Port Royale

  • I'd like to SoT add some kind of a 'central hub.' It doesn't need to be an immense fortress city or anything, but just a kind of pirate-y, merchant-y nexus for game activities (activities, one would hope, that would be exclusive to this larger town). Cool as the outposts are, they really don't capture that the spirit of Caribbean port cities of the late 16th and early 17th Centuries, with their Spanish forts, cramped and crowded harbors, and rowdy, sweltering nights. I feel like this kind of town is an essential pirate element that is simply missing from the game.

Yes, I know that the 'Sea of Thieves' itself is obscured and cut off from the rest of the world by the Shroud. But there's nothing to say that some kind of larger town couldn't be absorbed into the mists at some point moving forward.

  • Aye I would love this! At the very least, if a city can't happen in the Sea of Thieves, let us go back to La Isla Mosquito or the Lower Bay.

  • Ive made a post about it long time ago how it should be implemented in the game, if youll add it to adventure it will ruin adventure in many ways:
1 Players who wants to spoil your exploration will do just that, and passive mode a is a BAD idea. Players will use it to run away from battle and find ways to still troll each other like stealing supplies and messing around.
2 Adventure mode is be more about the islands and the voyages, and of course PvP.
As for right now there can be only 5 ships at a server and its already sometimes hard to find ships so i dont think we should give players more reasons not to sail around.

My solution is a big outpost that would be reachable from the main menu like the arena lobby.
A big island filled with activities with random crews, you can get in by yourself and find random people or with friends.
With an emote or something you can team up with other players or stick with your own.
Found a players that you like? awesome youll be able to sail from there to adventure mode and it will take you to the loading screen and in this outpost you can find activities that fits a pirate themed world like gambling dueling fun things and even your own hideout and a decoration shop to buy furnitures.
Your own hideout sounds like a way better solution to gold sink then a lazy over priced set (ahem Dark Adventurer)
Some of your commendation will be represented there as a trophy or even a head trophy and a vault room to show your gold.
I thnk that this is the closets thing to an end game goal in a ongoing game, we dont want an end but we want something that is cozy, that is how an end game should be in Sea of Thieves.

  • i like the idea. maybe change sea dogs tavern to de something like this. people would ask that the area turns into a PvE area but this would be abused. reapers runners would flee there and hide.

A seperate mode that you just load into the island no ships you have around the port drinking and playing pirate era tavern games. sounds good but would prefer the bugs in adventure to be elliminated first

It's either got to be one or the other: a glorified lobby, or a place that is completely nested within the current game world (and thus you aren't safe there, and are subject to attacks/sinkings/heists, etc.).

I'm not sure which I'd prefer. The lobby seems kind of interesting, but I think it would need to be more substantial than just a meeting place, or most players wouldn't use it (so, some gameplay would still need to happen there). Having the port in the actual game world removes its status as a safe haven (though you could always add [stupid] NPC guards that could offer a degree of protection [though would be easily killable by skilled or organized players]).

Honestly, I think it would be kind of cool to have it in the shroud, but protected by a few NPC brigs and some NPCs on shore. Players could kill the brigs and "take over" the town (perhaps briefly), but could also visit under a flag of truce and engage with NPCs... much like real pirates. To be frank, I've always thought that the Merchant's Alliance should actually have NPC ships sailing the seas that could be attacked (perhaps even sailing in escort with a few defending ships), and 'Port Royale' could be their origin/destination point as they traverse the map.

  • @herlucideyes This suggestion is actually really cool, a place were you can hang out....play games, sword duells or any other things.

  • I love the idea of a shared space. Some toxicity might be negated by forcing people to leave their weapons aboard.

Weapons and Throwables could become inactive and fists, with low strength, could be the only available weapon in reference to drunken brawls.

I see no reason why the port couldn't defend itself either if ships in harbour are attacked. If pirates attack a ship/ships in harbour they risk a massive barrage of well aimed shots from the island (say 6 to 8 cannon) –fired by NPCs or players who've chosen to uphold some sort of law.

Crews would leave their boats in the harbour and after enjoying the fun of the town, return back to their ship in their harbour as one crew or (with the right emote) as a member of another crew, in a different harbour on another server. I love the idea of one or more larger harbours full of ships but recognise there may be technical reasons why this isn't possible.

Port Royale with law and order and Tortuga with less! Now I'm thinking there maybe we should let the Grand Maritime Union through the shroud (or some other lawful company). They could be players who play and are rewarded for playing to uphold the law in some way. I bet they'd love manning the cannons of Port Royale and defending ships in harbour.

  • This would be so cool + areas for card games and stuff like pirate dice. Would be amazing
