I think content updates need to be paused. The whole team at Rare absolutely needs to fix Hit registration, one of the most biggest and game effecting bugs in the entire game. Its not good to keep releasing updates into a broken game.
Hit Registration (come on now)
@densestwind9199 hitreg can not be 100% fixed even in a game like valorant. But I agree that Rare needs to just focus on Game Breaking issues. To put how broken this game is, my team won a tourney but since this game is so broken we are retiring until this game gets fixed. Its so annoying seeing 10+ bugs and 5 of them are game breaking in the first 30 min of playing.
List:
Mast bug (only seen on mid mast)
Water Bug aka ear **** Bug which was "fixed" but still in game with a different sound
Another Water Bug (visual glitch)
Rowboat Bug (no shots count if you are on the rowboat shooting at someone else | New since ashen winds update)
Fire Bug (visual glitch)
Bucket Bug (splashback onto the boat when trying to put yourself out from fire)
Multiple CANNON BUGS (not able to reload (Hard Locked), not able to reload (Soft Locked), Not able to fire even though loaded, Ghost Cannons (fires but no ball shoots out), Gatling Gun Bug another version of ghost cannons but can be spammed, Q Bug or whatever the equivalent is for trying to load a different ball in the cannon (the hud gets stuck on your screen so you cannot turn), Cannon Ball Hitreg (yes sadly this a thing too lol), Shooting yourself out of a cannon can still be bugged and launch you at a different angle. P.S. Cannon Reloading and Ghost Bugs have a HIGHER CHANCE to HAPPEN if your boat gets hit by a BLUNDER BOMB by at least 70% in NAL. We used this to purposely not allow the other teams to shoot back and force the bug on them (Broken Right? Correct.)
Wave Dsync (two different things. One rubber bands and snaps the boat around, seen easily while shooting cannons when this happens. The Second one shoots the cannon either lower or higher than expected).
Hitreg (of course lol)
Pet Spam Sound Bug
Multiple different ADS Bugs
Sprint Bug (shows sprint animation in your pov but you move just as slow as walking)
Sword can still m1 spam out of your own sword combo after the second hitWith wallbangs removed I cant tell if shots are just not getting registered or parts of the boat are blocking so...
this can be broken for the rest of the games life span and we wouldn't even knowPing is still way too high.
The game suffers from really bad Spaghetti Code meaning they need to hire a team to comb through their coding.
Also needs better optimization in general, but specifically, it needs to be optimized when you sail next to a big island like shark bait. Playing in a tourney then all of a sudden your frames go from 80 down to 20-30 range is extremely game-breaking. Even so, since the meta in arena is Naval only meta so there is no point the island is even there anyways. Not only that but arena meta is so *** but I rather have bugs fixed before arena gets fixed. Not only that but sword is completely OP since hitreg is so awful
Sorry, Densest Wind I went on a tangent although I completely agree with all of you. ill prob make my own post about this if I ever make a vid showcasing all these bugs

Glad I wasn't the only one whose noticed ping being way too high as of late all of a sudden.
As much as I want content updates like TallTales, bugs are definitely a priority and I kind of wouldn't mind for one update primarily focusing on bug fixes, sure it likely won't fix all of them but it will be nice for one.@puggins7318 I would agree with you about a year ago. But this has been ongoing for WAY too long. They need some help from devs at Microsoft. Because their team obviously can't handle it.
For 6 months we have seen in each patchnote that the hit registrations will improve but to be honest it's getting worse and worse.
It is the basis of a shooting game that the shots work properly. This is game breaker, game changing.
Frustrates everyone and this is the main reason why the game is not competitive or streamable in arena because it is so frustrating (I obviously skip the other 500 sound, visual bugs etc)
@wheezerbean Rare has a lot of employees, but only a handful of them are focused on coding, and I am pretty confident that most of their focus is on fixing bugs.
Rare also has a number of Modelers, Animators, Designers, and other artists. The majority of these folks probably don't have much of a grasp on programming, some may have a solid understanding of it but it is not their focus, and most of them wouldn't even any idea on how to delve into the programming code to find the root causes of the bugs.
We live in a need based job economy, so they need to have something to do to warrant their employment. While there may be other things being developed at Rare that they can work on, most of them are designing things that get added to Sea of Thieves. Sea of Thieves is not a subscription based game, and it is 2 years old. The only way to keep a team dedicated to Sea of Thieves is to have an income generating aspect of it, which is the Pirate Emporium... so there NEEDS to be people making assets for the game that people will spend real money on to keep the paychecks, or they need to be increasing the value of the game to entice people who wrote the game off due to "Lack of content" day one reviews focused on to buy it.
Basically what I am trying to say: Monthly updates are there to help the game live on so the bugs get fixed.

Yeah the performance issues are in my opinion along with the Hit reg the biggest Probleme. If I am playing the Arena the Framerate Drops between 35-50 FPS with a gtx 1070 (in adventure I have on the See normaly between 90 and 130 FPS) so the combat is very Hard (better then on a original xbox one but still bad). Also the Problems on big islands like Thieves Haven, where my Framerate is dropping down to 40 FPS, is a huge Problem. Also a Problem are short frame drops on the open sea. These performance issues and hitreg need to be fix for a better playing experience!!!

