In outposts you should not be able to get killed. People should be able to get on your ship and take loot and kill you but once you get of your ship onto a outpost you should not be killed. I've been going to a outpost to do the ashen chest/key voyage and the guy there is just waiting for me to get there.
Outposts and being killed
@trfiredragon04 that's called ambushing. Or in other words; people having caught up to what you're doing and making use of your lack of perception/unpredictability. It's an equally valid strategy.

Using your suggestion, the guy waiting there is now invincible because he's off his ship and on the outpost. You've made the situation worse.
@trfiredragon04 what do you do if a guy is waiting for you to do your voyage so he can kill you and steal it
Kill him and cash in or
Do something else in the meantime
@trfiredragon04 Not much to add to what's been said on the idea itself, but maybe a useful point about ashen chest/key voyages: I've found that if you only vote for them when you're already at an outpost, then it'll give you a dig location on that outpost. So you can avoid being sent to the unknown, and only put them down when you're at the outpost and know what the situation is.
I have been playing this game for a while now and never posted, so good to meet everyone here. I think it would be kind of a neat idea if maybe one or two outposts would fire at vessels if they fired their cannons within its territorial zone. Ports back in the day would fire upon hostile vessels if they were in their territorial waters, so why not have one or two do the same here. You could still go and attack a person on land, but it would be a semi-safe harbor for someone to try and sell their loot and not have to worry about their own vessel getting shot at while being there. It also could make chases a little more interesting if the fighting or chase came too close to the defended outpost.

That would become horrible. A galleon sails up to you and starts to fire to you, able to tank the island fire. You can't fire back unless you also eat the island fire...
I agree on a level that it is annoying to be attacked at an outpost. But only to the extent of newly spawning, but then ur just ready to go server hop, or just start over at a new island. its unfair to outlaw attacking someone at an island, because, what if u had treasure, or at least they thought you did? u can't get mad at strategists doing there thing.
@th3great-(RESTRICTED WORD) I like the idea of fortified ports. But when I dream of what might be, I like to imagine it as only semi-safe, up to nigh-impregnable; a next-level target for ambitious crews. Running voyages to sack ports? Steal a naval payroll? Hijack a SHIP!? Hoo! But I think it begs the question: If forts and island cannons at sea are being fired by skeletons, who'd be firing the cannons at the ports?

I disagree.
This is a YOU problem not an US problem. Do the proper checks, look for mermaids, use your spyglass and you will never get caught short again.
