Commendation corrections

  • I’m a die hard sea of theives player probably have several thousand hours of gameplay. I buy every ship I can when it launches not because I want it but because I want YOU to succeed and continue to support sea of theives. Here’s my issue you are always making changes to the game example the revives. The revives are great, they make it easier to keep your boat afloat and PvP is 10000 times easier but your achievements never changed I can get 30 kills in sea dogs and 27 won’t count cause they are revived. I think even if you don’t die but your dropped it should count as a kill. The chests were shrunk to a map full of them to just 1 and the achievement is still the same to sell X amount of stolen chests. The sea dog weapons are 240 wins but it was made 100 times harder with revives and soon you can’t shoot through the boat or masts. I think they need to be reduced I know the old die hards disagree but they didn’t face the challenges we do currently. It was easier to board a galleon kill all 4 or 3 and it sinks you win now they are reviving etc. I’m not a wimp but when you spend 5 hours in sea dogs and the people revive half your kills it’s super aggravating I think it’s a huge issue many groups I’m in stop playing the game over this one small issue. If you die regardless if your revived it should count as a kill period or adjust the commendation. The wait times in the arena are terrible but I get that probably a hard fix but please guys stop forgetting about the old and mid players.

  • Seems troublesome.

    The reaper's Chest commendations still say "sold to Duke" - I did not even sell them to duke since I was not active player year ago as I am now. It seems a lot of things were forgotten and not tweaked for the changes and they definitely should.

    Sea dogs, if before you could kill a guy, he has no revival ability, and that was a counted kill, then now a killing blow, but leaving downed should also count as a kill, or at least half of one so two or three downs count also as a kill as does a final one.

    I have not played any Arena and given how fanatically ready some people are to chase a battle, Sea Dogs must have it's problems.

  • @sumea-seven 100% example I got 15 kills today in arena 3 counted it’s an urgent fix some people play to get the commendations maybe it should be looked at

  • @ctghost88 I finished my commendations with revives in, it sucked, particularly cannon kills. if a drop counts they should double the number needed though.

    I also agree there are alot of commendation that should be updated to reflect the current state of the game. They did this once b4 when they lowered a bunch of commendation requirements but even tho they annonced it ahead of time and gave a set of sails for completing any of the old commendations b4 the change dispite all that alot of old guard player were still salty about it. So i think rare may be hestent to do it agian.

  • I got my 240 wins when matches were 24 minutes, you had to do more than mindlessly shoot cannons, and there were actually still good crews regularly playing arena.

    Between 15 minute matches, cannon spam meta, and sloop arena, it has literally never been easier to get legendary sea dog than it is right now. It most certainly does not need to be reduced.

  • @ctghost88 I agree, despite what some salty individuals may think (sorry not sorry) This and indeed many commendations are configured in a way that creates what constitutes (IMHO) an arbitrary grind.

    While I certainly agree that there needs to be some form of "extended play" and a modest challenge to keep players coming back and engaged there comes a point where certain tasks, and indeed certain commendations are simply far too drawn own or "grindy" when you consider how much RNG is built into the game, as well as how easy it is for other players to interfere with that progress.

    Progress retention is something that I personally believe needs to be in this game, and while the Devs have certainly added aspects of this concept, they have stayed shy away from proper implementation.


    As for the "Legendary Sea Dogs" Commendation, I 100% agree. Personally speaking, while I acknoweledge the reduced Arena time does help in terms of the potential "Time" it takes to obtain them, the factors that are not accounted for are Revives, Imballanced Lobbies (or unfilled lobbies to be more accurate), crews that abandon there ships or don't participate (lets face it, RARE can add whatever penalties they want it cannot stop someone who jumps off a boat and sits on an island for 15 minutes), and the still problematic wait time in the lobby itself. These factors alone increase an already arbitrary grind in a mode that still has enough kinks that need to be worked out. I am a modest PVPer and while I fully acknowledge I am not a hyper skilled individual, I am nowhere NEAR 240 wins in arena, and I can legitimately say I play arena at least a couple hours each week and I would truly say that most of my "losses" are established in the "lobby"

    A final issue I have with this commendation is more so a fundamental concept. This commendation AND its weapons were the FIRST additions to Pirate Legend content this game EVER HAD. It took 1 full year of minimal content drops spaced out over 3 months at a time (at the time at least) for them to even give any Pirate Legend content and not only did it consist of exactly 1 Commendation addition and cosmetics, they were locked away behind a game mode that (debatably) people do not always want to play, with a Company that (at the time) did not contribute to even BEING a pirate legend (they only changed that after Year 2 mind you), with ZERO way to obtain it in adventure, which remember adventure is the PRIMARY way to become Pirate Legend and it offers no method to obtain the weapons. Lets not even touch the fact that you might as well not even touch Arena if your not a Pirate Legend because NONE of your Win count towards the commendation, so you might as well not play arena until you are pirate legend, otherwise your grind will potentially be even longer! (that's a whole separate conversation right there)

    Personally, I would be willing to let it sit behind the Arena Commendation, if it at least had some form of equivalent Adventure Mode Alternative. Heck it could Still have some form of a grind to it (lets face it most of these commendations are a grind). Make so you have to sink 240 Boats, or Kill 500 Players as a Pirate legend. While it certainly will take time like anything else, it would still encourage the spirit of the PVP oriented commendation but requiring a PVP style method to obtain it, and lets face it, Arena or Adventure, Killing 500 players or Sinking 240 boats is not a short lived task, nor an easy thing, but at least in Adventure (compared to Arena) its far more manageable SOLO without the constraints that Arena adds on.
