Twitch drops Bypass with plunder pass.

  • Maybe im oldschool in that im in the firm belief of video games are to be played not watched... Unless you are on the fence of buying it of course.

    I LOATHE twitch drops.
I like the cosmetics but hate how i gotta sit in a twitch chatroom and watch some streamer vape away talking nonsense.

My method of getting twitch droos is to simply open it up, leave my phone for 30 mins.

What if i could just get it by being a plunder pass member?

Why should I miss out on content because I dont wanna watch some kid half my age vaping away in his LED lit bedroom? Not hating on streamers btw but thats basically what you are forced to do.

Surely popular streamers dont need to bribe people to watch them. Some people enjoy watching streams.

Id rather play the game and not miss out. Surely there should be a way to earn these cosmetics too? So, why not incorporate it in P pass?

    Forget twitch.
Be more pirate! Not, be more spectator watching a pirate!

  • @shadow20642 Because they have some kind of deal with twitch to get people to use twitch. There is likely also a clause granting some exclusivity to twitch for those items for a specific period of time, so that you can't also do something like give them away via the plunder pass.

  • I agree with you, but also think @D3ADST1CK is probably right.

Assuming the items can come off of exclusivity, they should be made available again at cost in the emporium (buy each piece individually) or as part of the plunder pass as a set. The issue I think is the timing; it could be months or longer until any sort of exclusivity clause no longer applies, but later is better than never.

There are a few days I missed in some streams, usually the first day since Rare is really bad about letting people know in any other forum but twitter. I would happily pay money to complete these sets.

  • all the LED lit vaping talk going on just once again makes me thankful I didn't grow up with what internet and gaming became

the cringiness of the cyber content that I would have created would haunt me for all my days and would be unbearable. Very thankful a lot of my youthful cringe goes to davy jones' locker with me

I don't have any issues with it. It's a marketing exchange of time/effort for product. It's not like the concept in general is something new it existed long before streaming and took way more effort than just clicking a link and clicking claim reward 30 minutes later

Free stuff is free stuff. Bring it on

  • @shadow20642
Or, find another streamer. I'm sure there is one out there who isn't talking nonsense 100% of the time.

Not a Partner who does drops. For some reason zoomers love mindless jabbering.

I normally click the first one with drops, mute, minimize and set an alarm on my phone for 20 minutes, then I collect and close.

    Streamers are cringe

  • Just mute and minimise and continue about your regular gaming.
If you are looking for someone to check out and maybe watch, just cycle through the various SOT partners, there are all sorts of different people.

  • Your whole post is a bunch of dumb streamer stereotypes and you calling their whole job dumb, but then you say "Not hating on streamers btw but thats basically what you are forced to do."

Sounds like you're the immature one who can't deal with the fact that drops are a creator-centered promotional thing. Either go without, or just pop open a muted twitch tab for 30 minutes. There's streamers of all types, all ages, and all skill levels in the SoT directory, surely you can find someone who's playstyle you like, or who hosts discussion of something you like. I can only think of one SoT partner who even vapes on stream, and he's a married man with a kid, and a pretty deep knowledge of the game.

But no, you just have a smoothbrain boomer take of "i hate content creators because it's NoT a ReAl JoB!".

  • My problem with Twitch drops is that the items they reward seemingly never return, if you miss a day, you're screwed. I'll probably never complete the ancestral set because of this, forgot to watch a random stream one day.

I think you're missing the point. The whole reason for the Twitch drops is to grow the community, increase the interactions across the community, creating some exposure and popularity for the game and get a little reward for being part of that.

Twitch is a popular media platform, just like YouTube it is a way for brands to get their content some exposure. It is in SoT best interests to be involved in that medium. It's essentially free advertising, other people are advertising your product for you and interacting with the fans for you.

When streams are popular on Twitch it makes them more discoverable to other Twitch users, which might in turn bring in new players to the game who saw a stream on Twitch and want to play the game which benefits SoT.

