A way to fully repair ships.

  • As is we are able to board up holes and bucket out water which is sufficient enough for gameplay purposes, but what I would like to see is a way to fully repair your ship, because after a while all the boarded up holes start to look ugly.

What I'm thinking is, we should be able to do all the standard stuff we can do now (boarding holes) but there would also be an option to go to any Outpost and pull your ship up to the dock, talk to the shipwright and have the option of fully repairing our ships for a price.

The full repair option would take away all the boarded up holes and just make the ship look brand new.

It's a simple addition but I'm curious what people think of this idea.

  • @ii-pin3appl3-ii The ships do start to look pretty gnarly after a few voyages. I personally like how battle-worn the ship looks. It shows how many battles you have survived without sinking. If I come across a ship that has no indication of it's skins because it's covered in holes, I know not to mess with them!

  • @ionei-falcon I figure there are people that love the battle scars and heck I'm fine with a few.

I would simply appreciate the option to fully repair the ship. So that people that want those battle scars can keep them, while people that want the clean look don't have to sink or restart to get it.

  • @II-PIN3APPL3-II I would have to agree with @IOnEI-Falcon. The damage adds flavor and character to having all pristine ships.

I can attest to the certain prestige factor of having a badly battle worn ship. Many times my crew and I have sailed in to an outpost or up to an island to have other crews saying they know not to mess with you. Have even been asked if we could go sink a ship on the server harassing them.

I have seen others post that they would like to restore the look of their ships after skeleton fleet and player battles. Maybe they could implement the option if it was limited. Maybe once per session while playing on a server. That way ships do not end up all looking brand new all the time while giving players options.

  • What if we just had an option to disable the scarring of the ship hulls in the settings menu? When disabled, you wouldn't see scarring on any ship, including yours, but everybody else who enables it could still see it.

  • @ii-pin3appl3-ii sink it...then it's new 😉

  • @ionei-falcon the ship looks like the flying Dutchman from sailing lengend

  • @x-crowheart-x I'm not saying the ship being repaired automatically. I'm saying that people would have the option to repaired their ship for a price at a shipwright if they choose to.

People that like the scars can keep em while someone that doesn't just fully repairs it at an Outpost by talking to the shipwright at any outpost.

I realize this isn't really even anything important in terms of gameplay I just figure it would be a nice cosmetic choice, especially since we're getting Shrouded Spoils that's supposed to have a ton of new customization for ships, I figured it would make sense.

  • Scuttling will work to do this. I have used it several times when I want my ride ship shape.

I am with you. I think it is ok. That is what I said near the end of my post. I was not thinking it would be automatic either. Just said maybe allow once per server play session, but should be paid for.

Players should have choices. I can fully understand that players make cool ships and want to keep them looking great. I know that is why I take time to choose my sails and livery. I would also be fine if the option Rare decided on would be as often as you payed for it.

Paying for the repairs would naturally be at the shipwright. Also had a thought after my post this morning with the upcoming ship customization this kind of option makes a lot of sense and should be included. You and Rare have my vote on this.

@Calico-Montana scuttling would cause collected supplies to be lost. The idea would be to have a chance to make repairs and sail on with what is stocked up onboard.

  • What your thinking of is called a dry dock

  • @kin-h4chi I realize this. But considering there isn't one in SoT we could simply go to the only other option being the shipwright. The shipwrights are always designing and making knew stuff for ships, having a chat with any of them clarifies this.

  • @x-crowheart-x One thing I can always appreciate from your replies is they are always good arguments and I always feel more enlightened after we chat. Thanks, mate!

  • @ii-pin3appl3-ii

I know I made that suggestion about a month or so ago. I was bumping the post and giving information

  • @kin-h4chi a dry dock could be pretty cool actually, even just seeing a ship sitting being built. This could be a way for rare to drop hints on new ship customizations too in the future.

  • It's a good option and good idea. Sort of like pulling into port in Sid Meiers Pirates. Fixing your ship has a cost. If they ever add sail damage then this will definitely become a thing.

  • @ii-pin3appl3-ii
I would like the addition of the full repair. However, I do also agree that the more gnarly your ship is the more intimidating it is. However, I still would like that full repair option in the game.

  • @commandwolfyt on the note of ships being super damaged. It would also be cool it ships could really start to be messed up over time. Like maybe after a while lanterns start to fall off and maybe even the ships compass gets damaged and doesn't always point the right way, also the ships flag could even break off. Something like that could be really cool. I'm not sure if it's doable, but it seems like it something people like the idea of.

  • @ii-pin3appl3-ii
I like the idea but I think that would be better from an aesthetic standpoint. I like the design of the Flying Dutchman in Pirates of the Caribean. How it was covered in seaweed and it kind of is falling apart.

  • @commandwolfyt agreed, if they had a ghost ship set, Ferry of the Damned set, or skeleton ship set that could add in a lot of those damaged features.

  • There is a way called "scuttle", as I have been told

  • I'd like to be able to shoot holes into an enemy ship's sails and have it actually affect speed......instead of having an hour long "cat and mouse" chase. Also, I'd be okay with "repainting" your ship, however, I think its kinda cool having a beat up ship....like a "veteran ship." Think about the intimidation aspect....would you really want to go up against a battle hardened and tested gallion that clearly shows they haven't been sunk yet (cause they have a good crew).....or a fresh pained one that the crew might be on their 4th ship?

  • @ii-pin3appl3-ii They should definitely bring this in. Especially as the holes get bigger and when hit again they go straight to full size.

    I second this, aye aye
