NO. The reason why the game has been getting attention is because of him! Sure Shrouded Spoils helped, but the marketing was SUMMIT! Thousands of people have at least said they bought the game because of him in dono!
If it's only because of the update, why would News media, other streamers and YouTubers only play or give attention to the game "JUST NOW"! Why did they not give a damn 2 months ago, maybe more; when the update came out??

And why do you guys even hate summit?? He is not toxic to new players! Do you guys even watch his streams or just parts of it??
He is not toxic to new or just regular players. He is however not very happy with "PVE" pirates! that take up the whole server and farm the game! It is unfair and is not the intended way to play the game. That is why Summit could wreck them so easily, they don't have any Player combat experience!

Remember when Sea of Thieves was completely down to its bare bones in population, the View count in Twitch was a thousand on a good day. Summit generate 50k viewers on a good day at 1am...
Just saying, If that view count drops again game would be back to its norm. Reality
@blkseal Fun fact: his viewers most of them have not even heard of SoT. They support summit because he is not playing battle royale anymore. Donations are always asking how the game works, and that they ought the game because of him.
Let's say that yes, his viewers are SoT players... Why would they not just go to streamers like Alactargaming or Mix?? They play the game as much as summit does?? Why was the Sea of Thieves category running 3 digit numbers before summit played the game?
Quite frankly people have been enjoying the PVP aspect of the game. If you guys have been actually watching his streams, he is not being toxic unless the guys were being toxic first; if it's a server full of PVE cheaters; or if the guy is stream sniping. If anything he teaches default players.
@guepard4 Agreed. Summit however was the marketing, which is pretty much the most important thing here. Look at the past updates, it didn't have much attention because there was a lack of marketing.
And you can't say that Shrouded Spoils is just a much better update..

@reysstereo I also believe most people here don't read, I am an iliterate myself, but the thing is that I rather have you make a structured reply that orderly responds to everyone you want to respond, rather than making 20 replies to every sinle post that was ever made. The later makes it harder to read than just a big chungus of a post, imo.

I can't be 100% sure, but once he started playing this game again lot's of people came back to the game also new players, if you look at discord channel right now there is lots of players playing right now, on last youtube SOT video Joe said that there was a lot of new players coming to the game, I don't think they came just of nowhere. Compared when summit didn't played the game there was about 5 channels full at max. When summit doesn't stream game get's about 7k viewers and when he didn't stream there was like 200 people, ofc the last patch they added got some people attention. I completely agree that devs need to add RIGHT NOW at least some minor stuff, for ex. streamer mode ofc I don't know how hard or easy it's done, but feels like they could make it already, they need keep adding content to the game a little bit more frequently or at some point game will be "dead" again with 200 viewers on twitch. There is lot's of hype right now around SOT because everyone is playing it, but it's not gonna last long if nothing is going to be added to the game.
Summit might be bringing new or old people into the game, but I hope people have enough self-worth and personal opinion that they don't have to leave a game because someone they don't play with does.
If summit climbed a mountain Im sure a lot of people probably would as well but if he jumped off it I hope no one follows.

There are a lot of double-gun players on base-cosmetic ships who apparently have no clue how to actually fight beyond their one-trick pony. They’re mostly terrible at the game once you decide to fight double-fire with double-fire and easy to beat.
Yesterday my two-man sloop sank two three-man brigs without cosmetics 100% crewed by double-gunners twice at a fort. They never even tried barrels or canons (except for once when we anchored them and they were stuck). Then they never returned (presume they switched servers).
Apparently means more meat for the grinder. So good on the streamer guy I suppose! Makes the forts a little more interesting at least!
I think it's great Summit is playing SOT.
Lately when I log in SOT into an open game, all of a sudden I noticed new rooky sailors playing it for the first time. I definitely think it has to do with Summit streaming SOT.
Like Joe said in the latest dev video, it's a good thing for SOT that new players come in and more streamers play SOT, and I agree. Even if Summit will move on to another game, which at some point will happen annyway. Probably a lot of his followers will follow him too and leave SOT. But also a 'few' will stay and his viewer numbers are so high that a 'few' is still a lot!
People who are concerned about the lack of content in SOT don't really understand whats SOT about. SOT is not primary about the content it's about the story's and adventures! And thats exactly how Summit is playing SOT and his viewers loving it!

