PVP Stats

  • I'm SURE this has been suggested before, but I couldn't find a way to search in the forum so sorry for the repeat but I just wanted to +1 the idea of some PVP stats. Pirates killed, ships sank, loot stolen, I wouldn't even mind deaths and times your ship sunk but I understand if devs want to obscure that so players don't get discouraged.

  • The year end review showed how many ships you sank if that is worth anything.

Personally I like to know all the possible ways I have died by, how many bullets I shot, skeletons I slain and ones that slay me.

heck the number of "falls" that killed me or times shot myself from a cannon.

If anything, they obscure it so that pirates aren't always ENCOURAGED to PvP on sight.

One of the biggest reasons why PvP stats are a bad idea is how it forms elitism among the community. Some might say there is elitism right now but there really isn't compared to other games.

Most players will decide whether or not a players opinion is valid if they can prove that they played the game long enough. Usually 4million meters sailed or I think its 6million now. This is usually a good staple to judge whether a player has played the game long enough of experienced enough to form a valid opinion. It's not always the case but I use it from time to time to judge how well versed someone is. I used it especially in Arena if I'm playing with rando's. If I'm playing with at least 2 other crewmates I don't mind the 4th being a rookie, but if its a ship of randos that I don't trust, then they have to have miles sailed. Again doesn't always dictate ability but like if someone has 6million but they claim that they still can't beat the Kraken then I decide that the person is just bad at the game entirely.

Point I'm trying to make is that when stats become available especially times sunk or KDR's, you get players that form opinions COMPLETELY based on these stats. Then players will stat farm to get better stats by somehow resetting the stats by deleting their pirate or whatever.

I've seen it happen in EVERY other game. "Well I have a 2.0 kdr which means you are a scrub, git gud noob. You don't know anything shut up." Is what a lot of debates will fall into.

"We could keep the stats private and not open." - Just in case you try to use this argument. The thing is, you see the stats, you can post your stats. Screen shot or whatever. Its not exactly private when someone wants to flaunt it.

I would rather not have to deal with the nonsense that will start from the community from this type of request. Honestly the only thing the stats serve is self indulgence and vanity. Why care about any of that if you had no plans to flaunt it in the first place am I right?

Yikes ok, I never really thought about it like that but you're probably right. If it saves us from community toxicity then I'm ok with no stats.

I'm just the type of gamer (or person in general really) that likes stats about anything, I didn't view it as a way to compare myself against other players. But I'm sure you're right in that's what would happen.
