Id rather play the game and not miss out. Surely there should be a way to earn these cosmetics too? So, why not incorporate it in P pass?
Forget twitch.
Be more pirate! Not, be more spectator watching a pirate!
I think you're missing the point. The whole reason for the Twitch drops is to grow the community, increase the interactions across the community, creating some exposure and popularity for the game and get a little reward for being part of that.
Twitch is a popular media platform, just like YouTube it is a way for brands to get their content some exposure. It is in SoT best interests to be involved in that medium. It's essentially free advertising, other people are advertising your product for you and interacting with the fans for you.
When streams are popular on Twitch it makes them more discoverable to other Twitch users, which might in turn bring in new players to the game who saw a stream on Twitch and want to play the game which benefits SoT.
I know this already.
So shouldnt they keep the items totally seperate?
Instead they release frozen horizon ship set on emporium but put the clothing set on twitch drops.
So you kinda have to watch twitch if u want the complete set.
Why not have twitch only exclusive items that dont cross over so those who dont wanna be involved arent missing out?
Perhaps they do usually. But the recent set they did there kinda seems a bit manipilative. Heres your xmas set, want the rest? Hop on twitch.
The reason they make the packs crossover between the game and Twitch Drops is because they are using a very simple but effective marketing tactic.
The game has a significant player base, ~15 million from the last update I think. If those exisiting players get half of a really cool set and the other half is only available on Twitch, then that is a large base of interested parties and it is the bait to hook you in and get you to watch the Twitch stream, which in turn increases the popularity of SoT on Twitch which may increase the chance that new people will discover the streams on Twitch and turn into new players of the game.
Now, if you made those same items only available for those that want to watch Twitch the number of people watching the streams would be significantly lower, which results in less views, the streams being lower down on Twitch's popularity algorithms thus having a lower marketing impact and a much lower chance of bringing in new players as the streams are less discoverable due to lower views.
It's all a numbers game and simple, yet effective marketing tactics. If you don't want to be involved then "stick it to the man" and don't take part in the streams. If you want to complete your sets then you'll have to give in to the marketing tactics and watch the stream (or as you choose to leave your phone idle on stream for 20 mins).
Either way, they wont bring these items in as part of a plunder pass because it would not have the desired effect from a marketing/advertising perspective for the Twitch campaigns. They will always be separate as they both have different targets.
