Communication with your alliance

  • In the game, besides from achievements and events Alliances have no functional purpose. I believe the intent for them is to group up with other crews to fend off attacks. Therefor it stands to reason that there should be a way to talk to the other allied crews.

I purpose this, In every ship there is a bird cage. What if every ship had a carrier pigeon to talk a small note to another ship. A crew mate would walk up to the cage. select send message. then the pigeon would fly off. once out of render it would de-spawn. After a couple minutes it would respawn in the render of the target ship, and land on the bell at the bottom of the mast, and start coo-ing, and ringing the bell. once a crew mate checks the letter they can send the pigeon back, or equip the pigeon with a response. If they don't check the pigeon in five minutes it will fly back to its home ship.

  • Nice idea, but what happens when you are in an alliance with more than 1 ship? Does the pigeon doublicate? Or are you able to select the ship? Then the ship´s should have a unique name. And thats an other topic on this forum.

  • You can communicate with other ships in your alliance through voice chat.

I guess this has been done by design to encourage alliance ships to stay within a certain proximity of each other, thus encouraging alliances to be working on the same goal (be it a world event/quest/etc). I don't believe Rare wanted alliance ships at opposite ends of the map doing their own thing and just gold farming for each other.

  • @suy0 every galleon has a name plate i've been saying for a while players should have the ability to name their ships.

  • In-game chat.
    Quick chat.
    Party chat.
    Xbox Live text chat.
    Discord chat.

    You don't need Pigeons.

  • @galactic-geek The three in game options can't contact your alliance if there far away, and do you add your alliance members to xbox and discord? I agree that there are ways to talk in the game, however only to close proximity players. Therefor, Pigeons. Plus at the end of the day it just a fun feature.

  • @paladinofbooze it brings bad luck to sail a ship with no name

  • @paladinofbooze

Who get's to the name the ship? The captain? Great, in open crew who's the captain?
What if the captain leaves halfway through the session? Does the ship get renamed?
Is the ship name linked to your pirate and as such does it carry across to all ships you crew? What about the other crews name?
What is stopping people using rude/deformative comments as ship names?

Also again, the premise around the alliance system is that you work together on a single objective and then share/steal the spoils. It was never designed to allow crews to farm off each other at other ends of the map.

  • @paladinofbooze There's a reason you can't communicate over long distance.

It's by design. It forces you to figure out what they're doing through their actions (and vice versa). It helps create a sense of uncertainty and distrust within your alliance. This is a part of why they're fickle things...

  • @iceman-d18 Maybe random names like the shipwrecks?
