Private servers

  • My wife and I quit playing almost a year ago. We like playing together, not with trolls and griefers. We thought after almost a year, you would have put in some options to play it alone but it seems you people get off on the toxic community you've built. Look, I don't care if you give no progression to people in private servers just as long as we can enjoy the beautiful sailing sim you've crafted with just ourselves and the a.i. for company. I don't care if you make it where we can't join public servers with our characters after being in a private server. We just want to enjoy the game we stupidly paid full price for by ourselves. At this point, I wish we could get refunds. Best we can do is to continue to make sure no one we know wastes a cent on this troll fest. Fix this and alot of opinions would flip.

  • This is the forum, we don't do things like this. Anyway, this might be a beautiful game and and fun sailing those seas, but this game is no way meant to be a "beautiful sailing sim".

  • We need that because I’m fed up of hassle in seas.

My wife and I quit playing almost a year ago.

So you never started playing? (the game came out in March 2018)

We like playing together, not with trolls and griefers.

It's been discussed to death but people playing the game as is intended (you know a pirate game) isnt trolling nor is it griefing.

We thought after almost a year, you would have put in some options to play it alone but it seems you people get off on the toxic community you've built.

There are options to play solo, just not to play offline, it's an online co-operative pirate game. It says so right on the tin.

Look, I don't care if you give no progression to people in private servers just as long as we can enjoy the beautiful sailing sim you've crafted with just ourselves and the a.i. for company.

It's a Co-Operative pirate game. I'd link you to the site for sailing simulator (a real game on steam) but I'm pretty sure that'd upset the Mods.

I don't care if you make it where we can't join public servers with our characters after being in a private server. We just want to enjoy the game we stupidly paid full price for by ourselves. At this point, I wish we could get refunds.

Should have figured that out when you quit the first time, as in most countries you can refund anything within 14 or so days. Then again it's not on Rare that you bought this game thinking it was something else, the trailers and the discription on this site are pretty clear on what it is.

Best we can do is to continue to make sure no one we know wastes a cent on this troll fest. Fix this and alot of opinions would flip.

You do know that tho this game has some fantasy elements there are no Trolls in this game?

I see a lot of people proclaiming that if only Rare would make the game the way they feel it should be that things would be better and Rare would get all the money!
I'm kind of glad that Rare chose to make a game they wanted to make in stead of another COD/PUBG/BF/Fortnite that wants ALL THE MONEYS!

There is a thing that's known as making enough money and having an audience, if you're not part of that then that's fine. If you're not into a pirate game don't buy Sea of Thieves the same rings true for so many things. If you don't like blood and gore then don't buy God of War, if you don't like superheroes don't buy Spider-Man if you don't like age spanning strategy games don't buy Civilization.
I can go on for a long time. Clearly you didn't read what this game was about before buying it and you're as salty as the seas about that but don't blame others for it.

  • I’ve had this game on the day of its release

  • @theunionjames 😡

  • So..... you bought a game about being a pirate. Then complain when people actually act like pirates. Hmmmmmm.... yeah!

  • @solestone563412 Is it a reasonable request to set aside resources for something not advertised and verry few people actually ask for?

Private servers require Rare to set aside a complete server shard just for one or two people which is ludicris.
Developing the game to run 100% locally would also take away resources from content people who bought the game for what it is (a pirate game) so no it's not a reasonable request.

Also, toxic? I've seen some toxic people but those are far and few between, mostly little children that yell and screen into the mic as soon as you kill them sink their ship and steal the loot (you know like thieves on the sea)
On the forums I've seen discussions yeah but that's encouraged, nothing toxic, but some people say I'm toxic just because I try to prove them wrong and play the game as intended, oh well.

  • I would happily pay 100 bucks a month for a private server that I could populate with friends and play a real pirate game instead of the mindless murder game that this is some days and I'm sure many more people would too.
The whole "it's a pirate game" excuse is old and lame, pirates didn't just mindlessly kill every other pirate on sight.

    *Worm can open

  • I'm sorry, but this game isn't a sailing simulator with a side of optional piracy. Its kinda a complete package.

