How to Solo fish Stormfish

  • Well I caught my first wild stormfish solo last night, unanchored in the middle of the storm, not at some island.

After a pve game night with friends I thought it'd be good fun...fin...fun...anyway...to work on this goal.

My intention was to try with Galleon, then Brigantine, then Sloop.

My testing got cut short, unfortunately, after I got sidetracked "Whale Hunting" in a Brigantine for Reapers.

The Galleon did the job. Does anyone have experiences with solo Brig or Sloop for stormfishing?

After whale hunting I do think a Brig might work better.

Its smaller holes also dont fill the hull too fast but it's easier to bail dry and sail deeper into the storm.

I want to test it and will probably edit this OP with results.

I dont think a sloop will work.

I dont think itll have enough time between the first hole and sinking to actually complete a round of fishing.

  • I don't think it is worth trying to stay in the middle of a storm, personally. Too much effort in maintaining the position, bailing, repairing, and trying to actually fish.

I prefer to predict where the storm will go and stop at an island to fish while the storm makes it's own path. Preferably islands with some sort of overhang you can fish under to avoid the lightning. I would also take every opportunity to fish at a shipwreck while doing this as the Blackcloud Wreckers are a nightmare to hunt.

All that said, I prefer a Brigantine for all my adventures with 1-3 players.

  • Yea, i agree with @Archangel-Timmy
if you are trying to specifically hunt the stormfish just try to predict the path of the storm i like to use the boats wheel as an indicator if it spins on its own your in the storm.

But honestly when i want to solo fish i just sail for the first larger ship i see and off to be their cook.
Then just fish wherever they go.
Its not as fast but its fun.

    That's an interesting idea.

For me I specifically wanted to "achieve" this..personal goal.

Definitely isnt the best way it seems lol.

I like the other guy's idea of overhang island fishing.

I dont know about the fish at a shipwreck in a storm. Just getting into the idea of fishing for first time.

you may already have something like this but here is the fishing chart i like to use if i cant remember the specific bait or location for a fish. Its not my chart just the one i refer to.

  • If youre trying to fish in the storm use a sloop. You can time how long each boat takes to sink. Sloop takes the longest, and has less potential for holes. The only benefit from the gally in this aspect is maybe you wont get a hole bottom deck. If you wanna be super safe take a row boat. Not gonna take a hole or have to bucket. No big sail for everyone to see while you fish some of the most expensive fish in the game. Also if you dont feel like fishing for them try sunken ships. I usually find at least one if i search EVERY barrel.

I am surprised by this fact? But why is that the case then? How does that work as a game mechanic that the sloop takes so long?

That's awesome about shipwrecks. I want more underwater activities to do.
The rowboat is a good idea too. Thanks man. All fantastic.

Another thing about those shipwrecks is they restock the same way islands and outposts do. If you find yourself near one while fishing for an extended period of time, be sure to check it every 20-30 minutes to get more random raw/cooked fish out of it.
