  • @selensmith it will come someday...but notice, WITHOUT ANY PROGRESSION...so if you turn in treasure you get NO REP OR GOLD

  • @schwammlgott don't be so sure about that, but the reputation gold and achievements will not be shared with that of the public domain. It is a private instance, it will be separate from the rest of the community. A new pirate, a new world and the ability as the owner to do as you please. Be it give everything away or keep it as vanilla as you want.

  • @selensmith how about no

As devs say, there won't be any PvE servers, and private server with seperate progression would be just that...

Anyway, I'm stupid, because I get into this discussion again...shame on me

  • You wanna pay for a server to play on with you’re friends but have no progression? Why tho?, I don’t get why people want private servers, unless they are holding some sort of event.

    No thank you.

  • Explain why you want this.

  • @selensmith

With zero progression of any kind, sure have all the private servers you want

  • Or just git gud

Or play black flag or something I guess.

  • Three words for you
    "Get good scrub"
it's never happening seeing as all these pve nerds cry about getting sunk by other players. Tis a pirate game so i needa yoink your loot

Well me and my gaming friends have games we play on private servers that you rent but those games you can do a lot more on,such as all kinds of mods and building.

This game I do not think there is enough as is to justify a paying for a server.

Free private servers on SOT can be fun because you can invite more than three friends, all have your own ships and do battles or whatever.

  • I really like the game, but there are some bad people in the galleon who use the idea that you are alone and there are four of them that are killing you! That's why you need a paid private server with a monthly subscription.

  • @selensmith So pay to win?? Nope. Nope. Nope.

  • @combatxkitty you think it can be fun but after you’re first day of battling you’re friends on a empty server with no progress it will get boring real quick. Why don’t you and you’re friends just playing on normals servers and battle everyone else? Seems kinda simple

Why are youagainst a private server? Just because you feel you would get bored does not mean everyone would .Obviously its not meant to be a every night thing and as long as there is no progression who cares? I do play on a normal server with my friend and I am fine with that but my point is that being able to play with multiple friends can be fun too. The devs are already working on this anyways.

If someone has more than three friends they can not get them on a regular server unless they go through the trouble of finding a ship, convincing them to invite them to their crew, leave their crew, join that one then having friend take their spot. Im against that by the way since that could lead to a server take over. It would be fun if you could go to a private server and invite all the friends you want and then have ship battles, races or whatever.

Why not just battle strangers? My point was to have fun with more than three friends so your question is moot.

  • I'm happy for people to play the game in their own little "bubble" even if it's free.

So long as it's a new pirate, totally separate progression and cannot cross over at all.

    This way you can't farm.

Monthly subscription for a game mode that frankly is going to be very bare compared to the original mode wouldn't be a very good deal.

Unless you got money to burn
But no doubt you may become very bored with sea of thieves if your adventures are the same over and over and over and over and over and over again. No ambushes. No pirates. No stolen loot and no tense moments.

I think a lot of people would just come back to the original game mode when bored and then continue to post about pirates and losing their loot
.. Oh and nerfing the blunderbuss! Haha.

A private pve only server isn't for me. Too boring. But if its no cross over then sure why not. But I won't be sailing anywhere near there.

So you're telling me you cant make a party and join a server with a couple of friends and have fun? Lol sounds absolutely ridiculous I dont know who you're trying to fool here but it ain't happening

  • So, Rare is working on private servers. These servers won't have any progression at all, just a playground for you and your friends. At the moment we don't know the details of how it is going to work, if they are only for event organizers, or for everyone, if it's going to be free, or if it's going to be paid...

My guess? Free for EVERYONE. A little playground for you and your friends to do what you want. Imagine it as the "Creative mode" of Fortrash. Something like "Sea of Thieves Creative Mode or Sandbox Mode".

  • I think these 'Private Servers' the game devs have mentioned will only be accessible to members of the creator crew, not for any old tom, (d)ick and harry to mess about on.

They didn't said members of the creator crew. What they said was they wanted to make easier to organize events such as Sea of Champions, Race of Legends, Skullball etc making private servers.

  • @eggamer13 Yea I know they didn't say that, I just think that's what will happen. They will use it for hosting events but potentially for content creators to produce videos too.

This is going waaaay over your head. What do you mean who am I trying to fool? Fool for what? I would want a private server without in game progression, it would have zero in game benefits to me. So what exactly am I trying to fool for what? Can you answer that please?

Yes I can make a party and join a server with a couple friends. The keyword is "couple".

I am talking about the ability to join a server with multiple friends all on their own ships. Being able to sail around with them and do whatever. I am not sure what is so difficult for you to understand about that. It really is not a difficult concept. Maybe you do not have more than three friends, I dont know you but for people who do private servers would be fun.

Why dont you answer this question; why do you care so much if private servers are brought to the game? I am talking about ones where you cant grind faction work in or earn rep. Private servers just for hanging out with MULTIPLE friends or to host community events with MULTIPLE people.

  • See but people already get burnt out if they rush this game, just imagine what's going to happen if you had a private sever with gold no rep no levels. People would stop playing so fast that or they would start PVP'ing because guess what!?!?! There is nothing else to do. So no private severs are a stupid idea and will just divide the community even more than the xbox only option does.

How would private servers without progression divide the community? Why would people stop playing so fast because of the addition of private servers? If the fact that no progression bothers them they can stay in main adventure mode. I understand peoples aversion to PvE servers because that would actually divide the community but this? I do not see it.