And about toxit players comming to the game because Summit is toxic. I've seen some of Summits streams and did not see him toxit so I hope it will be okey. But if Summits viewer base plays the pvp focust playstyle the way Summit does, be prepared the sea will become a much more dangerous place. But that doen't have to be a negative thing, its just something to be aware of.

Omg!! Seriously? Summit? Who?? Lol knows nothing about the game! Pirate legend means little now with the boosts available along with Athena’s. I finished both legend and Athena 10 before cursed sails came out, did the real grind!!! 107 Athena chest handed in to obtain lvl 10 and all had animals you had to deliver. No cargo dumps lol. I’m on console, it’s easy to think your a good player if your on pc, try be competitive on console! We never get sunk unless we are hacked or someone who is ment to be guarding the sorrows chest fails. Our crew is keen to stream but won’t due to the pc hackers we encounter constantly. Not to mention the lagg that is created from pc players been in proximity of a console player. Double guns lol that’s a thing we used to a long time ago, people think it’s new. I challenge anyone in sea of thieves to console to console battles!! You will not succeed, I guess it’s just easier to go pc and pretend your good. Who is Summit lol what a joke! I have 4 gun crews that I captain, some are mixed pc console. We use our pc players to prevent the advantages of other pc players. Let’s suggest fixing the pc/console problem before anything else, it’s the only way the game will truly progress. I see you have good ideas my friend but a fix before advance is required otherwise the game will die.
@reysstereo he is on pc that’s a major advantage, most average to below average players transfer to pc because of that. Let’s see him on console lol 😂 he knows nothing!

One I feel that being this aggresive gets you nowhere. You keep saying the console/PC issues. Please make a list and put them in the feedback thread without all the personal input, that way they can easily read over what problems you have been having. Hope to see you on the Seas.
Summit is A reason not THE reason.
Rare has done a good job trying to put out content at a reasonable pace (I think 2 months between updates on average). So, it can only get better from here.
Another reason, sales on MS game passes for Xmas/Winter. People that play the game from the pass. They play. Get bored. Update comes out. New pass. Play again. It is the number 1 game for their pass, I think.
Twitch is advertising. I don't mind Summit doing what he does because he is not hacking or breaking game mechanics. He has a play style. That's all. And some newbies are learning and trying to sneak on people's ships. It has happened a lot to me and I thank him for that because more people want to play the game and in different ways.
I still meet friendly people. I play on a fleet with a lot of people that have been playing since day one.
You get people that are hardcore (since day one).
Moderate (on and off each update).
New (Just recently purchased the game. Learning new mechanics).
There is no data out there but due to the Christmas season and the Shrouded Spoils, it probably brought in a lot of people. And now, Rare has an opportunity to keep players interested with the Arena (because arena based games are the rave now, right?!). Rare has a method to their madness. If they succeed, MS will pool more resources and adventure mode will be that much better (and they are still working on Adventure mode too right now, so).
The updates and the game are what people are playing for. Streamers just advertise and entertain.
@vincent-xiii it’s not aggressive mate. It’s a laugh people are having( experienced people on this game) about new streamers who use old dated techniques. Knowone really cares about streaming it’s a fad. My reply was intended to highlight suggested things in the game need to be put on the back burner until the major issues In the game are actually resolved. People just want to play, that’s why we bought a gaming console right? Pc within a certain radius of a console player greatly effects the game play. This is the main issue believed to be a net code problem. So again game needs fixing not promotion or suggestions.
