I was in an island's beach, my ship anchored very near. A very heavy ship, not like the usual skeleton ship that attacks you, very heavy, a skeleton ship, stopped close to me, and it was like "it" was watching me. Then it turned around and left. What ship was that, and what was that all about?
Question about a skeleton ship
There are two types of skeleton ships - the sloop version and the galleon version. Both can be spawned and sail around randomly. If you get too close to or shoot at these, they will aggro and attack you.
When you are sailing around, sometimes a skeleton ship will spawn directly on you and attack immediately. This is preceeding by a battle song and the ship rising out of the water. If you are on a sloop, a skeleton sloop will spawn. If you are on a brigantine or galleon, the galleon version will spawn.
@d3adst1ck And what was the stop/idle/ and then sailing way all about?
BTW it didn't spawn, it sailed to me from a distance.
Stop/idled, then sailed away. It was spooky lol@snoopscoobie They have set paths that they follow while not attacking anyone. They'll sail to an island or fort, stop for a bit and then go on to the next place.
@doctorfork this also makes sense, since it came almost as close a harpoon distance and then idled there

if you shoot at them or board them you will trigger it to attack, otherwise the skeleton ships that dont appear from the depth are passive roaming around.
Try to sink them, it's easy :)@bugaboo-bill yeah i figured that out, it's like an NPC that will aggro, so I didn't attack.
It did came from a distance like it was coming for me, so either it's that it was just its sailing root, or combined sailing root + no one was on the ship.
It might be also that my ship was too close to the beach and anchored? I don't know
