Enable in game voice communication while in a Xbox party chat

  • As the title suggest, enable in game voice chat for Xbox players when they are in a party chat.

On PC wether you use Xbox party chat or discord, you can still hear and talk to other players in game. Why is this not enabled for players on Xbox?

It’s not a system limitation as the game “Project Winter” does have this feature.

So please implement this for Sea of Thieves too.

it's not a dev issue it's a Microsoft issue and you can switch to game chat from party if you didn't know

  • Bump for obvious need.

Do you not get that they are a first party developer, so asking them IS asking Microsoft.

    Thanks for playing.

i'm not going to stop playing and no its not the same rare has to talk it over with them then add it ,it's a hard thing for the devs to do

Did you not read my post? Maybe it used to be a system limitation but it clearly is not.

In the game “Project Winter” you can be in a party chat, while still hearing other players who are not a part of your party (so using in game voice communication) and you can talk too them using push to talk. All while you are in a party chat with your friends.

you still can do that with xbox party chat system now

  • @closinghare208

How? You mean setting your party chat too in-game? Because that totally is not the same as I am suggesting.

well it basically what you want so it's a thing that you have right now is very close as you are going to this idea right now

  • @closinghare208

    Not it totally is not.
Because either you are hot mic’ing or you are not.

And stop acting like it’s a system limitation. If a small studio that made Project Winter can do it, then I’m sure a big studio which is a first party developer for Microsoft can do it too.

  • Maybe take a different approach to this and instead ask for separate crew chat in-game. That would do away with the need for Party Chat at all.

Being able to mute other crews and specific players means that this should be realistically doable as the discrete audio channels exist to some extent. Push to talk could be used to speak in global voice chat.

I'm on PC but I've long said I would prefer this as it gets around several issues... it would allow Xbox players the ability to talk in game while still partied up and keeping their comms secure. It would allow PC players to join Xbox players and not be afraid of the security risks with Party Chat on Windows.

That would be a more realistic request than asking them to change something which is not in Rare's control.

  • @realstyli

Thx for the good suggestion realstyli.

Yes that would be a great option too. But just to let you know, it is not out Rare’s hands completely as other game’s apparently can do this (Project Winter for example).

But I would not mind having a separate crew and open voice come in game either.

  • @iamhunterish

I am not familiar with how Project Winter does it. I haven't played on Xbox consoles in a few years now and I don't know if the Party system has changed significantly. I remember it was never possible to be in both game chat and party chat at the same time on Xbox One (and 360 before that), at least.

Yea I always thought so too. So I’m not sure if they changed it and when they changed it.

But you could say I was pretty surprised when I booted up that game with my friends and we could hear other players talking.. and even more surprised that when we used the “push to talk” button we could even talk to them. So either it always was possible, or they changed something.

Or maybe Project Winter found a loop-hole to enable it? If they did, props to them and every game with multiplayer should implement it.

  • Why not ask microsoft?
Makes more sense to ask the developers of the stupid thing instead of asking someone who doesn't have much say in it

I've heard some games work with ingame and party chat and some dont

So i'd imagine its xbox being wonky either that or its actually a game dependant issue but that just feels unlikely as maaaaaaaaaaaaaany people have brought this up since launch and probrably even in alpha

Its an obvious need thing but if rare hasn't been able to do anything it may be a microsoft related issue

  • Or just switch between Ingame and party chat.
    Step further, use a chatpad.

If I really need to tell you that it is not the same, I wonder if you even play games.
When I switch and my buddy doesn’t he can’t hear me.
If I switch I can hear the other people, my buddy who might still be in party chat, doesn’t.
If your in combat, you don’t really have time to switch between party and game chat.

So no, stop acting like it makes no difference.

That’s allot of speculation, saying Microsoft allows some games to have that feature and some not? Would be pretty weird don’t you think?

And even if it’s a Microsoft related issue, Rare as a Microsoft studio has way more to say in the matter then I have.

Its up to you who you go to really

Im just saying you are one of the hundreds of people who has brought this up

and probrably one of thousands of people who want this to change seeing as this is not an issue on pc im able to talk to people in party and ingame im almost certain this is a microsoft related issue

if it was a rare related issue why would i be able to use party and ingame chat on pc? but not on xbox???? and im very certain rare didnt say "hm lets allow pc users to use ingame chat and party chat but not xbox users"

If that truly is the case, it would be nice of Rare to answer that question for once. If they say it’s not possible because of a Microsoft limitation (even tho other games can do it) then say so.

Then we, as the players can go ask Microsoft. But if they keep silent about it even tho it’s a commonly asked feature then it seems they apparently don’t have any interest in it.

@closinghare208 you are totally missing the point of what the OP is asking for.

Yes you have the option right now to switch between party chat and game chat and use push to talk.

What you can not do right now on Xbox (which is what the OP is asking for) is to hear other peoples game chat while you are in party chat. On PC you can do this but not on Xbox.

On Xbox if you are in party chat you cannot hear game chat.

  • @closinghare208
    You are just being ignorant.
You can’t just toss in “it’s my opinion” when we are talking about straight facts here.
That’s also not how opinions work.

Your opinion might be that you don’t find it important to give everyone the same playing field.

But that adds nothing to the original discussion.

  • I play on Xbox One, and my son plays on Steam. To communicate, we have to use party chat. My son can use push to talk to communicate with other crews. I cannot. I have tried using wired and Turtle Creek Wireless headphones.
When I play solo, I can communicate with other players in the game if they are set up for it.
I would like to see Rare set up a dedicated button for xbox push to talk, so we don't have to go change our settings every time that we want to try an talk to another crew. Maybe pushing two buttons at the same time. I'm not a programmer, so I don't know if its even possible. But it seems to be like a simple fix to me.
