Shipwreck Enemies

  • I think that shipwrecks need the occasional PvE element,
I'm not sure if i'm just looting them too quick for sharks to appear but I feel wrecks are too tame and the same. Sometimes I get tense thinking a player ship will be approaching but I never see one when I get back on board.

Perhaps circling the wreckage, waiting for edible debris, a small school of sharks, giving the loot buffet of shipwrecks an added challenge opposed to "how long can you hold your breath for." I'm unsure of how many the game can handle at once but looking at how many appear with a megalodon, I think we could do something.

Maybe it could be a Hunters Call thing where a Meg sunk a ship so you gotta get the loot for the wreck and kill the Meg.

Even something like wreckage skeletons could be a nice addition. Skeletons wrapped up in netting and trapped between barrels, as you swim past the skeletons could come alive and attack you or grab your legs, the player would spam the "X" or "F" button to release themselves.

    Thoughts?

  • I imagine when Rare eventually adds hostile mermaids, they will be an enemy to be found near wrecks.

  • @sailorkek

I've always had the idea of a skeleton ship posing as a shipwreck - a skeletal cloud of birds overhead warn experienced players, and anyone who attacks or boards causes it to surface and attack. I like the shark school idea, but I'd like to mention that shipwrecks already do spawn more sharks around them, which specifically try to circle for that added factor of.. something. I've heard suggestions of them also spawning circling megalodons and skeleton ships as what supposedly sunk the ship, which is also interesting.

  • There was an image floating around somewhere (I believe it's from the Sea of Thieves art book) which has evil mermaids swimming around wrecks or so. Those would be a nice addition.

  • @capt-soul-beard

There are several images depicting that in the SoT style, as well as at least one from that official book and a clip of the same thing from the cinematic trailer for the game.

  • @ultmateragnarok Thanks

  • I always liked the idea of seeing reef skeletons (like the ones you see in the TTs), walking along the deck and holds of the sunken galleons, despite the shipwrecks being sideways, upside down, etc. It would make for some great perspective fights with you swimming, and them potentially upside down. 😁

They, of course, would only be able to use their claws and swords, but you wouldn't be able to use your firebombs either.

Yeah see I never see sharks, that's the problem I reckon i'm looting too quick but too often its too quiet IMO

Yes exactly! i love the idea of skeltons that may or may not come alive but just having roaming skeletons of the past crew would work just as well.

  • Squids! With a grab attack and a inky cloud that blinds your vision. They don’t damage you but instead hold you until you drown. Getting free could require a a crew mate you cut you free. The only way to be grabbed is when you get caught in the ink cloud.

    Just a brainstorm.

I like the idea of an inky wreck, insideyou need to use your lantern an the loot is covered in ink like ther barnacled chests.
Tentacles would be cool but I do worry about the need to teamates in the event of solo players. Still an awesome idea though.

  • Eeels that quickly jump out of holes and scare ya, biting you for some damage... AC4 anyone?

  • @klutchxking518 See i want Jelly fish but eels/ sea snakes would work too. Be funny to see them pop out of barrels like a jack in the box.

  • it would be cool to see 2 ships wrecked together due to damaging eachother in a fight, 2 dragons eternally interlocked in a duel to the death.