  • @combatxkitty People would stop playing on a private sever because there would be nothing to do on that sever and they would get bored. As for dividing the community it's simple, all the pve players will jump ship from adventure mode to go to the "private" severs because they can choose who they want and don't want to play with them, and that kinda ruins the point of the game. You can try to argue to heck and high water with me about the PVE aspects of the game but this game isn't about that, it's about the balance of both. This game isn't some mmorpg theme-park like world of warcraft. It's a party adventure game about being a PIRATE. If you don't like it, then this is not the game for you clearly. Once again my point stands. Private severs are a stupid idea.

  • @silentboops said in Private paid server.:

Private servers arnt meant to be an every day and night thing though. SOT devs are already creating them for events so why not let people have them for their own events or whatever? Of course it would be boring to play on a private server non stop, a private server should not replace regular adventure mode.

As for dividing the community it's simple, all the pve players will jump ship from adventure mode to go to the "private" severs because they can choose who they want and don't want to play with them, and that kinda ruins the point of the game. >

Why would PvE players jump ship to a private server that is really only good for hosting events with multiple friends on? Its not like they would be able to earn progression or do faction work, forts ect so you saying they would jump ship I think is abit of a exageration.

You can try to argue to heck and high water with me about the PVE aspects of the game but this game isn't about that, it's about the balance of both. Again you would not be able to PvE away in a private server. Some people jump to the " if you dont like it play another game" thing too quickly. I am not saying you should be able to do PvE work in a private server calm down. Yeah its a party adventure game about being a pirate, well why cant we have a party and an adventure with more than three friends? Ive met many cool pirates but there is no room in their crew to join them. It would be fun if my crew and theirs could get together in a private server one day and hang out. That is all I am saying, not grind the day away just have some fun.

I am against ideas that would actually split the community, I just do not see how a private server one could host events on or hang out with more than 3 friends every now and then would split the community. I think it would add a fun additional option to the game.

Lets see if devs decide to make the private servers they are working on open to everyone or not. I trust them to do what is right for the game so if they decide not to that is fine for me. I am certainly not going out of my way to campaign for them because I really do not care that much.

  • @silentboops

I am 100% against PvE servers but think people get confused between PvE servers and private servers. I totally agree with @combatxkitty that private servers would not be a negative thing for the game, quite the opposite in fact.

6 ship race from Smugglers Bay to Ashen Reaches and back anyone? Do you take a short cut through the storm? Would probably even not be much trouble to have the odd random (non-loot) Meg or something spawn in for a bit of extra spice if you wanted to.

  • It's the same nonsense, the people who don't want PVE only don't want it because then they can't get their jollies from killing players who enjoy the PVE content. The story, lore and missions are all secondary or less to these people, some have bragged never having done any. And hell the youtuber/twitch streamers will never want it because they hunt them for target practice and ad revenue.

I sad it ages ago, once the majority of players get legendary, and no purpose in doing content, they will just attack players more and more out of boredom, and push out those interested in actual content. It won't matter how much lore and story they add if people can't take part without bored players just attacking them.

Might as well take all PVE out and just focus on ARENA....PVP don't want that though they loose the sport of killing people who actually like the PVE stuff in this game.

I know many people who haven't played this in months and are waiting to see what happens with Private Servers. I would happily pay a monthly fee to have a private server with a few friends and progress tied only to that server. Though I would much rather areas of the map with higher rewards and PVP encouraged, and reduced rewards and PVE in the rest...

  • @dragonsire2016

This is a thread about private servers.

It's nonsense to state that everybody against PvE servers are just out to make PvE players life a misery and most of the popular youtube/twitch crowd are only after emissary's/FOTD and other high rewards.

You might want to drop a few chunks of potato in there to get some of the salt out.

  • @wagstr

I've been a chef my whole life. Potatoes don't reduce the salt in a soup or stew or whatever. What happens is people add potato thinking they're reducing the salt and THEN the starch and texture of the potatoes thickens the soup/broth...

..Then people add liquid to reduce the thickness which DILUTES THE SALT and tastes better.

Private servers could really benefit many players, and content creators. I'd pay to host my own server too, but I have a feeling it's going to be something very specific or restrictive.

I have yet to see an effective argument for or against Private Servers which isn't very subjective as to what players think the game should be played like. There are lots of people here saying "you should play like THIS" or "You should play like THAT". I hope Private Servers would simply increase customers options. If Rare allowed a Private Server in the world with no progression or reward whatsoever then people would flock there in droves. I think that's what they're scared of.

To suggest people would get bored on a private server is quite narrow minded. People have playtime in unmodded Skyrim of 2,3 and 4k hours. Doing the same stuff, and the same quests. They just like wandering around Skyrim.

I suspect people would just like sailing around a lot, digging things up, having drunk races along the beach, playing shanties, and generally hanging around with their mates. I can't see anything wrong with that, and if you have a problem with that then it's no surprise there's a very caustic nature to a lot of what happens with Sea of Thieves, both in game and out.

  • @theargonaut144

I think you're nit-pickin dude... My family have always been in the restaurant trade and I'll bet i'm quite a bit older than you (apologies if i'm not) and have had a lot of old chefs say to me over the years if a dish is too salty, add a fair bit of potato, wait until it's cooked and remove then top up the water.. Less salty... :-)

    ...........................................................................................................................

Just to be clear you are not referring to my ignorance below the dotted line because I agree with private servers.
