Why DO Mermaid Load Times Take So Long In Fights?

  • I can understand that developers want the game to be fully loaded before exiting a loading screen so as not to break immersion. But I feel like that can be a huge detriment to players in this particular game.

It’s very frustrating that, under normal circumstances, when your ship is not in any immediate danger, load times seem to vary a good bit from a mermaid, depending on how far you’re going. But, if you are knocked from your ship during a fight with skeleton ships, krakens, megs, or other players, that load time can be painfully long, sometimes a minute or more.

Why does this happen? You’re still in the same general vicinity as your ship when you use the mermaid. The game shouldn’t be loading in a large amount of new assets or textures, and even if it is, I’d be completely okay with looking at some unloaded textures for a few seconds if it means I can save my ship and get back in the fight. It’s agonizing, that almost three years on from the game’s release, a fight can still be decided by a load screen, and I really hope that this will be addressed in an update soon. Other games have gradually worked on cutting down their load times without necessarily sacrificing game fidelity recently.

  • Depends on the machine, PC or Xbox.
I was on Xbox One X, my loading time would always be 35 seconds.
Once I got Xbox series X, it drop to 5 seconds.

Can confirm, x series nullifies this.
