My friend and I spent 15 minutes taking on a megalodon in our sloop. We were out of wood but one of us was bailing the ship to keep afloat. We killed the megalodon and went to collect our treasure and get to the outpost that we were next to and the kraken spawned. It killed us and sunk our ship. We understand that the kraken can spawn randomly but that was ridiculous. We couldn't grab the treasure from the water because the kraken injures you as soon as you jump in. We spent 15 minutes of gameplay killing the megalodon only for the pay off to be the kraken killing us. There definitely needs to be some sort of system in place that stops the kraken from spawning within a certain distance or time from the death of the megalodon. Was so frustrating and is just adding to the list of things that annoy me about this game. Video

Found your first error. I'm not a betting man, but something tells me to put money on you having fresh spawn amount of supplies. If you are running out of supplies during these encounters, you aren't properly supplying your ship.
First, I'd recommend draining the outpost you spawn on. Second, I would tell you to jump off your ship with no supplies when you see floating barrels. Drain the barrels and mermaid back to your ship. The ship will be fine as long as its set on a straight course with no islands.
@nabberwar Yeah, it's definitely something I need to get better at. Was just rather annoyed that the kraken spawned right after we killed the meg. Just frustrating is all. But thanks for the help man (:
