Supply crate on new ship spawns.

  • As a solo slooper, it would be a huge help to have an empty supply crate spawn on your ship. If not, can we have the option to purchase an empty one from the shipwright?

  • @dieseldinho Do you mean a storage crate?

That's what he meant. I too would love this. As somebody who also solo sloop/brig a lot, those storage crate is an ASAP item I look for immediately. Really helps a solo player loot resources easier.

  • @saws-n-sins It really does.

I mean you can find one on a beach

  • @ClosingHare208 is right. Make even a slight effort to explore nearby island's beaches and shallows after you leave the outpost, and I will virtually guarantee that within 3 islands, you will have a rowboat, a storage crate, a supply crate, a treasure chest, additional loot, or any combination of the above.

  • I like the idea of being able to purchase one from an outpost.

  • I wish the merchants sold crate voyages (fruit, planks, or cannonballs)... The crates are somewhat rare anyway, but even moreso since the only way to get a voyage with a crate is randomly, from a quest-in-a-bottle...

  • @dieseldinho @Alymon @BactaTankBill

Purchasing storage and/or resource crates at outposts, or anywhere for that matter, gives older players an advantage over newer ones. That pirate legend crew with 30 million gold between them won't care to throw some out on a few crates, but that new crew of two players with a total of maybe 5 thousand definitely will. As for giving them out for free, just go to random islands. The beaches love to give them out there.

Yeah, I mean, I don't think it's a big deal to sail around and find one, but I don't see the problem with offering players the ability to spend say 100 gold to get 1 at an outpost (and only 1).

  • @alymon

Players at the beginning of the game spend their time scraping for every bit of gold they can get. Players as far ahead as some are now do not. Some don't have enough to throw away 100 gold every time they spawn or sink.

  • @ultmateragnarok I agree that supplies should not be sold in crates outright. I was talking about the voyages (and the empty crate associated with them). I'd like to see the crate voyages get some small chance to show up for sale from the merchant (instead of solely relying on notes in bottles). Like 10% would be fine, just give us a chance of getting one from our starting outpost... Not super critical, of course. I just think it'd be nice to be able to work toward those particular titles with purchased voyages.

I'm with you when it comes to buying actual supplies though, that should never happen

  • @bactatankbill

They do, actually. Animal runs request filled resource crates and gunpowder barrels as some of their items, and like the cages you can get from them you can get empty crates from that. Cargo runs do not give such crates, only plants, bottles and cloth.

  • @ultmateragnarok really? wow I must have terrible RNG... I've only ever gotten animals and gunpowder barrels from them...

  • @bactatankbill

They used to be very, very rare. The update that made them more common on the shores of islands also made them far more common in quests.

  • @dieseldinho would be nice, yes...
But I would be fine with just a treasure chest...don't know what they called in english, the ones where you can put 3 skulls or so in

  • @ultmateragnarok I'm fairly certain that the retail build never had banana (now fruit), wood, or cannonball crates as part of the actual purchased voyages sold by the merchant alliance. You can find the crates randomly, or you can acquire them from the merchant only after obtaining a message in a bottle or parchment from a barrel that is specifically for that crate. I earned my 250 merchant voyages complete commendation before they lowered the achievements months ago and also long before I finished 250 for the order of souls or gold hoarders. Even after I completed 250 animal runs, I've continued to do them. I have never seen an animal run include anything other than animals and gunpowder kegs.

Around a year ago, or maybe even more, a thread was started that talked about the possibility of buying these crates, empty of course, to use as utility and help stock ships. It was suggested that these crates should be included in normal merchant voyages, giving the possibility of voting on an animal run and possibly being able to collect a crate from the merchant as part of that voyage. Someone then said they tested that before release and it was removed, but not completely. They still wanted it in the game but not the way they originally designed. So they put them in the message in a bottle system.

I was not around before the retail release so I can't confirm that these crates were a part of the originally designed merchant voyages, and at the same time I can't confirm they aren't a part of them even now. It could be possible they are included and I've just never seen one, but I find it unlikely with as many animal runs I've voted on. That includes countless voyages I instantly canceled because it wanted all three types of animals, numerous pigs, or not enough gold animals, or even when we had a ship full of chickens and snakes and needed the correct voyage to sell them off. Four of us with three voyages a piece and possibly three more available to buy, trying to get a good voyage with a high number of gold snakes and/or chickens, and if we didn't, it was instantly cancelled and another voted on.

  • I've done lots of merchant alliance, never came across one I bought that included a crate; only those I found.

As for starting with or buying a storage crate, I think it would make the game a bit easier again; if you want a lot of supplies, you'd better work for it or just visit a coupe of islands and have a storage crate for each type of supply in no-time.
Those crates aren't just for getting supplies quicker on board, a crate with canon balls at the top deck or one with planks on the lowest, makes it even more easier for galleons to come out on top.

If you feel it's tedious going back-and-forth on the outpost, try combining picking up plants &c with getting supplies - at least it'll be tedious and profitable ;).
