Find a way to make Tall tales better fit in the Adventure Mode

  • When I first discovered Tall tales, it was a blast !
I was wondering if I was really playing Sea of Thieves as it was like doing quest in 100 times better.
The quest were full of lore, secret caves, puzzle, fights and cinematics.

But Tall tales feels too separates from the main game.
Moreover, most of the PvP interactions are frustrating when you are doing a Tale :
The defender can loose all its progression of the Tale and the Attacker (if I'm not wrong) can't sell the intermediate Tale trinket.

I have two solutions to suggest :

    • Make a map event when a crew trigger a Tale.

    • Have a mean to call a real players "mercenary" crew to protect you from other players when you are doing a Tale.
The mercenary crew would be rewarded with golds once the Tale completed.

  • @rakan-le-rouge how does it feel too seperate from the game? i do not relate. also pvp interactions are easily avoidable so i also do not relate, plus im experienced enough to take them out even if i have to, although a strat you could use is the old, hide the tale item on the island then lets go fight, that way if you die, you can just go back and continue the tale. tall tales do not take long to do, however i dont think i have ever lost progression on a tale so i cannot relate.

Make a map event when a crew trigger a Tale.

what does this mean? please elaborate.

Have a mean to call a real players "mercenary" crew to protect you from other players when you are doing a Tale. The mercenary crew would be rewarded with golds once the Tale completed

??? you can do this, with the ally flag. but otherwise, a call mercenary thing would work both ways, i feel like most of the time they would come to kill you. plus tall tales themselves dont reward the main crew much gold so where is this gold supposed to be coming from? cause i mean 3k for them to protect you is a waste, they might aswell do their own. also doesnt this seperate tall tales from the main game even more?

    How to explain...
I have the feeling you make a choice at the begining of your play if you will play normal Sea of thieves or Tales of Thieves.

In the first case, you will do some forts kraken, meg, skelly ships, pvp battle, or monthly quests.

But in the second case, you want anything but encountering other players, you are in your own world with this beautiful places/new mechanics/puzzles.

I think there should be a way to make Tall taller and normal players interact more in new and interesting ways ^^.

  • @rakan-le-rouge interesting, now i understand what you mean, and true, usually when i do do a tall tale i think im gonna do one before i actually log in, but really i have only been logging in lately soley to do them, and i usually end up doing other stuff aswell. for me i dont really care about encountering other players, im pretty confident as a pvp player. and usually people are friendly. and i do think it would be cool if there was a tall tale that required like 2 crews to complete, although if they were to do this, they would need to add some sort of matchmaking thing, cause finding crews to do stuff like this is a pain. people are ok with joining alliances, cause they still get to do what they wanted to do. it took me forever to get all the skull throne commendations, cause people never cared enough, they all wanted to continue doing their own thing. so if something like this were added, although it would be cool, they would have to make it so it can still be done solo, but maybe if done with more than one crew, you get more gold or rewards for it.

i actually really like that idea, if there was a tall tale that rewarded teamwork by doubling the reward, although you can still do it solo.

  • I like the idea of player mercenaries who protect TT players for a fee.

I dislike the idea of TTs being on PvE servers.

Some of the most exciting fights I've had have been while trying to protect my precious TT items from some bloodthirsty PvP sweats.

I've abandoned more than one to focus on revenge after being sunk/robbed too. Obviously that means no TT completion that session, but if I log off later having fought for a few hours, that's also a fun way to spend an evening.

I tend to log in with a general plan, but what you are actually going to do depends on who is there. It's like going out drinking - you might plan on just having a quiet pint in the pub, but that doesn't mean you're definitely not going to be stumbling around shirtless and drunk at 6 AM after being thrown out of a nightclub. Plans change. Change with them.

    How to explain...

I have the feeling you make a choice at the begining of your play if you will play normal Sea of thieves or Tales of Thieves.

This, in my opinion, is incorrect. This is due to the ability of the players to put down both a Tall Tale & a regular voyage. One is not limited by game design to do only one or the other.

But in the second case, you want anything but encountering other players, you are in your own world with this beautiful places/new mechanics/puzzles.

This is exactly what I want, this is exactly what I paid for. I paid to run into other players, good or bad interactions. I find it quite fun fending off players, I also find relatively easy to enjoy the scenery and mechanics of the Tall Tale as well.

I think, in general, people take this game way to seriously. Losing loot or failing a mission shouldn't get the reaction people give when they fail. Stop taking this game so seriously. Join in the fun, rob a ship, and relax.

  • I would add something on this topic :

I think Tall Tales are and normal quests are have too much differences.
In one case, you are having a wonderful adventure through the lore and in the other case, you are just doing basic things in order to get more golds and rep.

For me, you should't vote for a Tale but discover how to trigger it by yourself.
This idea is aiming to give each Island of the game a related Tale in order to learn more about its lore.
