Open chests!!

  • Hi there! Huge fan of the game here. You should implement the mechanic to open chests instead of just selling It. When you get a chest there could be 2 options: Just sell it in an outpost like is happing now. Or open It and get clothes, and other skins and random money. I think this way will be more fun and more "realistic" way to be a pirate in the game. It's just an idea.

  • @overdrive111 we could open it like in the traier

  • @overdrive111 The issue I have with this is that you could dig up a chest, immediately open it and move on. I would never bring them back to an outpost if I could do that because of all the time I'd save bringing the chest to the ship then the outpost and it would be unfair on people who enjoy PvP as suddenly people wouldn't be carrying chests aboard and sinking them would yeild no reward.

It's a neat idea and perhaps it could be implemented well somehow but I honestly don't see it coming soon as I don't think it's a priority

  • I would like to open the chests. We would find gold, skulls, and other valuable items. The contents would still have to be turned in at outposts to collect the gold value and rep rewards. That way the flow of loot to sell and steal is not impacted.

Could add a lock picking mechanic to open common chests. Would be a lot of fun to also find special keys to have to go out and discover special treasure troves. Could have to go to Order of Souls to get cursed chests removed before cashing in.

I think clothing and other items currently available in the shops would not be available. Could add chance to find other items only available in chests like jewelry. These items could be kept or sold to the seaports. Seaposts would act like fences. They would give a set price and then make these items a tradable item amongst players.

Would work well if seaports also purchased items players may not like after purchasing, no longer want, or just want some extra gold. These items could also be made available for a temporary special bargain price before being cycled out through item rotation.

  • @x-crowheart-x ok

  • @closinghare208 doesnt make sense, only gold hoarders have keys to open chests, and even then they just want gold, not giving away clothing, which you earn through leveling up

  • @gutdthebrother1 it does in real life because in the time this game in set in they could

  • I could see this working if the chest had greater value if unopened and sold to the GH. If opened, you are agreeing to contents of much lesser value, but perhaps more practical benefit, like clothing, tools, food, etc.

Think a storage locker being sold at auction, but the buyers don't know what the contents are until after they have paid an agreed upon price.

  • @closinghare208 did... did you just have a stroke..?

  • @finalv3rse said in Open chests!!:

@closinghare208 did... did you just have a stroke..?

    nope @Deckhands

  • That would make the gold hoarders useless. They would be forced to remove them from the game

  • Save for granting cosmetics, I feel like we already have the best of both worlds here. We have various locked up chests we have to sell to the GH, and we have collector chests that we can open and generally contain gold and some trinkets (and then reused to carry/sell more stuff, and finally we can sell that chest when we're done with it). So really, aside from granting cosmetics as suggested, we already have this. If we really needed a chance at cosmetics, it would seem more logical to me to simply at them to the RNG of opening up a collector chest.

The real issue with cosmetics is over time these chests begin to have less value as you unlock more and more of the cosmetic options available. Sooner or later, for you, they will just be another collectors chest that never gives cosmetics as you have them all. This could potentially effect the net value of chests, depending on how it is implemented, as rolls for cosmetics could potentially result in nothing gained (empty slot in the chest when you open it), discrepancy in chest value among crew members (Pirate A has Cosmetic X but Pirate B doesn't, so when Cosmetic X gets drawn Pirate A gets less value than Pirate B from the crews loot found).

So, I don't think chests are the place for cosmetics as it just adds too many weeds to the proverbial garden. With that being the case, we already have what you want via collector chests - you just don't have the option to open ever chest you find.
