Flameheart Not Despawning?

  • I was soloing my first Athena voyage and Snake Island was one of the destinations, but Flameheart and his ghost ships were there. I went and did everything else for my voyage and 3+ hours later (don't judge, I pick up everything, including diving on wrecks!) he was still blocking access to the island. Is this normal? Is it because Plunder Outpost is in range so anyone visiting it or spawning there resets him? It's frustrating to not finish my voyage but I'm not going to tangle with Flameheart solo...

If you're doing your first solo Athena, then you are a PL... I'd recommend just doing the Flameheart event and getting it out of the way. It would certainly take you a lot less than 3 hours.

And it's not that difficult to solo, btw

I could try, but I'm a better "gatherer" than a combat captain and putting my emissary rank on the line is risky considering the time investment to rank it up as a solo player. When soloing, I generally avoid ship combat with anything bigger than a skeleton sloop. I'm very good at running away, though... :)

I used to be the same, until I realised that none of it matters. Gold is abundant and easy to earn. Emissary levels are not that hard to achieve and, if you take more risks, they're even easier. When I solo, I PvE almost exclusively.

But the way I see it, if you took the risk on Flameheart and triumph solo, that's a better win, a better story and sense of pride than skulking around the map avoiding everything.

Again, I used to do that, and looking back, I feel like I wasted a lot of time being afraid to lose.

  • Flameheart is actually pretty easy if you just pick off ships one by one. Just rather slow that way. Mostly sail around the outside, always check the direction you and the ghost ships are heading so you don't run into each other. On the boss waves you can pick off the helper ships and they won't respawn. On the last wave you can take down the flagship itself to end the event or take down the other minibosses too for their loot.
Once you have a good feel for ship management you can sail between the ships and take down 3 at a time, since it's 3 shots to kill each minor ghost ship. Takes maybe an hour when you're efficient at it I think.

  • @glytch1972 if you were 3h picking up every single thing, you should have been stocked to the brim and capable of fending off flameheart or grab a rowboat and head over there that way with your ship safely parked somewhere?

You are a legend, use your wits?
