Wind Disappearing?

  • I have noticed since the last update that from time to time the wind just up and disappears. It's still there but the visual representation of the wind goes away and sometimes never comes back. This has happend to my friend on Xbox, and myself and my son on PC. This happened to anyone else?

  • It comes back when you die or rejoin. This has been a bug since the game launched. So don't expect a fix soon ;)

Wow, I have never seen it until just recently. Not that its a huge deal, your sail kinda tells you where the wind is regardless.

Just put a flag up on the flag pole and use that :P

  • i have no clue if its a visual glitch or if it actually because there is no wind lol

  • @fllw3rb0y

Its visual. Just put a flag up and you'll see which way the wind is blowing by use of that.

Honestly I sometimes think for a little more immersion that they should do away with the wind lines and have players use the flags as a way to determine wind direction

  • @xultanis-dragon That's a good point. I suppose an option to turn it off in settings wouldn't be bad. Would be one less thing for the Xbox or PC to throw on the screen freeing up resources.

  • I have encountered this bug numerous times over the past few years and would like to see it fixed. With that said, however, I do like the idea of turning off theme wind lines for a more immersive and hardcore experience - that too is something that I have considered.

  • The wind only shows when you are on your ship and there are lots of ways you can end up on your boat (falling, climbing the ladder, rowboat, grabbing a harpoon, black screen, mermaid, return from the ferry, spawning into the game, using a cannon, dolphin diving, etc...) so one of them is not activating the wind display.

This bug has been around forever and I haven't noticed a pattern or figured out steps to reproduce it reliably, and it doesn't appear like anyone else has either, which makes it hard to track down and fix.

  • Rare will never fix this.
It's been a problem since launch.
Just another one of those bugs that they've abandoned caring about, like the following:

Being a green skeleton. [Since Launch]
Being naked with no clothes. [Since Launch]
Setting sail straight into the wind makes you faster(makes no sense whatsoever). [Since Launch]
Mermaid not spawning you back at your boat. [Since Launch]
Mermaids still sometimes taking five years to spawn. [Since Launch]
Mermaids still spawning in front of you when you're swimming towards an enemy boat(making sneak plays unnecessarily difficult).
    Invisible storms in arena.
    Hit-Markers not consistent.
Ships can get launched into the air if they hit something in the world just right. [Since Launch]
Megalodons following ships to the shore.
Blunderbuss one-shotting people from 10 feet away due to horrible lag-compensation from server-to-client.

  • @xultanis-dragon tbh sometimes there should be no wind, or there should be essentially regions of the world with more wind going in certain directions for realism.

  • @fllw3rb0y

I'd like gales to be in the game too, an uncontrollable force of wind that will rock the boat if the sails are catching side ways.

If you line up with the wind then you go like double max speed, but if your sails are pointing port side or starboard then the ship tilts completely and starts to sink. That way players have to pay attention to the direction of the wind when they turn and stuff.

Would be awesome if they did more with the wind.