Game isn't supposed to be a competitive game..
& its plenty streamable in Arena? Am i missing something?@mixelplxx
Game isn't supposed to be a competitive game..
That is THE excuse. Since people believe this they believe balance and bug fixes dont benefit them when it does. It shouldn't matter whether the game was conceived originally as a competitive game or not to have the game function as intended. As of right now, all of the issues combined both the balancing of the combat and the overabundant amount of game-breaking bugs make this game look like a joke whether that's causal play or sweating your nuts off. These issues have been in the game for over a year now without any being ironed out although they keep on adding more bugs.
Anyways to argue if a game is competitive. Its not even up to the devs to decide this one. As long as there is a big enough community to support it then there is a competitive scene. Look at Clash of Clans a mobile game that was designed to just get money pumped into. That has a competitive scene and they run bigger tourneys than SoT. Its then up to the devs to either help fuel or spark a match to help the scene grow. Which SoT has helped all three major tourneys. RoL, NAL, SoC all have had ways to get private servers even before partnered streamers got their hands on it. Not only that but they gave them Obsidian Capstans to help funnel viewers to watch and see if they like the comp scene at least as a viewer. They also made separate unique sails just for SoC and NAL winners which is actually fantastic and I didn't even think was possible. Also the addition of Private Servers could revive TDMs which died since other players try to ruin them in pubs and hitreg. So that's 50% of the fight. It could have helped with sword 1v1 leagues but those died completely after the nerf.
But other than that yes based on the other decisions like how they balanced sword, removal of wall bangs, and not fixing bugs or hitreg makes it seem like they are trying to purposely force sweats to quit the game entirely
I also think a grafikdesigner, questdesigner, world builder can not help fix this.
Afaik i read it is because if the Tickrate of Microsoft Azure Cloudservers.
So that is not a Rare Problem, but a Microsoft Problem.
No validation, just hearsay. The game is indeed not focussed on competetive gameplay.
You can become PL without to fight.
PvPers often say let everyone play the game like he want to if we talk about fixing exploits like DGE or WB.
The are also vocal against sacrificing loot in the shroud or against alliance servers, but they hop servers to find active FotD or other event, ships they can plunder.
So one can decide to play the game not competetive. He can flee all the time, avoid all fights and scuttle before anything happens.
I know many do so.Those players arent that much affected by bad hitreg and it's near to no problem.
PvP focussed and Arena player issue only.
The rest is fine, sure it can be improved, to me it is the inaccuracy of guns of that time perfectly simulated :-)

How many times do we need to read the same complaints about hit registration? Do I feel like they are working on the issue? Sure. 100%? Nope, not at all.. but I'm not a game developer and I know this game has a bunch of moving parts so I'm not going act like an entitled consumer.
This is your outlook on it. While they have facilitated private servers for these community tournaments, this game at its core is a casual game now. Adventure is just that. There are a million things to do now that aren't pvp focused.
As someone who focuses 50/50 on Arena/Adventure, Arena while there might be a bunch of these smaller group community's, are still a small percentage of the overall player base.
I'm with @Reverend-Toast on this - what you're suggesting is not a reasonable expectation, and if implemented, would set a dangerous precedent. The game needs to continue making a profit, so you can't seriously ask the developers to drop everything to solely focus on bugs, because then the game would suffer as the community grows increasingly bored and starts to taper off with other games.
It should be enough for you that they are fixing bugs in addition to adding new reasons to continue sailing. Yes, the list is long, and new bugs are being discovered with new content, but that shouldn't discount a lot of the fixes that have already, and continue to, come through. These things take time, and with time, the game will continue to both grow and improve. Patience is a virtue, so, wait some more - it'll do you some good, I would imagine.

How is it not reasonable to expect the game to be functional as of right it is not. "Taper off with other games" because no new content is actually false. The people who are the most upset with these bugs have already done everything. I've seen over 60% of the people I used to see around leave because of bugs. So....

How much patience do I need? Do I need to wait two more years before I am allowed to be upset? No. I have already waited longer than a year for most of these bugs in the game. Which fixes are talking about? The Tall Tell bugs which were hotfixed. But Rare would rather fix those instead of the ones that cause you to sink and lose all the 2+ hours of loot you grinded for. If it takes longer than 2 years to fix a bug then maybe they should start looking for replacements for that job or just higher more qualified people in general.
Steam has made a lot of money for SoT. There are 66,600 players at its maximum. Lets say at most 15% refunded so a total of around 56,600 for $40 each. That is over $2 mil. Somehow they cant find a better coding team or even make it a bigger team? Doesnt make sense to me.