  • First problem to me is that all of us who have earned our titles and cosmetics have done it the hard way fighting through pvp and looking over our Shoulder constantly. Then there's going to be private servers where you can earn everything uncontested? Makes everything really pointless doesn't it? So obviously the twist would be ok you get your private server but we will ramp up the A.I to adjust for the lack of player risk..then everyone comes to the forum to cry.. Much like they do already, that they wasted time just to get sank by the meg/skeleship/kraken, atleast on some occasions you can reason with other players and form an alliance, really this is designed as a online multiplayer so all the pve players go private so they don't get attacked, the pvp players get arena.. Leaving adventure mode completely dead, don't get me wrong here though I like most people started as a pure pve player and ran away everyone all the way up to pirate legend, that's when I decided to learn pvp, watched many streamers, figured out strategy and got good, now I pve and pvp when needed and it opens up the gameplay so much more it makes things alot more exciting, obviously that's not everyones idea of fun, I'd be up for private servers so people can arrange their own games like skullball, ship battles between friends etc but I think it would kill off the game with noone needing to go to adventure, unless they make it so you can only get titles, commendations and deblooms in adventure? With people already saying the game feels dead or empty as it is, making another spin off mode might be the nail in the coffin for the game

  • Fascinating that people read Sea of Thieves when they "stupidly paid full price" for the game and then consider the people who steal from them trolls and griefers. Not everyone who steals from you is a troll or a griefer - though, sure, they do exist. But, having private servers would make it just Sea and not Sea of Thieves. What's the point?

  • @solestone563412 Then perhaps it was a bad idea to buy Sea of Thieves which the devs have constantly and from the beginning stated would be an online multiplayer world where people steal from you.

  • @solestone563412 Lol. Mistake. No. Sorry. The entire game concept is not a mistake. I think they did that intentionally. Naming it Sea of Thieves, marketing it the way they did. I don't think they did any of that by mistake.

  • @solestone563412 said in Private servers:

@hynieth Don't worry, Rare has the Server Space.

Do they? do you know how this works?
Generally you charge a company (like Rare, Square Enix, etc) a flat fee per server used, the more active uses the more servers used and the more servers used the higher the cost for maintaining those servers is going to be thus higher rates. Sure there's plenty of space in the server parks but you don't want to set aside 1 server per player extra just because they want to solo.

Yes, doing a separate non-PvP mode for 1 or 2 people would be ludicrous. But it wouldn't be "one or two people" because (as I said) Rare will only make non-PvP servers if it is financially attractive to do so.

And it's not, not just because of the above mentioned extra server cost but development cost too.

Nobody has a good argument against @jakesiege3777 idea because there is none.

    I argue:

    1. Expenses made just for people who bought the game for what it's not (sailing simulator)
    2. Development time rather used in other projects like additional content for those who actually bought the game for what it is.
    3. Seperating the community (rare has gone on record they don't want that).

The only reason (at all) for Rare not to create non-PvP servers is if there is no profit in it. And only Rare (and MS) can make that business call.

Not everything is tied to profit. This is art, you don't tell Vincent van Gogh to use classic stype methods of painting because you like that thing. You let him create and if you don't enjoy it you don't buy it.

The simple fact that people "attack" this perfectly reasonable, non-invasive request is because this community is either very toxic, very stupid or likely both.

So, you've resorted to calling this community both toxic and stupid because we play a pirate game where we can attack people and choose to do so? You sir have officially stepped across the line and I demand an appology otherwise we duel at dawn! I do not suffer such insults! Throws glove

Which is logical. SoT is the perfect Bullies playground. There are very few games where groups of aggressive players can gang up on "unwilling" individuals and murder and rob them. Bullies love this kind of aggression. Far more than fair fights against opponents who are eager to rumble. It is only to be expected that a game like SoT will attract the least attractive toxic character types.

So you're telling me that in a game called sea of thieves a game about pirates that's been advertised and sold as a pirate game where you can sail the seas with and against other bloodthirsty pirates.... We're not supposed to attack and rob another person?

Oh I'm sorry I didn't know we were playing My Little Pony island adventure. Sorry I'll uninstall right now.

  • @hynieth
Cannons weren't put on the ship for glamour and style. Anyone who thinks that no one would use cannons in an offensive on the attack manner are delusional.

  • @nabberwar No I've converted to the PvE Gods.
Those cannons are for shooting Flowers!

  • I'm quite glad you are leaving, when Rare starts adressing the real problem of SoT, which is lack of variety in the base quests to progress to pirate legend and an overhaul in the endgame content, people like you will become an irrelevant statistic. People that enjoy repetitive grindfests, like you, will be long gone and the new playerbase will start enjoying the pvp and emergent gameplay since the base game will have a stronger foundation for them to experiement in the sandbox as much as they want and not be bored.

  • @jakesiege3777

Ahoy there, whilst I can appreciate the desire to enjoy Sea of Thieves on private servers without the threat of other players present, I'm not sure that this is something we're likely to see given the many times that Rare have said how passionate they are about creating a unique online multiplayer experience. In my opinion, it's these encounters which are at the heart of the whole experience.

They're also a company who listens to the community and are well aware of the concerns raised by players.

