Larger server population

  • Title speaks for itself.
Very important update needed is larger server population.. Currently there is a limit of 6! ships per server and server merging happens when there is 2 or less ships left on a server.. We need to increase the ship count to atleast 8-10 per server and server merge increased to less than 4 ships left on the server instead of 2. This would increase activity all over the map making the game more enjoyable.
At the moment (especially for AU players) you join a server and it seems dead maybe 2-3 ships, you leave the game as it isn't "active" enough for your liking only to join another game with again 2-3 ships at most..
Back when the game first came out players struggled to 1. complete a fort and 2. return the forts loot to an outpost without getting railed by players constantly swarming the event which actually made the game fun and rewarding..

Another thing to add is server prioritisation: when players join a game prioritise the medium and low populated server rather than fresh servers to keep the activity or at least create some sort of option that can prioritise it.

  • @itzbrayy 6 ships are fine...do you see the crying about getting attacked in the forums? Guess how it would be if there are more ships...you wouldn't be able to finish anything

  • @itzbrayy sagte in Larger server population:

    For who?

Not for me, just to say, i like there are ships and opportunities - no threats anymore to me, but i like them beeing scarce, because i also like the lonelyness at sea.
Too many ships would spoil me that.

  • @schwammlgott You mean the people crying because they would rather the game be all about PVE instead of PVP...
You would be more likely to complete voyages with a higher populated server compared to a dead server as you wouldn't be in the spotlight that a low pop server puts you in.
A ship is less likely to come over and bug you while your doing your gold hoarder voyage compared to a cluster battling it out in the middle of the map..
You have those who just want to sink everyone regardless and you have those who thrive on basic pvp.. If i had to choose id go the pvp cluster compared to a ship doing a voyage

  • @itzbrayy so you want more pvp action in general?

  • @itzbrayy there are enough ships for pvp...go for them, and when they all leave you will get merged to a server with new victims...so what's your problem?
I like both PvE and PvP, but I prefer first...and with too many ships, PvE becomes close to impossible to do

  • @itzbrayy

Part of the problem is they also still have to cater for 7 year old hardware in the form of the 8th gen Xbox One. Lots of number crunching going on with the sea alone for starters..

That's roughly the GPU equivalent of a GeForce GTX 750 or Radeon HD 7790, 8-core AMD CPU (@1.75 GHz), 8GB of RAM and a very slow 5400rpm mechanical drive, albeit very well optimised.

They could up the min requirements but that still wouldn't go down very well just yet..

  • I feel the most important part of your comment is "prioritize the medium and low populated server" which is very true. If they can fix server migration and matchmaking it would make servers feel way more alive, the only problem would be potential connection issues. Personally I would love more ships per server but lots of people here on the forums are constantly upset about seeing one ship as a threat for the sake of their two captains chests so the odds of more ships being added is low.

  • @l-snapper-l People forget the game is PVP intended, there is a limit of 6 but there is barely ever 6 ships on a server always like 2-3 and you barely see a ship on the server with that many as the map is so big

  • Just because more ships would be added to a server does not only equals to more PvP, it means more interactions overal.

    • More Friends to be made
    • PvP Encounters.
    • Alliances.

The world feels more busy overal

Thats why many PvPers server hop, because server are not always fully filled to the 6 ships count, and only 6 ships per server is just too few. I personaly too find it very hard to get good interactions.

These PvE players need to stop already, and find another game, SoT will never become a fully PvE only game as it is a PIRATE game with THIEVES in its name!

I do remember rare said that this is not possible due to an issue with their servers not being able to handle more ships, so untill then this propably won't happen.

  • @cpt-sockmonster exactly, I was even trying to finish some more stuff on the summer events and I COULDN'T EVEN FIND A GOD DAM SHIP TO HELP ME

seriously it is an actual joke the map is HUGE and yet like 2 maybe 3 ships... 1 could be having a tea party up near smugglers bay and the others hiding in devils roar and you join smack bang at plunder and insta leave
