I was doing a cargo run in the devils roar when I was on the island and got hit one time by a volcano rock. After that I went to the ferry and my ship was sunk. I thinks that’s kind of op if I have not a single opportunity to fix my ship and get out of there. Instead, I lose my emissary and 2 hours of work. That needs to be tweaked.
Devils Roar OP for solos
Take a step back and realize where you are and what game you are playing. Sea of Thieves is a multiplayer game designed with crews in mind. Everything about the game is designed with working together to an extent it is reinforced in the ship layout. One can't glance at the map without having to leave the wheel, this is intentional because it is intended that someone else besides you would be reading it. Anchor and sails go faster when working with people. The Devil's Roar is supposed to be a challenging area while even with a crew. It doesn't need to be neutered any more. What you need to do is find a crew.
The devil's roar has been nerfed soo much already making it a pleasure cruise.
You should've been sailing when it was first introduced.
T'was truly a place for legends to sail.@developedant72 you are choosing two things
- you are choosing to be a solo Slooper in a game designed to be played with a crew. Right there, you are accepting the difficulty increase
- You are going to the Devils roar, the "hard mode" area of the map.
You really would have hated the devils roar back before it got its first nerf.
Ok jeez. Didn’t know people had so much opinion on this topic. Thanks for the input. When I solo the devils roar, I expect to get hit and stock accordingly. I do however hope not to get one shot on my ship that creates a big enough holes to sink it before I get back. I usually do play with a crew, but I felt like soloing to take a break for a little bit. For those that say that “you didn’t lose that much. I’ve lost more”. That doesn’t make my problem irrelevant. If a child is starving in Africa, that doesn’t mean that me breaking my arm is not a problem. I guess what I’m trying to say is that I would like to have a chance to come back to my ship once before it sinks.
@avecrux Tradition has and always will be the worst excuse. Absolutely nobody would be hurt or disadvantaged if solos had it a little bit easier.
@avecrux Solos are hurt by being forced to crew up. Nobody would be hurt at all if solos had it easier.

I've spent an insane amount of time down in devils roar on a sloop.. The best is when you see the island grumble, watch the volcano... If it goes off just get out of there and wait at a safe distance. If it's just an earch quake then you are good, just anchor down to stop the boat going off on it's own merry travells.
Another help IS when anchors, used the harpoons to harpoon either side below you, it keeps the boat nicely.
Yes with another players it's a lot more helpful to keep one on the boat and others on the island and always alert, but it is doable.. Devils Roar is designed for a harder area player with a little more experience I like to think and involves a lot more attention to your surroundings.
I dont think its OP but it is a chore.
Waiting for what seems an eternity for the volcano to stop erupting so you can continue what you were doing.
I kinda avoid it. Not due to the difficulty, but due to the waiting around for it to stop.
If you like fishing though then i suppose you could fill your time in that way til it stops.

Yes they would, the solo sloopers who enjoy the additional challenge. Why should their game experience be lessened?
Sloops already get weaker megs, krakens and skeleton ships. Additionally, the DR has already been nerfed. If someone chooses to play 'hard' mode, then that's their choice.
Just because something is difficult, doesn't mean the game should be made easier. If you can't kill Bowser on Mario Odyssey, would you write to Nintendo and ask them to nerf him?
@avecrux Or they could just go into every fight with a sloop expecting it to be a duo sloop. Currently people are just picking on solos because, well, they're easier to sink. Lol.
@withmyapologies It could just as well be optional. Or they could pick a galleon for the ultimate hard mode.
And your comparison doesn't stand, but I'll humor you; yes. Say Mario can only move half as fast and jump half as high when you're playing alone; you need someone on the 2nd controller in order to actually get anything done. That's a deliberately gimped experience and I would definitely complain about that. The same holds true for SoT; solo buffs or a solo ship are a must, and not offering either of those is a deliberately gimped solo experience.@groggy-mayles said in Devils Roar OP for solos:

But they didn't design this game as a single player experience, which is the point your missing. It's designed to encourage a multiplayer, online, PvEvP, sandbox environment.
Those choosing to enter that environment alone, do so with the associated risks or difficulty that comes with it.
You need to watch some tutorials and learn how to play. There is a lot of content creator on Youtube with very nice solo sloop guide.
I don’t think it’s necessary to create a post every time you sink. The devs will no make the game easier because you have a lack of knowledge.
Devil’s roar is harder, but high rewarded.
I’m at your disposal if you need any help in game to learn few tips
If you are on an island and the volcano starts smoking, LEAVE.
If you are sailing and you see little embers fall from the sky and there is a volcano active nearby, you are in range. Avoid it. Sail out of range.I would suggest learning the mechanics of the game a bit more before making a post about getting a nerf. I would start with posts like "Any potential advice for smooth sailing in devil's roar as a solo?".
Sure you will get people telling you don't solo. But you will also get people who are going to tell you strategies they use when they solo.@developedant72 solo can be very difficult in general because of stuff like this. It has nothing to do with devil's roar: the added risk is in exchange for the added rewards.
Rare has dropped the nerf hammer on a lot of things that didnt need it. Megs. Kraken etc. They used to be a challenge but now are laughed off for a solo and I kill all three at once without breaking a sweat.
About a year ago I made a suggestion about the roar that I thought might help. Dont just straight up nerf it but rework its mechanics.
-at the load in of an island a "timer" starts a countdown. At regular intervals throughout this timer the earthquakes happen, the geysers go off and there is an increase in ashen skelle activity adding to the difficulty. Once the countdown hits 5 minutes or 10 or whatever the island erupts.
This suggestion is based off the fact that more often times then not I pull up to an island and it immediately erupts. I leave the area so I dont get hit which is far enough to unload the island and when I return it erupts again. This isnt "difficult" it's just boring, like i have nothing better to do then watch the island erupt for ten minutes.
I had a merchant delivery mission once. I went to ruby, got half the crates (eruption), left ruby with half the crates cuz I didnt want to pick my nose and wait for it to stop. Delivery was at fetchers. I passed flintlock and it erupted. I pulled up to fetchers and yep..you guessed it..erupted immediately. I turned back, looked as all three were now still erupting..said forget it and went back onto the regular sea.
Adding a timer setup with increased skelle activity and constant earthquakes and geysers actually makes it hard and adds a sense of urgency. Get in and out quick before the volcano pops!
Now it's just a snore fest as most of the time I'm hanging out in the middle of the water staring at a volcano and end up going to make food, getting a drink, or start playing on my phone until it stops lol I actually want the area to be difficult lol
The eruptions would be punishment for not being quick enough. The skelle increase would make the islands difficult while your racing against the clock and you will feel a sense of accomplishment as you sail away before the eruption.
I hope the roar one day is difficult. As now I choose to not go over there because I hate the idea of sitting and doing nothing. Maybe if they add a minigame on the boat I can play while I'm stuck waiting out the eruptions I'll go back over there again too lol
