Looking at the footage, honestly it was more broken before this patch.
There were some people that were able to still shoot insanely fast with both guns, and in the video's it's not as fast as ive seen before the nerf.
Just make everyone carry a sword. Problem solved.
-edit- or at the very least implement something on the back end that allows you to toggle forced sword carrying on. That way if the next fix does not work you have a quick way to stop the exploit without your players having to endure it for the next few weeks.
@toastyrar It's not a punishment, it's game development. If they can't properly implement a feature so that it can't be exploited, it should be changed. That's just good game design.

Yep. Since "Using 2 guns"=exploit.
Didn't say that, now did I? No. So, just take down your strawman. But, if they can't implement the use of two guns in such a way that it can't be exploited in this way, then they shouldn't implement the use of two guns.

You say rare doesnt know what they are talking about, but next say they deliberately coded it like this... while they have been very clear about it actually being an exploit.
Idk who all has called it an exploit, but it's very unlikely that they were the people who actually coded it("Rare" isn't just one person. Even if though it's easier to just say "Rare" than "some specific dev"). They can call it whatever they want. The only first and only time I ever heard them call it an exploit was a way to 1. define it as a negatively viewed part of the game and 2. avoid taking responsibility for lazy design. The definition of "exploit" isn't whatever Rare(more specifically Joe Neate) says it is. To say so is just a meaningless appeal to authority.
You not liking it doesnt mean it is any less of that what rare considers it being in their own game,
Sure. I don't control what "Rare" thinks, obviously.
there will be a time where the 2 gun insta shot issue will be abolished
It already has and has been for awhile. To say otherwise is nothing short of delusional(Unless you have proof that no one else has seen).

This is good enough and better than I thought Rare would do. I haven't thought about it that much, but what I imagine is the "problem" is that there is no animation/delay for swapping while sprinting. It's not perfect and they could refine it better, but there are many many worse problems than making it so players can't shave off a 10th of a second between shots.
Everybody calling it skill to cancel an animation or call it a gamemechanic intended or unintended for everybody to learn would be a bad gamedesigner and is a biased player gamer gaming the system and only here to perform, own and rule.
All this mustn't be part of a comical pirate game to play for fun.
It even mustn't be a thing for a real good comptetive game like Rainbow Six for example.
It's only a thing for tryhards abusing glitches in competetive games that are badly coded regarding combat mechanics.
When the Devs literally and explicitly sated the first time around the double gun nerf was to stop people from shooting two shots in under a fraction of a second. That is a fact. That was the intent, to stop this gameplay. And just as this thread outlines it still exists. Pretty much the same as ever from what I can tell. So the Devs nerfed the sword and made no change to the double gun and now we need to wait another 3 months for a rebalancing to have fair combat. Thanks RARE and Deckhands !

Bravo! 👏
apreciate that, because i know we dont agreee always, but i allways respected your opinion and attitude torwards the Sea of Thieves!
Thanks!!!
i honestly have to submit that i'm for sure not that used in gamer terms or english terms about gaming in general.
What i want to say is people exagerating and give the gaming way too much meaning.
There is nothing wrong about e-sports and people who are really skilled and train their skills and style to play and such as long as it is part of the intended way to play and compete in these games.
I saw a cool video of someone who offers training in Rainbow Six and it's amazing what they are able to do from hearing ingame and their knowledge of the Maps and all that. That needs a lot of dedication and skill to learn. Its all fine.
But people abusing glitches and maybe are good at aiming in general , but then also talk bad about noobs are "tryhards" for me, also because SoT is in no way comparable to a serious e-Sport game like R6S or CS and they give it all too much meaning imho. Take it all too serious.
@boomtownboss Yes. They've also explicitly stated that there isn't supposed to be a one-shot kill in this game, but have yet to nerf the blunderbuss.
They explicitly stated that they didn't like there being a ranged instakill that you never see coming. A cannonball you can hear and see coming towards you. A gunpowder barrel you can hear. A player with a blunderbuss you can see and get away from (unless you're suffering from tunnel vision). You can't often see the DGE coming.

