Game Does Not Recognize I am Pressing Push to Talk

  • I got the game via Microsoft store way back. It was recently pointed out to me that my crew cannot hear me in-game (we normally communicate on Discord). I can hear them just fine and I can hear other crew. But when I press the assigned p2t button, a bubble does not appear over my name or anywhere on my screen. I tried multiple binds with no luck.

I have tried everything listed here Windows 10 Audio Chat but no luck. I have read all related solution (installing game bar, setting default input devices, resetting game, re-installing the game, unplugging input device, almost everything) but nothing worked.

Can anyone advise please. I am missing out on a lot by not being to talk in-game and to crew with random people

  • Heres a few things you could try:

First you need to work out if its a problem in game or even to do with your Microphone, i would advice

    • Testing your mic in recording software like audacity or any sound recorder, this way we will know if your microphone is working or not.

    • Press the push to talk button, if the speaking icon appears in game then sea of thieves recognizes your microphone.

    • If you microphone does not work in audacity or sound recorder then check what port on your PC you have plugged in, Pink is for microphone and green is for Headphones!

    • If you are using a headset and only have one 3.5mm jack connector you may need to buy a 3.5mm to USB, this will allow both Microphone and headphone signals to be used at the same time!

Hope some of these may help!

  • I'm having a similar issue. Most of the time when I press the key it doesnt work, but sometimes the bubble appears for a few seconds and then dissapears.
My microphone works, I have used it before. I have tried everything people say online and no luck.

Out of curiosity, did you do the latest Windows 10 update to version 20H2?

I did that last night and I had a very similar issue. After hours of chasing it, it turned out to be very simple but easily missable: Windows had turned off the option on my mic in Sound Control Panel which had it set as the Default Communication Device.

Up to that point I had tried everything - setting every Xbox app's input and output. Including setting the input and output for Sea of Thieves in Sound Settings - Advanced sound options - App volume device preferences (the game needs to be running for it to appear there).

I was getting the same thing as you; it looked initially like the game was picking up something as the bubble would appear but then go away and it wasn't really doing it when I spoke.

But the "set as default communication device" (right click on the mic in Sound Control Panel - this appears on the right side in Sound settings under "Related settings") was the solution.

After I did that, it was working as before the update.

Did you have any luck fixing this?

    Cheers

  • ISSUE RESOLVED.

    I went to: https://support.seaofthieves.com/hc/en-gb/articles/115012749647-Windows-10-Audio-Chat

    Then this step worked:

Configure the individual Microphone input for Sea of Thieves

    Boot Sea of Thieves
    Minimise Sea of Thieves
From the system tray in the bottom right corner of Windows, right click the Speaker Icon and select Open Sound Settings
Scroll down to the Advanced Sound Options and select App Volume and Device Preferences
As Sea of Thieves is open, it will show in the displayed list. From here you can specify the output and input.

    Cheers
