So I was just playing and got attacked by a kraken and abandoned ship on my rowboat with a reaper's bounty chest. It was very hard to find my way to reaper's hideout and took me about 30 minutes. My suggestion is adding portable Maps like on the ship but you can equip it like any other item, also I think the portable Maps shouldn't show where you are on the map like the ship map but make it just a regular map of the game.
Portable Maps?
Compass, Sun, Stars
Those three things are your map and know how.and if you need extra help, row to closest island. It may come off as hard, but size of SoT map isn't difficult to place nearby islands and know your own location.
Soon you wont even need to use the map to know your location.
(Or use an app/Download the SoT map itself)Or even a menu system that you can pull up the name of any island and it will show you a glowing path to the island along with a beacon in the sky signaling where the island is. Maybe also a motor on the back of the boat to make it go faster. Or may be once you visit an island once you can “fast travel” there by talking to a person standing on the beach there. They could ferry/teleport you to your destination instantly, bringing along all your treasure while they are at it. Waddayathink? No? Yeah, me neither.
Jeez, you guys are insufferable. Really? A map in a pirate game is akin to fast travel and boat motors? Come-on it is literally historically accurate for you to be able to carry a map. People had maps. That's not wild. I like how you criticize the idea of a portable map that doesn't tell you where you are, but none of you complain about the boat maps that tell you EXACTLY where you are like a GPS, which is obviously absurd in a pirate game. Having a portable piece of paper with the islands mapped out is more historically accurate and immersive than the existing methods of travel. And I'm not saying one needs to replace the other, it's just a terrible criticism imo. I think portable maps make perfect sense. Perhaps you'd buy one from the tavern or something and from there you can do whatever you want with it. It's really not that crazy. Pirates didn't memorize every island they used maps like sane humans.
