I got my hands on a black dog pack but i have the game on steam how can I redeem the code? do I still need to do this on my xbox account?

To get this code to work you need to have the MS Store version of the game. Once you boot into the game after redeeming this code it will be available in your chest - You can then continue to play on the Steam version of the game.
Gamepass trial might be the best way to go here?

But these are old codes and weren't designed to work with Steam... You could always reach out to support with the code to see if they can help.