The Sea of Thieves experience is one which is constantly changing, each content addition tilts the balance between friendly and not so friendly and certain mechanics and features have been added specifically to do this. It keeps the gameplay experience unpredictable and exciting - for example with Cursed Sails, there were many more reliable alliances, with Hungering Deep a 50% drop in ship to ship combat, with the Cursed Crews it likely swung the other way.
The game will continue to evolve and at the moment it's my experience that approaching other ships can go either way - alliances and friendly or they try and sink you,

As ever, if you encounter any behaviour on the seas which goes counter to the Pirate Code, please submit a report via Support.

I think one of the best things anyone in doubt of the type of game Sea of Thieves is intended to be can do, is to listen to this speech by Joe, from the Fun & Serious Games Festival in Bilbao, where they recently won the award for Best Family / Social Game.

  • I understand your frustration, but PvP is a part of this game, and everyone has their preferential style of play. I don't prefer PvP but there are others that do. So when my crew and I set sail to tackle the PvE aspects of this game we invite the possibility of encountering hostile players. I'm not saying this because I support grieving, trolling, etc. But of course not everyone who fires a cannonball in my direction is immediately pegged as a toxic griefer. Do they exist in this game? Most certainly yes.

Although personally it feels like the number of hostile players has dwindled since the release of Shrouded Spoils. Occasionally I will deal with an aspiring bloodthirsty pirate, but most of the time I'm met with docile crews going about their business. I'm not against the idea of private servers. However I understand that the likelihood of those coming into existence is pretty low. So I just play this wonderful game how I want to, with my head on a swivel.

  • @jakesiege3777
Hello Mr JakeSiege3777...i can understand your dissapointment , but the open world is just that what makes SOT so great. No , of course , i don't like Trolls either , i sail away or try a new game but i would NEVER let them decide that my game evening is over for me...
i read a lot of Pirates get dissapointed by the many Troll encounters they have , and everybody seem to have a different opinion on what Trolling really is...For some , chasing or stealing treasures is Trolling ,and actually that is just the part of the game...For me , Trolling is cheating like Spawncamping, or actually cheating like teleporting Pirates or invinsible Pirates , and Trolling is for me humiliating players with words that simply don't need to be uttered in this nor any other game...

But like i said , mostly i don't get trolled upon, although i carry the "best " features to become trolled at...i'm old , slow, not smart , very bad at Pvp and shipbattles and i'm also " equipped" with a heavy accent. That last part is mostly the trigger that fires the gun at me , in any other game it has forced me to never use the microphone again. In this game, however , an accent isn't a reason to be buried under a heap of verbal trash. On the contrary, for once , after almost 11 year ,my accent has become a bridgebuilder towards new and old players and thanks to that i have been able to make a lot new Friends or avoid a possible ambush just because people find the accent " cool"...

If i was you , i would try again, and try to find the specific hours in wich you get trolled upon, maybe there is a difference in the frequence of being trolled upon depending on the hours you play...

If i would put a percentage on the amount i became trolled upon, meaning spawncamping, cheating Pirates , or verbal humiliation then i would come to a 10 percent of happenings ,all the other 90 percent of the time is a real Joy to play this game , and no , i don't mean hippie Pirate time , in my sessions a lot of shots get fired without the need to cheat or verbal trash talk...

  • @solestone563412 only a complete tool would want a PvP only mode in a pirate game with 4 weapons and 3 ships or a PvE mode in a pirate game with 3 grindy repetitive fetch quests and an endgame that is just the basegame but titled "athena quest".

There is no way Arena works with the game as it is, too few weapons and not enough ship variance to allow playerss to really express themselves in combat, to be free to tackle it in a way that feels unique and satisfying to experiment with.

There is no way a PvE only mode would work, the grindy gameplay removed from emergent threat of dynamic encounters with players just shows how the current SoT experience is so evidently shallow.

  • @solestone563412 sagte in Private servers:

This is a reasonable request. There is also something to be said for creating non-PvP servers for little kids to use SoT as an explorations game and to learn teamwork (sailing).

Wrong. This is no kindergarden's educational. This is an action-adventure game in which players assume the role of a pirate exploring a vast open world of oceans and islands. From a first-person perspective, players sail ships, search for treasure, and engage in sea battles with rivals. On land, players can shoot and slash at skeleton-like creatures; enemies generally disappear with a wisp of smoke. At sea, players can shoot cannons at opposing ships, causing them to capsize and sink. During the course of the game, players' character can drink mugs of grog, resulting in a screen-blurring effect; belching and hiccup sounds are sometimes heard. Characters may also vomit after drinking too much grog; green vomit is sometimes seen dripping down the screen.
Therefore, it is for teens and not Bild Text

  • @jakesiege3777 I laughed when I saw this post. It is not against the rules to grief or troll in this game idiot. It is not toxicity either. I advise you and your wife play Minecraft because it seems Sea of THIEVES is not your game.