  • I just wish I hadn't missed the frozen belt and gloves... 😒

Will I ever get another chance? 🤔

Never once said it wasnt a real job or was hating on them at all. Everything you have said is incorrect.

You say im immature yet you are the one who jumps the gun and assunes stuff i never even said then proceed to refer to me as a boomer?

I suggest you think before you speak and that you remain respectful. Thank you.

    I know this already.

So shouldnt they keep the items totally seperate?

Instead they release frozen horizon ship set on emporium but put the clothing set on twitch drops.

So you kinda have to watch twitch if u want the complete set.

Why not have twitch only exclusive items that dont cross over so those who dont wanna be involved arent missing out?

Perhaps they do usually. But the recent set they did there kinda seems a bit manipilative. Heres your xmas set, want the rest? Hop on twitch.

  • @shadow20642 I do it the same way...open it on my phone, mute it and lay it down somewhere...about an hour later I realize it's still running 😅
Not a big fan either, but as been stated, free stuff is free stuff

  • Would definitely like this approach more.

    1. It's not giving more exclusive stuff away for money since everyone had a chance.

    2. Gives people a second chance to obtain cosmetics, but at a price.

    3. Twitch Drops just aren't fun. I'd much rather do stuff in game to level up and earn cosmetics than mute a twitch stream in another tab for 20 minutes.

  • I have never been a fan of twitch drops.. Watching someone streaming is not for everyone.

I would much rather just gain cosmetics playing the game (always).

I get that they want to support their partners and like to constantly help to artificially boost their viewing figures with events such as these.

But c'mon! Very few people actually "watch" the livestream.

How about a new method of gaining rewards by watching a content created video by one of the partners instead? Many of us will watch (actually watch) one of those by choice without rewards, as they are carefully planned out, edited and can be entertaining and also informative rather than someone just blabbering away for the sake of it.

  • for my taste its at all to much time limited stuff...they had some grindy time limited events that ruined the game for me , i dont like the direction sot sails

  • i just want the rize of morningstar pants lol

  • @rtl-saint They are rather nice pants

Perhaps they do usually. But the recent set they did there kinda seems a bit manipilative. Heres your xmas set, want the rest? Hop on twitch.

The reason they make the packs crossover between the game and Twitch Drops is because they are using a very simple but effective marketing tactic.

The game has a significant player base, ~15 million from the last update I think. If those exisiting players get half of a really cool set and the other half is only available on Twitch, then that is a large base of interested parties and it is the bait to hook you in and get you to watch the Twitch stream, which in turn increases the popularity of SoT on Twitch which may increase the chance that new people will discover the streams on Twitch and turn into new players of the game.

Now, if you made those same items only available for those that want to watch Twitch the number of people watching the streams would be significantly lower, which results in less views, the streams being lower down on Twitch's popularity algorithms thus having a lower marketing impact and a much lower chance of bringing in new players as the streams are less discoverable due to lower views.

It's all a numbers game and simple, yet effective marketing tactics. If you don't want to be involved then "stick it to the man" and don't take part in the streams. If you want to complete your sets then you'll have to give in to the marketing tactics and watch the stream (or as you choose to leave your phone idle on stream for 20 mins).

Either way, they wont bring these items in as part of a plunder pass because it would not have the desired effect from a marketing/advertising perspective for the Twitch campaigns. They will always be separate as they both have different targets.

  • @shadow20642

Old guys rule. I also dont get the attraction watching someone else play a video game.

However, I'm at work on a ten hour shift and things are real slow.
I usually don't even care for the drops.

It can satisfy my appetite for SoT, and gain a bit of swag as well.

Again, i understand the reasons behind it.

But this is a suggestions and feedback thread!

Im giving feedback on my thoughts of something i dont particularly like.

My suggestion is that they keep it totally seperate.

You dont need to explain away, i totally get it. But it doesnt make what they are doing any better

  • @shadow20642

How dare you have an unpopular opinion, and especially one that questions the almighty developers at the holy Rare.

    Heresy.
