Skeleton Ships not leaving loot anymore when the despawn (dove into the seas)?

So, a few weeks ago a Skeleton galleon despawned (dove into the sea not sunk), we went there and the loot it had came up.
Now, yesterday, we were in a fight with a galleon hit it several times and it was on fire, suddenly it despawned, so jumped in the water to mark the position, yet, this time there was nothing. So the question is: a) is the loot left-over random? or b) was it removed in a recent patch?