It is! Yes, it has issues, but the core gameplay works! I can go hours without any (major) issues. For example, even the hit registration won't even come into play unless I get into a fight with other pirates up close, which is a rare occurrence as is, much less with hit registration issues. I see hit registration issues maybe once a month! That's 29-30 days of SoT without it...
I'm not denying that there are issues. There are, and they should be fixed, but I'm not going to delude myself into thinking that the sky is falling.
Here's what I know:
- I enjoy the game.
- The game is playable in its current state.
- The game has numerous bugs.
- The devs have acknowledged and are working on fixing most of those bugs.
- The devs have already fixed numerous issues.
- Support for the game, both from the devs and the community, is ongoing.
- Every game has bugs.
- Laughing at people is rude.
@bugaboo-bill First of all hitreg is a big problem on adventure mode as well and just because you dont like the arena does not make it second class.
Sea of Thieves can be competitive just like it can be relaxing, stop enforing your game style in every post, Sea of Thieves at times is very competitive and there is nothing wrong with that its part of the game. Just like it can be calm and i can chat with friends and talk about the lore and enjoy the story.
Stop diminishing everything that its not up your ally.
Server hopping is NOTHING like alliance servers!
You only hop to a server to find the event that you are looking for but you still need to do it and encounter obstacles on the way and servers alliances once set up, easy to grind with no threat.@faceyourdemon my point was:
The gsme is not focussed on competition.
People who make it only about competition suffer more because of hitreg. To me it is not a big problem. I take it as the inaccuracy of guns of that time and because everyone can suffer it's balanced. Some sort of rng factor to guns. Fine and no big problem.
This is self inflicted problems as the game is not focussed on competition.
Competition is a part of the game, even an important part. But more important than the competition itself is just the threat that competition is alltime possible.Every session i play i do PvP and i have very less problems with hitreg.
Did i say something how the game has to be played?
No! I did not with a single word.
@faceyourdemon
It's an additional mode.
To me this mode did nothing good.
It is not fun to me.
It's cheesable.
The players i meet there are often not very friendly or playfull.
It attracted players with completely different demands.
The, stop updating fix hitreg posts show this.
If i could have a new series of TT 's and Rare focussing on PvEvP content and more Tales, more stuff like coming GH Journey features, think of the riddles with the shaped wood, think of Sudds Spyglas and what not i'd be very happy there were no Arena, but this.Arena to me is not second class, it's an additional game mode i'm not only not interested in, but imho caused a lot of problems of the community and different focussed playstyles and for the effort, money and work and all that we could have way more and better content in Adventure mode. What is the main game to me and many others.
I can only hope, and i do so not to be disrespectfull or not grant these players this mode, the Arena fails, fails and fails and people abandon it and Rare in the end shut it off, saves the work and money for Adventure mode Improvements, Tall Tales and such.
Today's patch notes have fixes for hit reg in Arena for all you salty dogs out there with faulty firearms:
https://www.seaofthieves.com/release-notes/2.0.17.1Specifically:
-
Attacking with ranged weapons while standing on the Arena hand-in ship will now correctly register shots on rival players.
-
Attacking with ranged weapons while standing on a Rowboat will now correctly register shots on rival players.
-
@puggins7318 we’ve been doing that and nothing has been fixed. It only gets worse with every update. That’s why a lot of players have stopped playing including myself. But I still visit the forum because I actually like this game and want it to succeed but I just can’t play it right now because it’s too broken.

What rock are you living under? It's the exact opposite!
...and that aside, what metric exactly are you using to determine that a lot of players have left? The community for the game has been growing!
🙄
@galactic-geek
Uhh... no? What rock have YOU been living under? Have you even touched sea of thieves or do you just go on the forums to spew nonsense about a game you don’t even play? The hitreg gets noticeably worse each update I don’t know what your talking about bud. Source: a player who plays the game for pvp and does nothing but tdm at forts with friends (which requires shooting guns btw in case you don’t know what that is). So no it’s the exact opposite of what you claim. And I also remember you saying how you only experience hitreg once a month so how would you even know anyway? Since your miraculously the only person to experience reg once a month how would you even be aware that it gets worse? Tell me that. And the ‘metric’ I am using to claim that players left is... the sot pvp community discord’s that I’m in! Nearly all of them have stopped playing due to the reg that gets worse after every update (the same reg you somehow experience only once a month. Maybe, just maybe, your lying or don’t know what reg is). And I never said the games community is shrinking I said a lot of players are leaving. Stop constantly putting words in my mouth like you do to me and everyone else you reply to.@galactic-geek sagte in Hit Registration (come on now):
@trik68 The game is absolutely functional.
It really isn't. You rarely see a game that has that many gamebreaking bugs and glitches, for such a long period of time.
And in addition they take forever to fix them, if they even fix them. Most of the time, at best, it will just stay under "known issues".@galactic-geek sagte in Hit Registration (come on now):

Then you clearly don't pvp that often. Or you are blessed with godly luck.

Sadly not, sometimes it gets better and then with the next update it gets worse again or something else that's as important breaks.
Rare clearly is in over their heads when it comes to pvp, and server stuff in general. It's clearly visible after 2 years. They had a phenomenal game idea and made it into reality but fail to give it the final touch it deserves, to make it a complete, well rounded game.
