it again every now and again that seems to help sometimes

  • @kapitein-kater Sloop matchmaking has been inconsistent for many months. For some reason, the servers try to fill new crews instead of filling existing crews that have an open spot.

Here is what I have tried to improve connectivity on my end:

    • Port forwarded for Xbox Live and Steam servers
    • Reinitialized IPv6/Teredo through Game Settings in Windows
    • Disabled IPv6 through command shell
    • Toggled open/closed crew in game client settings

Nothing I have tried has resolved the issue with filling existing spots when one becomes available. There clearly is a networking and/or matchmaking problem with Azure servers that seem to persist more on sloop crews over other sized crews.

A bug report was submitted about matchmaking to Rare about a month ago and they responded that the issues have been forwarded to the development team.

    Here was my report:

*Experiencing multiple issues with open crew matchmaking:

    • Extended "Sailing the Seas" when queuing with cross-platform players. Queue times are significantly longer when queuing with players using different clients.

    • Crews failing to fills once a spot becomes open on the crew. I have reset IPv6/Teredo to rule out XBox server connectivity. Matchmaking is filling new crews instead of filling already existing crews.

    • Very rarely the Set Sail queue screen will display a crew mate when setting sail, but when the instance is loaded, a completely different user has logged into the server than who was originally displayed. There was no time for original user to DC and fill with another user.

    • Set sail screen will show users in queue, via the green fill bar but no user name fills.

    • Matchmaking fills the most immediate queue regardless of region and results in high ping servers during off-peak hours. (It's really getting old playing on 150+ ping servers). Please prioritize region filling over spot filling!!!*

  • @wolfmanbush closing and re-opening the Crew matchmaking has never worked for me though :(. Only fully restarting a new crew makes other people able to join me.

  • @kapitein-kater

People are learning not to play open crew sloop?

  • @pithyrumble alt text

  • Why not just sail in a brig then? if you want an extra person, a brig should be easy enough with 2 people if it is just glitching on sloops and a 3rd person wouldnt hurt. I have sailed brigs by myself and they are no where near as difficult solo on a galleon so it couldnt hurt anything to try?

If it fills up quick then you always got a crew unless you really hate that 3rd person joining.
