Question about Shadow Stormfish

  • Hi!

This is my first post here, so I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask this kind of question, sorry if it's not.

I have been fishing quite a lot lately for the commendations, but one type of fish seems to escape my fish hook all the time; I'm talking of course about the Shadow Stormfish. Now I've read many discutions about it here and on reddit, and one thing I keep on seeing is that apparently, if you have the opportunity to fish for it at the Sea Dog Tavern outside the Arena, the only Stormfish type that can pop is the Shadow Stormfish, because this place is technically not part of any sea region. Same thing supposedly apply on the uncharted island between Crook's Hollow and Crooked Masts.

I've had a couple shots at both those locations, and so far, no dice. On the uncharted island, I got the Wild Stormfish 4 times, suggesting this location is now considerated to be part of The Wilds (?) ...and at the Sea Dog Tavern, I never saw anything but Splashtails.

I am of course using leeches to lure them, always during a storm. But those posts I was refering to above are now rather old (about 1 year or more), so can anyone confirm that those locations are still viable? Or, could it be that they got "fixed" in an update at some point? Maybe I'm just missing something...

Thank you for your help, any pointers would be much appreciated.

  • As far as I'm aware it does still work at the seadog tavern. You can get twilight and shadows from there but I'm not sure about that uncharted island. Good luck to ya though

  • I would suggest what I do. Turn it into a consistent backburner

I found mine in a shipwreck.

Unless you just love fishing in the game just check any and all barrels and shipwrecks while you're doing other things. It breaks up monotony very nicely and every now and again you find either one you are looking for or a trophy rare fish that gets you a nice little gold boost.

Barrels on land won't have them but check storage crates and rowboat storage because they can

I'm a big fan of "it'll happen when it happens"

  • I agree doing barrels and shipwrecks is how I'm getting most of my fish. Also dont forget to check people's food barrels when ya board them cause they might have some good ones. We got a shadow, muddy wildsplash and a black cloud wrecker off one boat.

  • Good call about the barrels, Ill give it a go.

Haha, those must have been very sad pirates when they realized they lost all that.

  • @el-glaude Yes, it's true about fishing for them at the Sea Dog Tavern (you can get them there). I never tried near the other uncharted island, but if you see a storm over the Sea Dog Tavern, there is a chance you can get a Shadow Stormfish.

  • The last commendation i needed for all the fishes was Shadow Stormfish.
And i got them all at the sea dog tavern when the storm was there, but yea it was a long time ago so they've might have changed it.

  • @wolfmanbush Wow good job man!!

  • @reapinglegion Were they still rare to get? I mean, were they as rare as they are in any other parts of the sea, only easier to spot (because all other fish were Splashtails?)

  • I've caught 2 of them in the past week at sea dog tavern during storms, so I would say that is still the most reliable way to find them. They are rare though, so it takes patience. Keep casting!

  • Caught one at sea dogs tavern the other day

Aye, you either got a shadow stormfish or splashtails.....so as soon as i saw a splashtail i just let it go and cast in again :P