  • Just because ur not a pvper doesn’t mean you should play some other game.they like all other aspects of the game so what’s the big deal.i think there should be pve servers there would be a lot more people playing the game which is needed but then u will have the people who like pvp crying most games have both.just because it is a pirate game doesn’t mean it can only be pvp.let everyone enjoy the game their way.i love pvp but can do without in this game I like the adventuring part.when I want to play pvp I usually play cod or bf5.this debate will always go on seen it in wow and every other game that has them both.free country let people play how they want to

  • @bludhunter2321 sagte in Private servers:

i think there should be pve servers there would be a lot more people playing the game which is needed

    This is just your idea.

  • @jakesiege3777

Private servers are alluring to a lot of players. For different reasons; wether it is events or simply to play by your own without people interfering.

I have played on and off for over a year now, each time holding a different story or lesson because you learn how to play with/against others. I play passive, not shooting first, will sail towards you kind of pirate. I like playing music and screenshots of that kind of stuff. I dont seek out PVP and often go out of my way to avoid it when I do as I play by myself often. I dont want people not to do it, i just see it as an addition to the game.

It is the game; keeping your treasure safe until you turn it in. Even though I like exploring and not sinking, if i truly want to explore it doesn't really matter if that happens. I dont really care because I know the game gives me ample opportunity to fight back or achieve revenge. Having fun, trying different things and not trusting anyone but my crew (for the most part) has made this game so much fun for me. Yes, sinking sucks. Losing always does. But they beat you in a world using the same tools. Use them differently to beat them back.

There are plenty of people on the forums that dont mind playing in a larger crew so you can also gain more confidence in dealing with other players. Some see it as an issue, but really I think you should see it as a prepare for the worst but lets see what happens before we act kind of way.

Sea of Thieves is pretty magical when you just do your own thing while knowing how to deal with things that might interfere.

  • im just gonna quickly input what im guessing others have said,

this in my opinion would kill the game, it removes the need for pvp and thats what sea of thieves tries to offer, a MULTIPLAYER online experience, adding private servers would dwindle the need to learn how to pvp and altogether quickly kill this game, again in my opinion.

However, the announcement of the arena could be what your looking for, the switch up of pve and pvp based servers is going to be a massive change, this change wont occur till next year and i dont think it will stop pvp in pve servers as the pvp side will just be like from the trailer loading into a tdm for say or a capture the flag style fight where two teams have to grab the loot. I do believe this is what you appear to be looking for some style of server where there is less pvp, will there ever be servers without pvp, most likely with the update, will it happen everywhere, no as these seas be open and full of different ships and enemies.

  • From a PvP view is it really fun pvping against someone that doesn’t want to?thats why servers of both are needed so everyone has fun and the game grows.the game isn’t going to die if u have both types this way pvp now has challenges cause everyone on that server likes that.the only reason I can think of that PvP doesn’t want a pve server cause they want to beat up the ones that don’t pvp and take their loot an easy way out of having to do the stuff themselves.

  • @solestone563412 Will the islands be skellie free in Arena? There will be no environmental dangers in Arena? That would suck.

But, even if there aren’t any of those things, the Arena still fits the concept of Sea of THIEVES. A PvE mode does not.

  • If the OP desires a private server, they should just play at off peak hours. Sail for hours, clear forts, whatever, and not see another vessel for hours on end.
Middle of the night, or wee hours of the morning.

But if ya'lls quit a year ago then you've missed out on a lot.

  • alt text

  • @goedecke-michel You can't speak for everyone.

  • The game is called "Sea of Thieves" so by definition the sea is supposedly full of thieves. I've been playing solo and haven't had a problem. If anything there isn't enough thievery happening. I go to islands and complete voyages expecting someone to pop up up and attack me or try robbing me. I even show off all my loot and nothing. When something does develop I easily get away or out play them. This is after hundreds of hours of playing. You can't expect to be new to a game and excel at it off the bat. Also, getting robbed of your loot means nothing. The loot is worthless, and you're admitting that by stating you'd rather do the voyages completely offline without any benefit...
Why not do the mission online and just leave the loot where it is?

  • I would never play in a PVE server, but as long as it didn't take away from my experience, I have no problem with RARE implementing one. I have no desire to play with players who don't want to engage in PVP. I don't want their loot, I don't want to ruin anyone's fun.

Personally, I don't see how creating such a server would damage the game at all. If there's a population of players out there that want PVE only, however boring we may think that is, then it stands to reason that they will buy the game and increase RARE's coffers, allowing them to spend more money making everyone's game better. If there's not, then PVE servers won't happen.
