Rain

  • Pretty simple. Rain should be a weather condition like storms and fog banks. It wouldn't move the wheel or damage the ship, it'd just be rain.

    The rain doesn't damage the ship or turn the wheel. The wheel turning is due to the surface currents caused by the wind pushing against the rudder, and the wheel spins with the rudder. The ship is damaged by large waves, also caused by the wind, slamming into the hull with enough force to break some of the planks. Additional damage is caused by lightning, which is also not rain. What the rain does do is put out fires, create ambiance, fill the ship with water, and mask sights and sounds. It's not just a simple rainstorm.

  • The Wilds would be cool with a light rain without the other effects of the storm.

  • @ultmateragnarok I think he just means a Rainstorm feature without the current Storm and Wave system. Currently we have (As far as Weather Effects);

    • Fog, which can be seen from a distance and is a localized area that blocks the ability to see things from far away.
    • Storms, which you already described perfectly, but are also marked by a moving localized Cloud that can be seen pretty much all across the map.
    • We do have Volcanoes and Earthquakes, but those are localized to Islands in the Devils Roar.

    I think what he is asking for is a more dynamic weather effect like night and day, that might either effect the whole map or even parts of it I guess, where its JUST raining. More of an ambience (with I assume) the added challenge of filling the ship with water, but perhaps at a slower rate, hearing thunder but no lightning or just extremely low chance of lightning compared to a storm. No massive waves just normal waves. Essentially just a weaker version of the storm.

    I cannot say I am opposed to such an addition, Rain visually looks cool but it would be nice to have it occur without a constant threat of danger (outside of the other dangers on the Sea) Not sure if it would be a Rain all across the sea or be just a new cloud addition to the map where you could see a smaller Rain cloud that indicated the smaller storm compared to the big hurricane.

    I assumed it was a post complaining about the effects of the current storm, given some of the wording. A lighter storm which acts more like the fog banks, drifting across the map in a general direction rather than bouncing off of the Shroud like the current storm, would be a nice thing to see. It could gradually change with the region, too, such as dropping ash alongside the rain in the Devil's Roar, or even just changing color slightly based on where it is due to picking up water. It overlapping with fog would be a very interesting thing to see, too.

  • @ultmateragnarok I think the current storms are great, but I would like to see light rain as a separate thing.

    Ok, thank you for clearing that up. I think light rain would be a great addition, it could even be triggered by certain events sometimes, such as some rare variant of sea creature, or have specific things you find in it. Perhaps a low chance for a stormfish.

  • @ultmateragnarok Can you think of any other weather effects you'd want? The only other obvious one is snow, but we don't have a snow region.