You have no idea what you are talking about. If you knew anything about game design you would know that animation canceling is an ESSENTIAL part of video games. Would you rather be locked into every single action? No. You wouldn't. For example sometimes you start eating on accident or realize it was a bad time so you CANCEL the eating animation. Are you gonna get upset about that animation cancel? or canceling the ready weapon animation? or any of the many other animation cancels? This game and virtually every other game would be horrible without the ability to cancel animations.
@pabio-escobar Most things what you Posted up Are FACTS,
100% Agree with your DG theory, Most ppl are noobs and cant counter that or do it by yourself.
@betsill PVP Games don't normally have cancel animation mechanics. R6 siege BF5 or fortnight for example does not let me swap my weapons to cancel a reload animation and instantly give me a reloaded gun.
Furthermore, Rare has made an update to achieve a gameplay style that does not include weapon swap animation canceling. So we the players have every right to call Rare out and say they failed.
Now it'd by nice if Rare chimed in and stated that they know of the issue and will look into it. But Rare is radio silent again and NOT LISTENING STILL!
@aithemed The problem is that Rare needs to limit EVERYONE to ONE gun.
Always a cutlass, and ONE gun. That would solve this permanently.
Macros can't bypass one gun at a time in inventory.
@boomtownboss said in Double gun still exist:

Yes they do.... Every single one i've played has it in some form. I don't play any of the games you listed, but I am 99% certain that they have animation canceling. I've never played a shooter that made you wait they entire reload animation before the gun was considered "relaoded" for instance(other than SoT before they fixed it).

Seriously.... whatever man. My point is Rare made an update explicitly to fix this and failed. They nerfed the sword and has it's animations play out non stop and the guns they FAILED. That's the point. IDC what other games you play and what exploits you perform in those games. In this game, this exploit was pointed out by the Devs. Joe Neat, the executive producer of the game, he himself pointed it out and said its going away. And as it stands right now... It is still here. So congratulations to you I guess.

Maybe? They succeeded in adding a delay to shooting 2 guns because it used to be near instant. Now you can only increase the shot speed slightly with animation canceling. Not a big deal.

You can animation cancel the sword too you know?(you can actually do way more crazy stuff like bypass the lunge slow and ground) You can animation cancel almost everything in this game including shovels to increase dig speed fyi.

Lol by your definition of "exploit" i'm 100% certain that you exploit SoT and all the games you play as well. w/e though. It's just funny to me that so many of you are so ignorant about such a basic part of video games.
Also unsuprisingly found this R6 animation cancel with a quick search lol

That player that you described that learns all the details? That's always been me.
Ever since I played the OG retail Counter-strike (for first-person shooters) and Super Street Fighter 2 The New Champions (for fighting games), I pay attention. For the former, I learn about line of sight, flanking routes, ambush points, cover spots, weapon damage, accuracy, aiming mechanics, and coordinated team communication and strategy (like coordinating fire to bring down a target twice as fast - very useful in SoT) - just like a real soldier might, among other things; for the latter, it was always about combos, setups, traps, and frame information - not as useful in SoT, but you might be surprised.
Knowledge really is power. 👨🏫

Yes, it would solve the problem, but you have to ask yourself - is it the best way to solve this problem?
I would argue that, no, it's not - if anything, it's the extreme solution. Furthermore, it limits player options, and in an open sandbox-style game, that's probably the last thing that you should do.
People are way overreacting to the double gun thing. In my experience as a double gunner, I die to the sword the most out of any other weapon... that and the blunderbuss.
What hurts me the most is I see a lot of strawmen on both sides of the argument. People who are against double gunning/negative to Rare's double gun patch are all here saying that people who use exploits and double gun don't play games for fun. THAT IS NOT TRUE!! We do play games for fun, we just have a different definition of what fun is. Fun to us is competing and maxing out our potential in the game, whether that means using animation cancels or not. Part of the fun is to see ourselves get better at the game and beat players that we used to not be able to beat when we weren't as skilled. In my opinion, learning exploits is a part of learning the game itself, because in so doing you learn more things about the movement and how animations work etc. The reason I could figure out how to the DGE 10 minutes after they patched is because I am dedicated to learning the game inside and out. I know exactly how the movement works in the game and how to make it work for me instead of against me. To me, that is fun; and that is how all competitive players should think. Like it or not, the DGE is part of the game, whether intended to be or not. If it is a part of the game, a player should not be demonized for using it.
Now, to you who say that anti double gunners just need to "get gud," you are not making this any better. In fact, you are making it worse because you are just proving the stereotype double gunners have made for themselves. The anti double gunners want what we all want: a fair and fun game to play.

No. That is not what was explicitly stated or said... this is:
The different weapons that we have have all been balanced - all been tuned - so that you have to do multiple shots, they have different damage, different range, etc... but, we never intended for there to be a one-shot kill player to player in Sea of Thieves.

@galactic-geek Every sandbox has boundaries - it's a sandbox, not the Sahara. If the issue can't be resolved by any other means (which is growing increasingly apparent with every update), then limiting the slots to one melee and one gun makes total sense. It's difficult to argue that double gunning significantly alters the sandbox gameplay in this game.
@entspeak Double-gunning does not; the double gun exploit, however, does. Do not confuse the 2 terms.
