Nerf Alliance Ship Spawns

  • It happens far too often when you sail into a fort on a single boat, and wipe out all alliance ships at the fort. Well, they are allowed to spawn very close due to alliance. Last night our crew had this and destroyed two allied ships, and had to sink them both three times before we could finish the fort.

Having an alliance is fine but why should they continually be allowed to spawn so close to the fort because of other alliance ships? Odds are already stacked against you as a single ship yet the enemies can keep rolling back with no consequence for sinking.

  • I don't think this has anything to do with being in an Alliance. I've experienced, multiple, multiple times in the past 2 months, ships spawning just a couple grids away on the map after being sunk, none of which were in alliances.

In the past, I thought there was a mechanic to spawn ships further and further away from where they were sunk, but that doesn't appear to be the case anymore. Ships continually spawn within 2-3 minutes of where they were last sunk. Can make it frustrating when you have the same ship coming back a half dozen times or more.

  • @daddy-sanctus I think it still does try to place them as far away as possible, however it will also try to spawn the ship far away from other ships. This ends up with some weird cases where it will spawn a sunk ship close to the crew that sank it.

  • Welcome to fort battles my friend. This is what really made the first pirates on the seas cut their teeth. This was the game at its best. Made turning in the loot that much more satisfying. When you’d lose the fort and watched them sail away it was not frustrating for there can be only one winner. This made the tales we all tell that much better.

  • Fear not, for there is good news! If they are so quick to return, then ample supplies be not in their favor! 😏

  • @realfickface

Well, they are allowed to spawn very close due to alliance.

    No, no they are not.

However as you are sinking multiple ships, the spawn location selector might consider all other spawn locations as currently occupied due to other ships spawning there, causing a ship or two from the alliance to conveniently spawn close to you.

It's pure coincidence by inevitability, there's no mechanic in this game that allows alliance ships to spawn close to each other, every ship is treated as an individual ship, regardless of what happens in the game, no exceptions.

  • @sweltering-nick According to Rare posted in 2018, it is the case that they spawn closer to alliance ships see here: https://www.seaofthieves.com/forum/topic/69149/mega-thread-alliances/2

"Spawn Distance - If a crew in the alliance is sunk, they will have their ship spawn in closer proximity to the rest of the alliance."

  • honestly we need more punishments for sinking. If i sink you twice and you come back again, what makes you think you'll kill me? most of the time ships are within stone throw distance. And coming back with no consequences is really irritating

  • @baronbrr what if they do end up sinking you though? Besides it’s excellent practice for both ship and personal combat.

The seas are for all who sail it. The forts are for those who are willing to take it.

  • @k1lroyw4sh3r3 Then hats off to them for risking it all and finding the weakness's in the other crew.

That's odd, because i have never spawned "close to my alliance" after sinking... Ever. Strokes beard

Not even when the feature was new... I suppose it's one of those things that are meant to work in theory, but due to interfering game mechanics, don't work in practice. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

  • @baronbrr The problem with this is unfair advantages. The alliance ships already have an advantage in being allianced which I am not complaining about. But they should not get another advantage in closer spawns. If my ship sinks I usually spawn far away yet these alliance ships come back within 3 minutes.

  • Many pirates learned the trick of scuttling rather then sinking. You tend to pop closer to the area you went down in.

  • Idk why you are crying @RealFickFace
Sounds like a lot of fun to me.

  • @realfickface

It's a seabox. You also have advantage over solo sloop when you are a crew of 2, 3 or 4.
It's a MP game, it's all about player organisation.

  • @K1LROYw4sH3R3 @Baronbrr

We once had to fight back a Brigantine 11 times, thst was before the, spawn more far away fix.
They came back within the next 5 minutes 11 times.
We had serious resource problems as the respawn of supplies at the fort was not that fast.
We fought the waves and max one was done until they attacked again.
Was a great battle tbh. we won.
They still attacked even while we were selling stuff already :-)
    Was fun and challenging.

Some weeks ago attacked an A10 Galleone at FotD. We made a mistake and got sunk by fort keg.
They were very good shooters and such, but bad at ship combat and maneuvering.
We came back, sunk them, got all the loot.
In hand to hand combat we had lost all the time, but ship to ship they stand no chance.

  • @bugaboo-bill Players not in an alliance should be given close spawns to if that's the case. I usually do not sink taking forts but there's no point in sinking 2-3 allianced boats for them to roll back in 2-3 minutes endlessly. They should have no advantage with spawns when compared to non allianced ships.

  • @realfickface

Agree, but like other say i have also not made this experience.
Maybe it was just bad luck they spawned so close all the time.
    Idk.

  • I can understand where some players come from when ships respawn close. I also think that’s what great about it. You made yourself an enemy.

You know your going to have an exhilarating session. In only wish that when this happens all players involved play in a good hearted sporting manner and keep the ugly ill mannered trash talk out.

Back in the early days I battled a galleon at a fort while solo on a sloop. Long story short. The crew was impressed with how I battled them that we ended finishing the fort together and they gave me some loot.

Not all close respawns end bad.

  • @k1lroyw4sh3r3 Again, you are misunderstanding my grievance. I am not complaining about ship battles. In fact that is my favorite part of the game. But when you win a battle, the other ships are meant to be penalized for sinking. The alliance spawns are broken and allow the ships to avoid any penalty for sinking.

This results in not a challenging battle on the sea but 2-3 ships constantly coming back every couple minutes and needing to sink them again. So my crew sinks 2-3 alliance ships and they spawn within an island or two for a quick return. Yet, if I sink I spawn half way across the map! This is broken and gives alliances an advantage in the game on top of their already power in numbers advantage. I thought most on this forum were all for a level playing field.

  • @realfickface I understand the grievance. However they took the time to form the alliance so your already out numbered.

I’ve been on a server with a three ship alliance sailing together just decimating all the random ships in their path was a sight to behold and one to fear I tell ya.

Spawning closer may have also been a choice made by the developer to allow alliance betrayal to be settled faster?
