Balancing on ropes

  • I think it would be cool to be able to balance on the rope of the harpoon.
This could be used to board other ships or to transport things like cloth to land safely.
It would require some skill to do, maybe you would need to press A and D to kind of lean left or right and if you mess up, you fall down. It could also get more difficult to stay balanced as the rope gets longer (due to the decrease of tension in the rope)

Other players could counter the boarding of their ship with this mechanic by just slashing at the rope and cutting it.
Let me know what you think!

  • @tschipp I agree it would be kinda cool to rope walk to another ship yet realistically in the time it would take you to do so I will have already cut the line or shot you. It would be much faster and stealthy to board in the ways we do now. A grappling hook to swing over would be more effective.

  • @venomous-sloth7 Maybe it could require a couple of slashes to balance it out. In any case, it offers another way to board where cannons or sword-leaping is not viable.

  • @tschipp It would require work for it to be balanced. I have boarded by cannon and if close enough you can sword lunge and board. Players are watching any ship trying to board them and to cross a distance on a rope would be hard to do and not be killed or knocked off in the process. I don't really see how to make it balanced enough though. As I had said with grappling hook and swinging over to board with a rope, that would be a faster and more fluid motion that would take a lot more skill to counter. There has been a good amount of talk from players boarding by rope and I would say one day the devs may work out a system for doing so. It would be interesting to see and try.
