Further Pirate Customization

  • Totally would love that idea.

At least a pre-choice for male and female pirates would be nice. No point in having half the bunch of random generated pirates being female or male if you already know you wanna play a certain gender.

Because that's a choice, I believe, most players actively make and usually do so in advance. So having the option to preselect or filter would speed up the creation process.

And yes I spent almost 2 hours trying to find a pirate model I actually liked so much to start playing at last ;-)

    Cheers,
    Nuit

  • Rare was specifically against this during the creation of the game because of EXACTLY what you said: "spent several hours." The original dev blogs were saying that they want the players to spend more time PLAYING the game than customizing their character. Day 1 launch would have been chaos as the servers were filled with people scaling x, y, and z features and never playing the game.

There are also two other things to think about:

    1. This is a First-Person Game so unless you are emoting you are not going to be seeing your pirate. It is super nice to set it and forget it. Sure, pictures and such are nice, but each character that was created has its own story.

    2. Uniqueness - Rare created custom models that are unique in some form or fashion. If everyone could modify or create the character the way they wanted to most of those characters would look like Jack Sparrow or Elizabeth Swan.

While I think it could be a great money-making opportunity to allow people to customize their pirate's features more it takes away from the core concept of the game: Have fun creating your own stories on the journey.

  • Here we go, another Pirate-Barbie wannabe...

Pirates were never meant to be pretty. Embrace the dirty, rotten, up-to-no-good scoundrel you were always meant to be!

  • I believe that if you lock some pirates before re-rolling, the next set of pirates will try to have similar physical features to the locked selections. Using this, you can narrow down your available options to find something that you want without needing to pick each feature individually.
