Other games with similar PvE mechanics?

  • I think tonight killed my wife on the game, despite us both really enjoying the PvE elements.

I'm not asking for PvE servers, I'm not asking for people to be banned. I'm not calling the crew that attacked us toxic, even if they were unpleasant. Im just asking if anyone knows of another game we can play with similar mechanics and polish that doesn't have the PvP.

I'm sorry you've had this experience on the seas, I would encourage you to keep sailing though because not every voyage will contain encounters such as this one - it is extremely disheartening, especially as newer less skilled pirates but there are ways to avoid encounters and with more sailing and experience you do learn to develop a sort of 6th sense about other crews intentions.

Being someone who's very partial to pirate/sailing games even before Sea of Thieves came along I have to say that sadly, there aren't any alternatives I can think of with the same polish and experience of actually sailing a ship and living the pirate life.

The game I used to play before this Pirates of the Caribbean Online, is pve and allows you to sail a ship with a crew or a friend, but that was cancelled in 2014 and now exists as a community endeavor 'The Legend of Pirates Online'. There is sailing in a few mmorpg games like Archeage and Black Desert, but they really can't compare in any way. There are also plenty of 'you are the ship' type games such as Pirates of the Burning Sea, but again, they tend to lack the polish and experience of Sea of Thieves.

Always keep a weather eye on the horizon, hand in often, don't drop anchor and be prepared to set sail at a moment's notice - even the saltiest pirates on the seas get caught out on occasion.

You might also wish to think about joining one of the many Fleets sailing the seas, they can offer experienced crews to sail alongside and a wealth of wisdom.

    I wish ye fair winds

  • I fully intend to keep playing. But it probably won't be a fun thing to do with my wife anymore.

I'm hoping to find a replacement for when we want to sail together :).

  • Unfortunately, there are no similar types of games. Which is why it's fair to say that it frustrates players that Sea of Thieves is the ONLY good game that has this "Sail the open seas" experience, but is also designed in a way that you can't play the game with an ease of mind.

I tried Atlas, turns out that it was a very bad game that wasn't worth even three Euros.

And lucky you to have your wife wanting to play the game. My girlfriend doesn't even want to try.

This has been my experience as well, which is why it's so incredibly frustrating when the hardcore PvP players just jeer "don't like it, go play something else" in response to players wanting the PvE experience.

  • I don’t think we’ll ever find a game like this, for two reasons:

    1. Rare has made such a unique experience that no one could ever possibly match it to this quality
    2. Sea of Thieves is a really good name, and I can’t think of any possible better ones
  • you two should try The Forest out

on the surface it doesn't seem to have much in common but for me it triggered a lot of the same enjoyment that I get out of this game

You two can build interesting stuff together, survive together, they have rafts and stuff you can float around in. Gather resources. You wouldn't have to deal with other players at all if you didn't want and you can save your progress so you two can work on long term survival or large scale projects together.

    I'd give that a shot
