GPU fans goes up to 100% speed when starting the game

  • Hello.

My GPU fans goes into 100% speed when i'm starting the game, didn't do like this before. And it jumps straight up into 80 celsius after the first 3 logos at the startup and it doesn't go down in speed.

I had to switch a HDD into a new one, after this when I installed the game again, it started to act like this.
I've cleared cache, reinstalled the gpu drivers.
I've checked hardware components if I did anything wrong, but haven't touched anything except the SATA and cables for the HDD itself.

The GPU doesn't spin the fans any faster when i'm starting other games and the heat will be around 70-75 celsius.

    Specs: GeForce GTX 970
    Intel Core I7-7700K
    16GB RAM
    4TB HDD

That means your video card is working very hard.
    You can:

    1. Reduce frame rate
    2. Reduce graphic settings to lower
    3. reduce scaling or resolution
4 get new video card ?
  • @cagiestink5 Unfortunately there is no lobby FPS cap, so your GPU is going to be rendering the max frames specified in your settings. I have suggested to rare to implement a lobby frame cap, because if you sit idle at title or lobby, your GPU will start to cook. My best advice is to avoid sitting at the title or queue screen too long or drop your FPS cap below 144Hz.

  • SoT is Pay to Win hardware edition. You need more expensive hardware.

Or play on console like intended?

  • @cagiestink5 try limiting your fps via Nvidia control panel to whichever fps you feel comfortable with(depending on your monitor), should give you a good drop in gpu temp.

  • Thanks for all the tips and tricks, i'll see what will work!

I just got shocked when it randomly decided to spin up the fans when it haven't done like this before.

The game itself is alot smoother, but I play at the lowest settings. But this was after i've updated the game when I removed my old HDD.

If sea of the thieves was intended to be played on console, why was it released on pc alongside the console release? This Pay to Win argument is honestly ridiculous. Clearly you have never played a real pay to win game 🤣

By this logic CS:GO, Rocket League, and all major esports are P2W because anyone with better hardware will have a slight advantage over someone playing on TV getting 30fps at 720-1080p or even on a lower end pc only getting 60 fps at 1080p

    Well duh...

But there have been repeated vows to not be pay to win. PC vs Xbox is never an argument. There's a reason consoles are allowed to request console servers.

    Long loading times?

    BUY an SSD!

The dpi switching? Buy a fancy mouse/controller....

This is my point. The DPI thing is dumb and I'm not sure I understand it entirely, but SoT has an "official ssd" drive. Rare is kinda sus...

  • @pithyrumble rare has an official ssd? can you share a link?
